  1. New Super Mario Bros 2

I ordered from GAME and it got shipped yesterday lunchtime! Hopefully it turns up today Or tomorrow will do nicely.
  2. Car Boot Bargains!

Ah, CEX or Gamestation can help with disc cleaning woes! Although, may not be worth it from a cost perspective!
  3. Is it quiet in here? Or is it just me?

I agree with what @Ville said about tournaments. I really got into the whole Brawl tourney when it first came out (even though I got caned) and the level of organisation was impressive. I don't have a forum on my own site, nor do I have the great community that n-europe has (unfortunately, my traffic is mostly those passing through) so it's a shame that more isn't done to promote the community here - e.g., tournaments and prizes! I've only recently started returning here because I wanted to play Nintendo games online again and @lostmario's MK7 league is the best one around. The stats, the organisation, the themes - all brilliant! Especially because it's got some great, positive members such as @RedShell taking part and helping to promote the fun nature of it all. This site/forum should really capitalise on that in my view! It creates shared stories through gaming, thus promoting discussion, and people love winning, especially where prizes are concerned. Hell, I'd happily sponsor a prize here and there. That or steal @lostmario for my own wicked needs (yes, read that as dirty!). As for the general side of things - I've voiced my complaints in the past, so I won't badger on but I can see why some newcomers might be put off - it feels (perhaps inadvertently) quite exclusive because the most established members are all quite close and there's a lot of long-running in-jokes, talking about stuff most people haven't the foggiest about. That can't be helped, but then most Nintendo fans don't join a forum to talk general, they want to talk Nintendo. If that side of things were given a boost, it may encourage people to switch between the two more regularly. Lastly, in my own experience, there is a slight downturn in Nintendo news, but certainly more than enough for people to be talking about. Tons of sites such as MyNintendoNews are bustling with comments on their news stories every day! Also, @Ville - we need to get our Brawl on, muthatrucka! I owe you a few KOs...
  4. 3DS XL

I don't think the yellow tinge is really that big a deal. Sure, it's noticeable on the menu screens but most games still look great. I'm really impressed with original DS games on it, too - Pokémon Conquest looks surprisingly good.
  5. 3DS XL

Ordered mine from Amazon and it hasn't even been dispatched yet! Hope it arrives tomorrow as I was led to believe!
  6. 3DS XL

    Seriously!?! That's fucking balls!
  7. 3DS XL

I don't live as close! Even if Reading is only down the road... Don't judge me!
  8. 3DS XL

I also went with red! Pre-order it earlier today. I actually have a Silver XL in my flat atm (got a review system on loan from Nintendo) and that was my least favourite before and it's still my least favourite now. It just looks so dull. Either way, if you're upgrading and you haven't tried it yet, you're in for a treat. It's superb. Looking forward to hopefully winning my first ever GP in the MK7 league on it, too! My full review is here with images for anyone interested: http://bnbgaming.com/2012/07/22/hardware-review-nintendo-3ds-xl/
  9. The Best Gaming Music Ever.

Journey to Silius on NES. Has some of the greatest music I've ever heard. Audio
  10. Mario Tennis Open

This is an incredibly disappointing game. I bought this expecting to be returned to the glory days of Mario Tennis for the N64. Insane, tight rallies where forcing your opponent(s) into an opening won you the point. Instead, it's exactly what most of the fine folk here are saying. A chance shot pops up on nearly every hit and some of them are just plain ridiculous to counter. Offline it's somewhat manageable but online, it's an absolute joke. Each match isn't even about playing skilfully, it's just a case of hitting the right button (or X seeing as that completely defies the point of pressing anything else) and forcing the ball past your opponent with some lame, cheap shot. Not to mention that the non-friends online mode is possibly the biggest joke I've ever come across in a video game. Two match settings, the first being a lame tie-breaker? No doubles? Not even the slightest amount of match-customisation unless you just so happen to con 1-3 other friends into buying this. Good luck with your new and improved online network, Nintendo, because if this is the best that you can do, you're completely fucked. (On the plus side, Super Mario Tennis is rather fun and addictive).
  11. Because I didn't have anything better to do. Post with over 180 screenshots of the game, some new, some old! http://bnbgaming.com/2011/11/03/comprehensive-zelda-skyward-sword-screenshot-gallery/
  12. Hey guys, I wrote this article for Bits 'n' Bytes Gaming earlier and thought it may be of interest to you guys. Article Do you think Nintendo should develop for iOS devices? My article comes after I read earlier today that some investors are demanding that Nintendo begin to develop games for iPhone. It seems a little absurd, but I thought I should at least explore the notion and weigh up the pros and cons. Have a read and I'm hoping you guys can form something of a discussion from this. I also advise that you do this rather quickly - if Ashley sees me using his forum space he may get angry and beat me the next time we meet at a press event! :P Cheers!
  13. Should Nintendo Develop for iOS Devices?

