jayseven Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 .. Surprised it's not been commented on! Video after the jump; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11510513 Aired last sunday in teh US and on the coming 21st in the UK. The most morbid thing ever seen on a simpsons episode? Surely so. There's a pub in brighton with a Banksy piece! [/sidenote]
Ashley Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Last Sunday as in....yesterday? Anyway I did comment on it...on facebook! :p
Platty Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Woah, that's a bit controversial isn't it? Loved it though.
EEVILMURRAY Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 That's just too depressing to be anywhere near humourous.
Cube Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 It seems like something that would appear in Family Guy at least five times per episode.
mcj metroid Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 It seems like something that would appear in Family Guy at least five times per episode. tell me about it... but ya i'm not exactly sure what they are going for with this.
Serebii Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 tell me about it... but ya i'm not exactly sure what they are going for with this. Clearly, Banksy is using it as satire for how the workforce is in the east.
ReZourceman Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Saw this live in the U.S. (/feels superior)
Arnieboy Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) Wow, morbid but true, have a heart for the poor chained up unicorn. I'm guessing this won't be shown in China. (If The Simpsons is shown in China at all, i haven't a clue). Edit: Forgot to mention i actually liked that intro. Edited October 12, 2010 by Arnieboy Forgot to mention:
ipaul Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I was just a bit indifferent to it. Vaguely interesting, perhaps it would have been better if I hadn't known what I was about to watch.
LostOverThere Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I thought it was brilliantly satirical. As someone on YouTube mentioned, it's been a while since The Simpsons has been controversial.
Serebii Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Simpsons has been getting better the past few years. Closer to their prime than they have been for quite a while
Shorty Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Wow, morbid but true, have a heart for the poor chained up unicorn. I'm guessing this won't be shown in China. (If The Simpsons is shown in China at all, i haven't a clue). Just a little big picky here, but that was a Korean sweatshop.
Pancake Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I liked it. Don't get why the animation dept threatened to walk out over it. Or why it questionably breached broadcasting standards. I bet a lot of people 'outraged' by this Simpsons intro, are indifferent to actual sweatshops/buy products made in sweatshops.
Jonnas Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 That intro was disturbing. Not particularly funny, though. Not to say that it's bad, I just think it's a statement, and a solid one at that. Like Cube said, Family Guy does this frequently, but they're not making a statement or trying to be insightful or thought-provoking, they're just trying to show disturbing and/or controversial imagery for the sake of disgust and controversy, as that is the only thing keeping them afloat. You can tell that even if it said imagery strikes a nerve with some people, the producers never meant any of that. I don't have that opinion with the Simpsons (especially a scene made by an outside party), so I think it's a good thing this was aired. It actually did its purpose. Good job, I say.
MoogleViper Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I liked it. Don't get why the animation dept threatened to walk out over it. Because it was revealed that they outsource a lot of their animation to Korea. That's what the intro is about.
Noodleman Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/arts-%26-entertainment/banksy-simpson-credits-force-the-man-to-surrender-201010123155/
Pancake Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Because it was revealed that they outsource a lot of their animation to Korea. That's what the intro is about. Oh ok. It's quite ridiculous they do that then, with the sort of profit they make.
Arnieboy Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Just a little big picky here, but that was a Korean sweatshop. As i said, i'm clueless
Raining_again Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I don't get the hype.... I mean isn't the Simpsons all about slagging off the "American way" with all their jokes and whatnot.. the minute it gets into something serious, or "against" someone else its like.... O___o Cheel. Its a cartoon.. "No humans harmed in the making..." etc
MoogleViper Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Cheel. Its a cartoon.. "No humans harmed in the making..." etc But he's depicting some humans being harmed during the making. Unless you don't count Koreans as humans.
