Why No General Chit-Chat, Guys?

You know, how should I phrase this, ....to me, contact with the General Discussion guys comes from waiting for their appearance in the CHATROOM!!!!

Seriously people, go on the chat every once in a while, for a small chat about games and what not.

I won't scare you away with lectures about Paper Mario or Little Kíng's Story, I just want to talk about girls' vaginas.

Seriously homies, King's been hinting at this for ages!

Do y'all use it during E3 events etc?.. It'd be awesome :D

Personally, I seek out forums because of the subject matter, and General/Off-Topic boards are just a bonus. So, for example, this generation I'm playing the Wii and DS, so want to discuss what I'm playing with other people who are playing them.

I used to post in General (back at C-E and during the switch to R-E), but then just lost interest in it. Same thing happened with the Creative board. ::shrug:

Speaking of Creative, do you remember those Photoshop competitions, Scoop? They were such a great laugh.

Unfortunately some of the pics are missing now. :(

It's because this is a Nintendo gaming site. It's not weird for people to just want to utilise the forum for that sort of thing.
Exactly. I find the fact that General has way more activity than all of the Nintendo boards combined seriously weird though. :blank:

Fair play if there are people that no longer play games, but still want to stick around to discuss other stuff. But I get the impression there are loads of people that sign up here specifically for the general forum, I mean... what in the hell?

I remember mentioning it back when I was a moderator, also suggesting that the order of the forums should be changed so that the Nintendo sections were at the top. Still think it's a strange layout. :hmm:

Anyway, I don't reckon this situation is going to change as it's been going on for such a long time now. Looks like the N-E forum divide is here to stay. :heh:

I'm with RedShell on the layout.. though part of me thinks adjusting it just somehow wouldn't look right after being the way it is for so long ::shrug:

I really wish the Wii and DS Discussion had as much input as General Chit Chat because I'm here mainly to read views and express opinions on games with people of similar interest and it would be nicer if there were a greater number of people to share their thoughts in this area :hmm:

Having said that, the people that do post in here are, for the most part, worth listening to and I wouldn't want it over-populated by any old riff-raff :heh:

Yeah, my Photobucket is gone now but a lot of the greats still remain. Absolutely hilarious stuff. This should definitely make a return very soon, lots of new talented people around to contribute.

It's a common interest, if someone is posting in the gaming section then it's far easier to have a conversation about it.

You also have to remember that some of us aren't as good at socialising as others, I'd rate myself pretty bad at that. But with the gaming forums everyone is there for the same reason so it's easy, if you get my drift.

Agreed. I like to discuss hobbies rather than chat generally about stuff.

I'm not a big conversationalist in real life but I could talk about games quite happily for ages. Message boards, same goes.

I do think the general part of the forum was more interesting when I first started. Can't quite put my finger on it though.

Redshell is right about the order though. Nintendo should be at top. Everything else down BEELLOOOW!

I would also go as far as having less sections. I lolled when someone suggested taking the media threads outta general though :D

I also think people are WAY more bitchy on the general side of things, so maybe that puts people off? Which is also weird for a gaming forum haha. You'd think mostly the arguments would be about which game is better than which etc? :)

To be fair, I found that when I first posted on the boards there was rather an overlap of members in both! There's a few members I still see in General whose names I often see when I pop into the gaming boards, so I don't think it's fair to say people don't haunt both.

Unless you give me some numbers. Numbers and statistics and then I will believe everything you wish to tell me.

My penis is over 12" in length.

Probability of me lying to you; well over 100%.

Much of gen chit-chat is made up of people from n64/gc era who lost interest with the wii's shift in market focus. I find the wii boards a scary place full of people who will merely scoff at my opinion, so I don't post here. I'm pretty sure the opposite is true for many people!

People use forums for different reasons. We have a forum that offers two grand alternatives for users to peruse -- something that I am proud to be a part of! I do agree that the nintendo element of the forums should come first because this is nintendo-europe! Also, I do not mind if people don't want to use GCC - that's everyone's right to choose not to.

So, uh, yeah. useless post. But in general - if people think there is a way that the boards can be bettered then they should really feel free to PM a blue or a red name - or even just a post in the questions/suggestions threads. We won't bite, and we're always eager to make the forums a better place for you!

Through use of New Posts, I don't know which threads are in which boards. I can't tell which posters only stay in specific areas.

Well I tend to post in both sections but I much prefer it down here. I don't know about the other consoles board, but the Nintendo and Retro ones are more friendly and inviting that the general ones.

For starters, there are less egos down here. People for the most part want to get along but are happy to have an interesting discussion where they don't always agree. Which is a big change from the "I'm going to make my point and not shut up until everyone knows it and no I'll never care about your opinion so don't waste my time writing it" mentality which comes across with certain posters up there.

Here, anyone can jump in on a topic and make a contribution - they could be a day old member or have been here from the beginning. They get brought into the conversation very quickly and their comments will be read with the same level of interest.

Up there, it's not the same. I see posts where members make good points but the get glossed over so the same select group of people can continue to monopolize threads. And then when one of them eventually gets round to making the same comment that was missed previously, they'll get a million thanks for it or people will say how insightful it was.

And don't you dare voice an opinion that goes against one them or you'll get a response that could snap a thesaurus like a twig.

For me, it was never the thread sizes that put me off speaking, it was reading the comments of the more frequent posters. They were far more off putting than anything else.

I make posts in the general thread to try and maintain a somewhat active presence so that when I do have something I want to say, it won't get passed over. I don't have the benefit of having a particular character quirk or being female to automatically get everyone's attention over even the most inane of comments.

I could get my legs cut off and I might generate one reply. If I were someone else, I could sneeze and start a stampede of comments that would lead to a thread rip.

Basically, for me, it's not so much the contents of the threads (though I do prefer to talk about games) that puts me off, it's just that everyone down here is generally a lot nicer - there are a couple of exceptions of course but it's a worthy trade off.
