Raining_again Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 (edited) jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez either braces have got expensive or i got a bargain. I had the full kaput, top bottom (no teeth removed), ceramic braces, perm retainers (some of them are still left lol) for 1250 gbp. My sister worked in the orthodontist involved though. you're in for a helllllish ride if they use the most solid wire at the end... i felt like pulling my teeth out by the end of it... but here we are 5 years later and im still using my retainers and my teeth haven't moved a mm. I missed corn on the cob the most. Avoid hard taco shells lol (pinged my wire off twice with them) The wax is helpful (the stuff you ball up and put over wires/bits that are creating ulcers I really didn't like the private ceramic retainers.... they just ended up stained and made me look like i had no braces, but dirty looking teeth instead. When i got my braces off I had several dozen people ask me if I had my teeth whitened lol Edited February 17, 2018 by Raining_again
Ashley Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I tried to bite a tablet earlier (ironically a calcium one) and oh the pain! Guess it's going to be a while before I can bite I tried to use some of that wax earlier but think I put it on wrong? It just kind of melted into my inner mouth. I am already planning to buy and save an easter egg having realised I'd miss that. And hot cross buns! And well basically all food that is soup or mashed potatoes at the moment. Although one bonus is I do get a teeth whitening at the end 😋
Nicktendo Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Majorly pissed off (and a little bit pissed). Was supposed to be coming home for a holiday and I've already had two flights cancelled. I was supposed to fly from Riga to Leeds last night, cancelled. Then I got a bus to Vilnius, Lithuania where I was supposed to fly to Leeds this morning, cancelled. Literally 5 mins after the bus left I got an sms informing me of it. So now I have to fly to Birmingham and almost all the trains to York have been, you guessed it, cancelled. So now I have to stay in Birmingham or get a train to Manchester and lose another day of my holiday. Coming home from Russia, where it's been the better part of -25 for the past couple of weeks and we've had 40 cm of snow, I don't understand how England is so bloody incapable of dealing with it. Reading headlines like "snow BATTERS the UK" really wind me up. It's a few inches of frozen water. The country is so small and the roads are so good (compared to Russia at least) that it's hilarious how inept they seem to be in the face of a bit of bad weather. On buses, hotels and food I most have spent about 100 quid, and Ryanair will be getting the bill. Absolutely absurd that I've had to go through this all because of a couple of inches of snow. Boggles the mind. Thanks for reading my rant. Enjoy the snow.

Thats exactly it. We get this so rarely that people would be complaining if we started putting more money into preparing.
Nicktendo Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Surely major train lines and airports would have some kind of contingency plan though? Instead of just outright cancelling everything left, right and centre. So typical of the UK skimping on stuff which costs a bit of money.

Instead of just outright cancelling everything left, right and centre. So typical of the UK skimping on stuff which costs a bit of money. It saves them a lot more money to cancel everything for a couple of days a year than it does to spend £15 million a year on snow equipment (that £15 million was for a city of 3 million, so scale up or down depending on talking about an airport, or an entire rail network.)
Agent Gibbs Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Leeds Bradford Airport has no contingency plans and politicians are endlessly debating and delaying having a train line connection to it. I'd say can't the airline reroute you to Manchester and then bus/train you to Leeds, but the M62 is a car graveyard right now and due to a single leaf and a snowflake on the lines all trains are forever cancelled due to network rail fears
Nolan Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 If it makes you feel better Michigan gets heavy snow yearly and we’re still shit at dealing with it after 180 years of being a state. Wednesday I used my debit card...today I noticed I no longer had it. Fuck. I think the kid at Jimmy Johns didn’t hand it back. No new pending charges though and I’ve put a hold on it. Still sucks though, and I’m at work and can’t go check if they’ve got it. I’ll just cancel and call it good. 1
MindFreak Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 (edited) After giving birth to a son with a genetic disease, my wife and I was encouraged to talk to a gene specialist to talk about how the the genes are inherited. It seems that I have the disease as well but it's not active for some reason. Therefore, I didn't know that I had it. This means that there is a 50 % chance that our next children will have the disease which is a bit much. The disease is not bad enough to warrant abortion but it's bad enough to possibly influence the life of the holder if it's active. So that sucks. It is possible to get artificial insemination, though, where the cells that have the gene are removed which should lower the risk significantly, but it's still a bit of a bummer all in all. drahkon Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Just got told that I made a big mistake at work last week. It's a little tedious to explain but trust me, it's quite the blunder. A collegue corrected it but there's still the problem that I sent original documents from students to one other student...that other student emailed us and said she knows each one of the others personally and is able to send them their documents...phew; what a conincidence. Speaking of coincidences. One document is a transcript from a very good friend of mine (if you follow the "good stuff thread"...I've talked about her in some of my recent posts). How her transcript was sent to our department (she studies in a different field) is a mystery. Until the whole thing is resolved I'm still a little on edge... Worked there for almost two years now, never made a mistake. But when I make one it's huge Edit: My boss just told me that it's not a big deal. He was surprised that it was me who made the mistake. Now I'm relaxed again Edited March 19, 2018 by drahkon 1 1

