Guy Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) I currently work as GM support for LEGO Universe, that new MMO you've spotted in bargain bins at your local charity shop. No, I'm kidding. Its doing really awesome and the job is very creative and gratifying. Money-wise, I can survive on the pay and they recently freed me from night shifts so I'm very happy there for now... but there's no way I want to do this forever. What I want to do for a living is draw a webcomic every day and make a living at it. I know I'll never get rich doing that, quite the opposite, but I'd be happy and for me happiness at work is paramount since it's what you spend most of your active life doing. What am I doing to get there? I have a few ideas, mostly half-baked. I've drawn regular strips before, all of which have proven to be awesome learning experiences. I guess more than anything I'm going to keep trying until something hits enough to feel right. Persistence can be almost as good as talent, right? So, moving on from me... - What is your current job? - What is your dream job? - What are you doing to get there? BONUS QUESTION - To break the evil spider's curse, what must you do? Charlie Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 - What is your current job? - What is your dream job? - What are you doing to get there? BONUS QUESTION - To break the evil spider's curse, what must you do? I currently work as a swimming teacher which I love, however, it's not something I could do for the rest of my life as it's impossible to get enough hours to live on properly and I'm studying at University. I would love to run my own company and have it large enough that I could happily live off the profits to a high quality of life and still be able to grow the organisation with the rest of the profits. Currently the website is under construction (http://www.clubglasgow.com - please add it on Facebook, even if you hide it afterwards from your feed!!). However I don't have a lot of time at the moment to input all the data because of exams so I need to figure out how I'm going to do that as the data is the business. To make money I'm going to be selling advertising space to local businesses (there are a number interested already) and also offering these same businesses consultancy on SEO and social media marketing.
The Mad Monkey Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Current job - hospital admin Dream job - Rock Star What I'm doing to get there - in a band with a few mates, doing most of the song writing, going OK, chances of being discovered and getting anywhere pretty close to non-existent though.
drahkon Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I don't have a job right now. I'm at university studying Biology. My dream jobs are air traffic controller and scientist. At the end of the month I'll be in Hamburg for 3 to 5 days. I need to take part in some tests and an interview. Maybe the dream of becoming an air traffic controller will come true then. I'll do my very best so it will.
jayseven Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Current Job Amateur juggler, pro gamer, with quantious drinking experience. Starting two volutary jobs next week(ish), hearing back from two real jobs 'early january'. Dream Job Making money sharing my opinion. Monetise the BISH. Top Secret Project that Costs Lots Of Money. How? Write stuff. Pray. To break the evil spider's curse, what must you do? There probably is stuff to do, but frankly it's quite fun simply 'coasting'.
Goafer Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Current job: Senior Photographic Lab Technician. I edit photos and sometimes get to boss people around. Dream Job: Some sort of photographer. Gig photography looks rad, as does some sort of travel photography. What am I doing to get there: Taking pictures of stuff for practice until I get confident enough to go for it. Currently saving for a lens that is ideal for gig photography (my current setup can be used, but it's not great) and plan to go to more gigs to get photos for my portfolio.
Retro_Link Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) Current Job: Homebase bollocks Dream Job: Pornstar What am I doing to get there: Bow Chicka Wow Wow... (if only) --- But really... Dream Job: F1 Photographer (well actually if we're dreaming it would be an F1 driver or something!) What am I doing to get there: A totally irrelevant degree... I've always struggled knowing what I want to do, and often realisations hit me too late once I'm already down a different path. I'd like to think I can one day make a career out of Photography, even if it's a sideline and have to make my money in a different job that perhaps isn't ideally what I'd LOVE to be doing. ipaul Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Very unpopular right now, my ultimate goal would actually be Prime Minister (Labour) but that seems somewhat unlikely. I suppose apart from being in a kick ass band, I'd just like to be a good teacher who gets to teach nice kids, rather than little shits.
S.C.G Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Current? I work for The Evil Supermarket Chain Overlords Dream? Working for a reputable games company doing something game related and getting paid would be awesome. Doing? Reviewing for N-Europe, though when it comes down to it I actually wonder if I would take a 'greater' paid opportunity if offered it, because yes money for doing gaming stuff = great but I often wonder if being paid for it would then mean I'd start to lose interest/enthusiasm for it, whereas atm I'm writing reviews on a voluntary basis but doing it because I want to. Spider's Curse? Kill it with fire?
tapedeck Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Currently: A Guidance (careers) adviser in a college. Dream Job: Helping individuals through my own learned experiences. (Which is what I do daily)! To get (t)here: I had a load of varied jobs before realising what my main strengths were and what I wanted to do with my life at 25. Having had a LOT of jobs and decided what I wanted, I went to University and now have my 'dream job'. Weird then that I'm not 100% content so I'm now dong my teacher training (but just for something to do). At the moment I'm around 90% content (Social life must improve). Having my dream scenario has only made me want more, different things from life. Perhaps that's the human condition?