Modern Combat 2: Dark Pegasus (the prequel) - 8.5/10 from IGN - 9/10 from Pocket Gamer - 4/4 (I think?) from Slide to Play: "Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus provides top notch modern warfare on the go, with a lengthy campaign and a deeply addictive multiplayer mode". All the reviews say that the game plays well, especially in the control department. And I'd go on record and say that N.O.V.A 2 is a pretty decent game, 9mm plays very well bar its terrible story/setting and Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard is better than anything on 3DS, except for OoT. This is my opinion only of course. Having read the last few posts and realising that there are people in this thread that still know absolutely nothing about what they're talking about and are just making up facts, I went and viewed the credits for Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus on my iPad and, amazingly, I counted 179 different names of people involved in its production. Hardly sounds like a small development team now does it? I've no problem with people dismissing mobile gaming if they don't actually like it, but as I said above, most people have such a limited general knowledge of the subject that they really shouldn't be claiming or saying some of the things that they are.
  14. Southpaw Gaming

I'm a lefty but I've always played right-handed for some reason. Guessing it's something to do with the way I learned games. Would playing southpaw be more beneficial to me though or is it more of a preference thing?
  15. Should Nintendo Develop for iOS Devices?

Gameloft's Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation Callum Rowley for Gameloft states: "Featuring a brand new story campaign spanning 13 missions, which sees players fighting an apocalyptic battle for the U.S.’ freedom, a frantic multiplayer mode with 12 players (across 6 maps and 6 different modes w/ 90 experience ranks to earn) and brand new weapons, modifications and attachments – Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation promises to be the most intense first-person shooter on the App Store to date". I saw this trailer for an upcoming iOS game yesterday and it reminded me of the above quote. While I get what you're saying Burny (although I do think it's just an overly complex way of saying exactly the same thing I had said a post before), I think iOS/Android developers are definitely trying to aim for that same scope you're talking about. Gameloft have been trying it for some time now and in some ways they've succeeded. Their only problem is that they keep blatently ripping home console titles off, but at least they're aiming to provide as near an experience to it as possible. Oh, and the above game will retail for £4.99. As someone who has (for the purpose of my website) invested a lot of time and money in smartphone/tablet gaming, the impression I get is that a lot of gamers only have a limited knowledge of mobile gaming (that goes little beyond Angry Birds) but yet they seem very against it. There are a lot of top efforts out there, and much like with the Wii, you just have to sift through a lot of shovel/shitware to find it. In short, if Gameloft can pump something like this out for only £4.99, how can Nintendo justify charging 7 times as much for something like Pilotwings or Nintendogs? It's madness.
  16. Should Nintendo Develop for iOS Devices?

I think you need to look at it from a slightly different perspective. In the statement above you're equating cost to the length of a game, which is most certainly not the best way to look at it. It's difficult to quantify it specifically like you say, but I'd compare it with how much fun I get out of the game. Mercenaries 3D, for example, as fun as it was, wasn't fun enough for me to justify the £35 I paid for it. On the other hand, Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard on iPad was only £4.99 and I had an absolute blast with it. The production values, gameplay, etc. were in my view far superior to that of Mercenaries (ironically, it was also longer too). Therefore, my original point was for £4.99, I had way more fun with RS than I did with Mercs 3D, which cost me 7 times more and my experience with Mercs 3D wasn't worth that. However, comparing Ocarina with RS, I'd still say Ocarina is too much money (because it is just an updated port after all), but it was somewhat more justifiable to spend more money on it (which is a lie because I actually got given a free review copy, but I'm making a point, damnit!).
  17. Should Nintendo Develop for iOS Devices?