Now I'm relaxed again [emoji3]Well we found out this morning that one of my bosses accidentally sent an email full of snarky comments to the customer it was about. Looks like we might have lost that bit of work because of it too, and potentially any future work out of that big car company. So your mistake could have been worse. 3

In a previous job, the owner of the company accidentally sent some nasty fetish porn to the head teachers of 3 different schools. One of our websites ended in .co.uk, with the .com version belonging to a hardcore fetish forum. To set the scene: one section of the forum had the subtitle "The highest smells in the lowest places". We warned them that this mixup could happen, but he didn't listen. A year or two later, it did happen and it was him that did it. It really didn't surprise me when I heard that they went out of business less than a year after I left. Edited March 19, 2018 by Goafer 3

drahkon Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 (edited) Bus drivers will go on strike tomorrow in my town. I don't have a bike/car/anything else, work is about 90 minutes away by foot and taxi is quite expensive...awesome. Just emailed my boss if I can take the day off. I have some overtime hours I could use for that. Really hope he says yes... Edit: Phew, I have tomorrow off. So no stress for me Edited March 20, 2018 by drahkon

drahkon Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 (edited) My godfather, who suffers from dementia, was apparently brought home by the police just now, a good friend of my godparents just told my mom. But now my mom can't reach either my godmother or this good friend and we have no idea what's going on... Edit: He's back home, everything is "fine"...my godfather has suffered from dementia for a long time now but he was always able to go outside, do grocery shopping or something and find back home. This time, however, he wasn't...thank God someone noticed that he was behaving "oddly" and called the police. My godmother is as stubborn as a mule and keeps saying that she doesn't need help taking care of him (they are both in their 80s...). We keep telling her that she should get some assistance. It would be better for both of them... At least the situation from an hour ago is resolved... Edited March 21, 2018 by drahkon
Grazza Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 On approaching the leisure centre today, I witnessed an extremely aggressive man shouting "GET IN THE CAR! GET IN THE CAR!" at a blonde woman. She was crying and very distressed. When he noticed me looking at her, he came towards me and shouted "THINK YOU'RE A F**KING ACTION MAN, DO YOU?" The woman headed towards the spa (which is in an exterior building) and the man backed off. Not having a phone on me at the time, I entered the main building and reported it to staff. They didn't seem very concerned, but I eventually found someone who gave me an incident form to fill in. When I returned home, I phoned 101 and reported it to the police, who weren't interested at all. They said they couldn't do anything as I didn't phone at the time and didn't have the man's car registration number. I explained they would almost definitely be caught on CCTV, but this apparently isn't enough as "We'd have no way of knowing who they are." There are some very aggressive, controlling jerks about. It was a potentially dangerous situation and I'm sure more could have been done to find out who he was. 4

I guess the police wouldn't get involved unless a punch had been thrown or unless somebody had been physically hurt. I do agree that more could and probably should be done, though. You did the right thing by ringing them up though, because then the responsibility is passed on to the police and it's then up to them to choose if they deem it worthy of following up or not.

Unfortunately, it's up to the woman in question whether she wants to put up with this scumbag (she would have had the chance to call the police if she'd wanted, either via her mobile or using the spa's phone). I do feel like a crime's been committed against me, though, and not taken seriously. Surely he's not allowed to shout at strangers and threaten them with physical violence? The way he was approaching me was like he was in some sort of steroid rage. Not that I even got the chance to tell the police I'd been threatened. I began my story and the phone operator interrupted me straight away. It was very clear he just wasn't interested in investigating it. As I say, I'm sure the police and leisure centre could work out exactly who they were if they looked at the CCTV and where they'd been (my guess - the gym), but the police operator said he couldn't do anything unless I told him who they were (or gave the car reg). Which makes me think - among growing calls to outlaw catcalling and wolf-whistling, how are the girls going be able to tell the police who's whistled at them? I'm against street harassment, but think any laws should be gender neutral. Us blokes need as much protection, because this nutter looked like he wanted to knock my block off! 1
Cube Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 On a less serious note. We've had someone staying at our house (me and my normal housemate) temporarily. They're here for six months as a favour. He's been here for just over two weeks.Today, a friend of ours put these on our fridge and bathroom door She didn't say a word while doing it and neither of them have yet to mention it to us. Neither me or my housemate plan on paying any attention to it. 1 1