Eddage Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I've always struggled knowing what I want to do, and often realisations hit me too late once I'm already down a different path. I am exactly the same, it's like we're related or something... Current Job: layabout Dream Job: Graphic Designer What I'm Doing: Have applied for a foundation degree in Graphic Design, which will start in September if I get on the course.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Currently I'm a substitute teacher as well as an uneducated teacher for a small group of English students who need extra help. The dream is to become a teacher at a gymnasium, a Danish upper secondary school, or possibly even at university. It'd be lovely to be able to do academic research work on the side, but we'll just see about that. To get there I'll begin studying at university this summer. To break the evil spider's curse you need the Amulet of Arachne.
Ryuk Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) I currently am unemployed, at this present in time I'd accapt any kind of job being it desk related or sales assistant etc, My dream job varies I am a qualified graphic/web designer with a national diploma and foundation degree under my belt, however Its very difficult to get a job in that field, they wanr x amount of years of cermcical experiance i'm stuck in that catch 22 thing.. (you need a job but they wont emlopy you because you don't have proper experiance.) That said I would like to go back to college and do a business course and open up a gaming cyber cafe simler to the Omega Sektor birmingham had a few years ago. Edited January 9, 2011 by Ryuk
Will Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Current Job: I'm an Analyst for SEGA. Basically I work on reporting back to the company how overall industry trends are going, how our games are doing within that and attempt to make some suggestion as to what direction the company should move in in the future. I've just moved to San Francisco via an internal transfer which has been amazing, mostly from a general life point of view. I really enjoy it most of the time and if I keep progressing within the company I'd be fairly contented with how things have gone for me. Dream Job: Car racing, preferably F1. To get there: I want to fulfill my other ambition of running my own startup, building the business into something highly profitable/popular and then sell it on to someone bigger to make my fortune. I've had a few ideas in the past and came pretty close to running something but it didn't quite work out. At the moment I need to think up my next good idea and see where I can take things.
Retro_Link Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Dream Job: Car racing' date=' preferably F1.[/quote']Some day (when I have money to afford racing) we should totally enter a team for a 24hr race at Silverstone or something, like the one they participated in on Top Gear that time.
ReZourceman Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Current Job ; Customer Service and operations (?????) Shwarzkopf. Which I havn't started yet. Dream Job ; Comic book writer. What am I doing ; Writing, designing, drawing, etc. Guy, wanna draw a comic I write?
Nintendohnut Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Current Job: Staff writer at a Apple/Mac/iPhone etc magazine Dream Job: Editor of a magazine, like GamesTM (which is in the same office as me) or even iCreate where I work now. How? Well, I started at iCreate last week, so I reckon I should just focus on doing well at this first, then move up through the company. Evil Spider's Curse Wait... there's a spider?

What's san fransisco like to live in? I have a vague ambition to move to the states post uni, I went to San Fransisco briefly a few years ago and it might be my city of choice. How's the weather ect also? Currently: poor unemplyed student, doing an english degree that I don't enjoy and am average at at best. Dream Job: Sitcom writer or something. Or, more realistically, yet much more unrelated to my english degree, an illustrator. How?: Doing unpaid illustrations for local publications, websites ect. Which is going along quite nicely. Dunno how much money there is in it though, if any.

Fierce_LiNk Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Current Job: Working as a Primary School teacher. Teaching 7 year olds at an independent school, which is a bit odd as I went to...slightly more rougher schools when I was in school and for placements. Dream Job: Well, this is it. I went to Uni because I wanted to do this, and now I'm doing it. What are you doing to get there? You work bluddy hard and take any opportunities that come your way. Stick at it and eventually the rewards will come. If I wasn't a teacher, I would love to be an author. Preferably of Science Fiction. Or erotica!