There are a fair few decent experiences to be had on iOS. Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard is one of the best example. Also, 9mm, Sid Meier's Pirates, Dead Space, GTA: Chinatown Wars, and Osmos are all pretty good games. And the best thing is that they cost a fraction of the price. I'll agree to some extent that Nintendo offer proper controls (although a second stick would be more beneficial) but there isn't always the depth and substance. Something like Nintendogs and even Pilotwings (minus the 3D) would be perfectly suited to iOS devices and neither deserves the ridiculous price tag of £30-£35. In short, I suppose I'm not disagreeing as I do see the same distinction that you make. Nintendo do make more quality experiences than anyone else. It's more than Nintendo are charging far too much money for an experience that isn't worth 6 or 7 times the cost of an iOS game (with the major exception of OoT: 3D). Of course, maybe my viewpoint will change somewhat when Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land release!
  18. Hey guys, Let me first apologise, as all I ever seem to come here for nowadays for is to bang on about my website. Basically, I am looking for another writer to help me cover all things Nintendo at Bits 'n' Bytes Gaming. I am struggling to keep up with reporting everything at the moment. I initially thought of asking here, because, well, this is a Nintendo forum! Bits 'n' Bytes Gaming launched back in October 2010 and has grown at a phenomenal rate since then. We currently average around 35,000 to 40,000 visitors a month and have managed to gain a fair bit of recognition in the industry (Ashley can vouch for my appearance at the Zelda 3D preview evening...even if I was one of the cocktail waiter...) It's still early days and we're currently coming towards the end of our 1 year trial period. After this, the plan is to massively upgrade the site and really push for greater recognition and success in the field. Therefore, I need someone that fits the following criteria. Firstly (and most obviously), I need someone who has good writing skills (no qualifications required) that can adhere to our style guide and write in an engaging manner. I also need someone who can cover Nintendo news on a daily basis and write their own features/editorials. At BnBGaming we love opinion pieces and so give the writer the platform to share their own ideas with the gaming community. Furthermore, we run regular features and editorials such as the Friday Roundtable discussion, The Top 5, PodBytes (our podcast show), and many more. I would need someone who would be interested in contributing to these on a regular basis. Lastly, the person that joins (should someone pity me enough to join) must be enthusiastic and committed. BnBGaming is a lot of work for me, but the personal rewards and seeing the site grow are really worthwhile aspects. So if you're interested, check out the site http://bnbgaming.com and then send me an email to [email protected], telling me a bit more about yourself. I would prefer if you were based in the UK as then you would be able to attend press events, etc. with me. Otherwise, I hope everyone is well. I do check back here now and again and can i personally thank whoever put that link in the funny stuff thread to the dating site thing where that person sketched really harsh pictures of the women on there - I was actually in tears of laughter when I saw it. Thanks!
  19. BnBGaming is looking for a Nintendo writer

I loved the CoE review. It is unfortunately by a guest writer who I can't convince to join the site (he very honestly admitted that he's too lazy for that sort of thing) which is a great shame because he is an incredibly talented writer. I'm liking the positive feedback so far, have a think about it and come back to me. I do actually really need someone in the UK to cover Microsoft news.
  20. BnBGaming is looking for a Nintendo writer

Come to think of it, yes! Although given your credentials I fear you may find us too amateurish!
  21. Wii Play: Motion

Sorry, I should have clarified in my earlier post - it wasn't a deal that I got on it, just got it at a discount from work combined with this reward scheme we have. Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up there! As for the Instant Replay series, there aren't any more episodes at the moment but more are planned/being produced soon. So please stay tuned!
  22. Wii Play: Motion

http://bnbgaming.com/2011/06/25/review-wii-play-motion/ That's the review. We don't use a traditional scoring system, and rather we have two top awards. Wii Play Motion didn't receive either of our two awards, but if I were to go by traditional scoring systems, I'd say it's probably a 6 or 7 - the inclusion of the Wii Remote Plus obscures thing a bit.
  23. Wii Play: Motion

So I picked this up today to do a review on it for the site (I got it for £11 so can't really complain). First impressions are that it isn't as bad as the trailer makes it look. It's by no means going to bowl you over, but it's certainly a nice addition to your library of party games with drunken friends. Can post a link later if anyone is interested (which I somewhat doubt).
  24. Super Smash Bros. 3DS / Wii U

My main concern here is the online multiplayer. It was just so poorly implemented in Brawl. I liked how Sakurai stood by his guns for not making the game overly competitive, but it would be nice to see a fleshed out online service for the game!
