Rummy Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) Note: This needs to be a collective and collaborative effort. I mention this because...well, because people don't seem to realise. It's not all going to be just down to me, or jay, or a select handful of people. There's no limits and constrictions upon things, it's all optional, really. Boring thread title, too late for epicness. Basically...people keep mentioning this mofo, but no one's doing anything about it! So here I am, doing things! Me Jay and ReZ decided that regardless of you guys, we're gonna have us a meetup in the summer, in londinium. You're all welcome to join us however, and so this thread is here. Basically, ideas, contributions, wants, needs, to make this an epic meetup that is awesome for everyone, because they're all getting a little bit of what they want. Below is the Plan as it stands, it's totally up for change. In fact, it only came about in my head about 7 minutes ago. With it being a weekend thing. Basically this is for anyone coming from afar(or aclose) who wants to actually stay longer. The Saturday(18th, currently) is going to be an epic london meetup day, for which anyone who's coming from aclose or just for a day can attend. I'm going to try and get hostel info and that, however, I will not be booking or helping book them, it'll be upto people who are coming to sort that out. I won't be for the sheer fact I have no need of hostels, at worst I just come back home, sorry. For those of you coming from afar and unsure, or who've never really seen London and that, there's nothing to stop you guys all having a day extra or so, or maybe using your sunday, to all go sightseeing together! I know Eenuh would like to, and I think it'd be really nice for a little collection of N-Eers to go round being cultured! I dunno if I'd attend that, again, as I've done most of it before, but who knows. Attendence updates! Clarify if you're a maybe and want to be a more certain, or any other changes. There's alot of yes/sorta yeses, but they're vague I didn't want to assume to much. I've taken people who've been and proved reliable before(well, I only went to two meets, I judge by those) at their words as well as those who've expressed it quite clearly and plainly! It'd be most excellent if you could move yourself from maybes to more certain lists or so, you can always change again at a later date. The Attendees: Yes/Very Likely Rumdumcious Beer Twozzok ReZ Cider Dyson jayseven Retro_Link thirtynine. The Bard Letty Bluey(and Jamba!) ShadowV7 (depends if you're in london then?) Dannyboy-the-Dane (due to danishness and distanceness of said danishness) How to get there! Here are two maps. The first shows Hyde Park from a bit of a zoom, so you can see Tube Stations and the lines they're on. For people who might need to know; Piccadilly line. Victoria Line. Central Line. Circle and District Line. Bakerloo Line. Jubilee Line. A little more zoomed in, with the rendezvous spot circled. As you can see, I'd suggest going to Knightsbridge or Lancaster Gate tube stations in order to get to the location easiest. We shall meet at 12.00pm, in the middle of Hyde Park. The Plan: 1. Epic Weekend N-E Meetup, London. Friday 17th July-Sunday 19th July. Negotiable dates. Want it to be July though, and ideally that weekend. 2. Us, Parks, Hyde Park, Grass near London Eye, ReZ, Trees, Ridiculousness, Fun, DRINK, Jay, Penises(ReZ). Most importantly, more fun. 3. Specifically, the Saturday, for an epic day chillout/funtimes. 4. This is where the plan currently stops. *NEWNESS* 5. The meetup day is the Saturday, 18th July at 12.00pm. My plan for that day is to meet, sit, chat, chill and optionally drink in an open green area. Green area suggestions welcome, but currently probably Hyde Park(for ease of meetage due to local tubes) and maybe waterfront next to london eye like. If anyone wishes to go gaming at Trocadero or whatever, feel free! I shall not, I shall be doing the socialising on the grass sort of thing. I may bring my DS, though. Bring drink if you wish to drink! 6. Friday and Sunday is for people who wish to come and chill and do their own thing, those plans are up to you guys to decide, though. I'll try and attend and help people out with london if they need(tho i suck lol) but I can't guarantee. Hell, it doesn't even have to just be Friday and Sunday! Whenever you guys like! 7. Accomodation, you'll need to try and organise this amongst yourselves as I mentioned(and you are already, it's coming together!) as I will not require any and probs therefore won't book any. See below for some links, all courtesy of j7 hisself; Last year's meetup thread! This is a good starter page to find cheap london accomodation. Where J7 wanted to book last year, 100 metres from Hyde Park and potentially as little as a tenner per night with enough people This is a very shit start to a meetup thread, that's because it's nearly 4 and I'm quite tired, I have a compulsion to stay up though. You know what can and will make this thread better though? You! So, get posting, get contributing, anything and everything. Jay and ReZ, you've gotta help me out with this shiz too, so get in here!! The fish Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 As long as it's not 10th July (as much as I love you folks, my birthday requires me to be elsewhere), I'm happy.
