Nintendo Event - TONIGHT 10pm

I like what they’re doing here although wouldn’t personally invest into it myself. My only worry would be if this kind of thing spilled over into their ‘main games’, like Mario Kart or Zelda etc.

It’ll likely sell well for them, but I don’t really want the main focus of the Switch to alter after its had such a strong start.

Hopefully this can just run alongside the other more traditional releases in harmony...!

Reckon you'll get this for the kids?

I don’t think so... I’ll show them and see what they say though.

With it being cardboard I just see them breaking it... especially as the “it’s my turn” comes about!

...thinking about it, the youngest would bloody love it.

Only just seen this, and honestly, it was not something that I was expecting. Actually, I don’t think it was something that anyone had been expecting.

That being said, it really does seem like an interesting piece of kit, and I can’t wait to see how it’s supported going forward.

Oh, and I could absolutely see the next Nintendo themed cereal box being a compatible net for this too, so if Nintendo doesn’t already have that planned...they should get in on that promotional tie-in.

A gamified application with dedicated peripherals aimed at young children that will confince them (their parents) to buy a Switch. Just the same way as Wii Fit did with its target audience. Smart strategy as that target audience is the future gaming demographic and is currently very unaware/uninterested regarding Nintendo.

I think we should keep expectations extremely low. It will not be aimed at traditional gamers, or even gamers at all. It will be primarely aimed at (very) young kids. I’m thinking more towards ideas like the Coderpillar, but based on the Switch. Maybe some kindergarten application 1-2-Switch style?

I’m keeping Wii Fit, the vitality sensor and the QoL plans in mind. More out of the box than most other stuff they’ve been releasing these past years.

Ok, I could never’ve come up with what they actualy have showed. But still, I think I was close enough.

Speaking seriously for a moment, there’s a ridiculous amount of potential with Nintendo’s existing IP with Labo.  Mario Maker, Paper Mario, Mario Paint, Animal Crossing (house/furniture maker), Smash Bros (Stage builder, Amiibo diorama builder), Wario Ware DIY, Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmin, Tomodachi Life (it’s already basically a doll house!), Style Boutique...

Speaking of Paper Mario... Need I remind you that all of the environments in Color Splash were actually built with real cardboard before being re-created in-game... I rest my case ;)

I absolutely love the idea but I won't be buying it as I think it is very child oriented.

If my girlfriend's siblings were a bit older (they're 4 and 6) I think this would be amazing but the older one especially is at the age where it would get destroyed within minutes. I think this is probably aimed at ages around 7-8+ as they'll be able to get more involved in the building and would be more careful with it.

HOLY SHIT!! You can tune the fucking piano!! You can even change the types of sounds it makes depending on how you build it!!

Game of the Fucking Year! That’s class! :D

That piano needs to work with the Korg gadget!

All in all a really cool move. I don't see this conflicting with the real franchises. Statements like "Nintendo go back kiddie again" make no sense. PS did it with LittleBigPlanet and the move controllers, XBOX with Kinectimals which both were targeted at a young audience. Nintendo does the same, only better and they show some real creativity here.

However, I think we will see a lot of fan creations of Gundam suits, Animal Crossing houses and Mario Karts being made from these kits!