Twozzok Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Can we have one during the term time aswell sometime?
LazyBoy Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Get me a date and if i'm in the country i'll be there.
Nolan Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 As long as it's not 10th July (as much as I love you folks, my birthday requires me to be elsewhere), I'm happy. Hey, high five. July 6th here. If I somehow make mucho money, and make it to London within the next 6 months. I'll squeeze it in between some site seeing.
Paj! Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 While they sound funny, I hate London (being so far away).
ReZourceman Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 While they sound funny, I hate London (being so far away). Come for a laugh. Dates sound good to me. I'll get my thinking cap on for more help with this thread. *Walks off*
Ganepark32 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Sounds like a plan. Will need to look into financing a trip down. Don't know how I'll do it but I'll work something out. Haven't been to London so not sure how I'll do it. Would probably have to get a hotel somewhere in the city which'll be a pain in the arse. But I'll look into it. Seeing as I'll have like a 4 month hiatus from Uni for the Summer and I probably won't be going anywhere, I might as well look into trying to come to this.
nightwolf Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Unless people plan on coming from abroad, like eenuh, then ideally it should be mid ground for those who might want to venture from scotland. The meets have never ventured further north than the midlands. Even so, sounds like a plan.
Ashley Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 There was one in Sheffield. I'd class that as "north" :p I don't know what the hell im doing during the summer. Hoping to be abroad. But shall holla once I know.
Pookiablo Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 There was one in Sheffield. I'd class that as "north" :p I don't know what the hell im doing during the summer. Hoping to be abroad. But shall holla once I know. Yeah make it in the south, you northerners get to bum each other on enough occasions as it is!
Eenuh Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 London would be easiest for me yes, heh. I hope I can come to this, if I can get enough money together for then. Though I do know a week earlier would be better for me, probably. Anyway, can't check Eurostar tickets yet, at least not until March or something. =P
Aimless Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I have absolutely no idea what I'll be doing in July, but that caveat aside I can provisionally sign up.

Jimbob Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 London could prove tricky for myself, we could try in the middle somewhere if that is possible.
Jav_NE Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I'll be in Thailand / Cambodia by then. If all goes to plan.
jayseven Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I'll try my best to attend, wherever and whenever it is. I would suggest that people realise you don't have to have only one meet-up arranged at a time, and also there's no point whining about the location being unfair when there is nothing stopping you from arranging a meet-up in whatever preferred location you wish. Ganepark; last year we stayed in a hostel for two nights (six of us the first night, 8 the second) which costed about £25 a night. It was a short walk from King's Cross/St Pancras stations, and I'd be willing to stay there again (despite a couple of annoying moments!). Rummy! I suggest picking a day (the saturday?) for epic meeting up in the park so that day-trippers can join in the smelly fun. What we missed out last time was the chance to properly 'game', but I don't see any easy way around that :/
nightwolf Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 London could prove tricky for myself, we could try in the middle somewhere if that is possible. Ideally let's have a choice of london, which makes it easier for eenuh etc to get to. Plus a ''middle'' area, to choose from. Right now it's london or london. Makes sense? I remember people were talking about manchester or liverpool at some point. Unless people want it more northern than that? edit: Could always see about somebody bringing a wii to london/wherever it happens to be Jay? I'd be happy to bring my wii with me if anybody was ok to bring wiimotes. Specially if somebody stays in a hotel..specifically with a tv :P
jayseven Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 As I said, I reckon people can organise two meets :P Could be the same period of time, could be a different one. If london is 'only' for the southerners then why don't the northerners arrange to go to manchester, or leeds, or liverpool, or sheffield, or birmingham, or newcastle, or what! But! Gaming in london would depend on where we stay -- the hostel we were in, and most of them I imagine, didn't have TVs in the rooms, so one of those would have to be brought too!

Well I'm planning on going the London one, as I missed it last time. I've just decided to be a pain in the arse to help with others who can't make it! Depending on the place I could bring it, it's easy to carry and I'm sure brawl would go down well.
Jav_NE Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Someone must live in london surely?! Cant you just go round to their house. Have a house party or something. You always go to the park and that which im sure is great, but you should rip it up at night at someones pad with some Rock Band and stuff.
Eenuh Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Oooooh, I'd be up for some gaming! If not on the Wii, at least we could all bring our DS and play some games on that. =) I just checked flight prices with Ryanair (which wouldn't be easy to fly with as I have to drive to the Netherlands to get my flight) and it would be around €90 (return flight). But prices will change. I imagine Eurostar will be around the same price, maybe a bit more expensive. Guess I'll have to start saving up, haha.
