Had my first go on a PS4 today,

 

Went into Smyths Toystore to pick up Xmas gifts for the son and spotted they had a demo pod (surprised Gamestop doesn't have one).

 

The controller felt better than I expected, was never a fan of PS, PS2 and PS3 controllers TBH, which is why I was disappointed to see Sony keep the same general shape, but in the hand it actually felt very comfy. Smaller than I thought it would be too, looked bigger in pictures (prolly due to the touchpad), in contrast the console itself was a bit bigger than I thought it would be, looks smaller in pics/videos But of course not as big as an Xbox One which had a demo pod beside it, that thing is even bigger in person!.... no controllers on that though so couldn't try it (unless I was meant to use Kinect?)

 

 

Overall I don't think the demo pod for the PS4 does it any justice, I was going through the menu and it was just all videos about the console, the controller and stuff, took me awhile to find the games (had to press "down" *facepalm*) and found a lot of game boxarts staring at me and thought WOOT, went into Battlefield 4....no demo...screens and video only....tried Killzone next.....no demo.... Watch Dogs.....no demo.... Destiny....no demo....AC4:Black Flag...no demo

 

There were a few other games, can;t remember which, that all had no demo to play just screens and video to watch. Only Knack and FIFA had playable demos, didn't bother with FIFA, tried Knack and TBH, meh.

 

 

DEfinately a nice piece of kit though, I'm sure someone I know will have one by end of year so I can get a hands on with it properly

PS4 1.51 Update Available To Download Ahead Of Launch

 

The PS4's 1.51 system update is available to download ahead of the PS4's European launch.

 

Sony has announced, via Twitter, that the PS4's 1.51 system update will be available to download ahead of the PS4's UK and European launch on 29 November.

 

Sony has said that the update should be up around lunchtime on Thursday 28 November.

 

The 1.51 system update will be available to download on the PlayStation EU site, allowing users to download the update and put it on a USB drive ahead of launch.

 

The 1.51 system can then be installed on the PS4 using the USB, the idea presumably being that potential problems with busy PSN servers can be avoided on launch day.

 

The update is already available in the US, but Sony recommends that PS4 owners download the update intended for their region.

 

Update 1.51 will improve system stability and will also add a host of key features that were included in the 1.50 update in the US.

 

This includes the PS4's remote play functionality and the ability to share and broadcast gameplay online.

 

You might still get a PS4 on launch day!

 

155 Asda stores will have PS4 stock at launch

 

Customers without pre-orders will be able to buy the console while supplies last

 

155 Asda stores will have PS4 stock at launch for UK consumers who haven't pre-ordered the console.

 

The console will be available on a first come first served basis while supplies last, with each customer limited to one PS4.



Asda will be selling PS4 standalone for £349 machine, with Knack for £379, and with Call of Duty Ghosts for £385.

 

142 of the 155 Asda stores listed below (via MCV) will be opening their doors at midnight on Thursday.

 

PS4 launched in North America on November 15 ahead of this Friday's European and Latin American PS4 release date of November 29.

PlayStation app out in Europe

The PlayStation app is live and ready to download in Europe, after making a fashionably late entrance in line with the fashionably late PS4. The console arrives in a few days time on November 29, some two weeks after hitting North America.

 

Still, it could be worse - couldn't it, Japan?

 

 

To recap for our Euro-pals, the iOS and Android companion lets you access the PlayStation Network to chat with friends, compare trophies, purchase stuff on the store, access system guides, and a fair bit more besides. It also syncs up with the PS4 in various ways, including as an on-screen keyboard,and by offering the same Second Screen functionality (note: not Remote Play) that the Vita provides with certain PS4 games.

I popped in Game today for the first time in months and there it was the PS4 demo station....I was strong, I resisted and left without touching it. I've waited this long so I can wait a couple more days.

I just assumed you were being serious, you've been oddly negative on the PS4 for a couple of months now.

I think I've been pretty level-headed.... It only looks negative in comparison to some of the overly optimistic outlook everyone else has. I play devil's advocate against completely baseless hopes like "Knack looks amazing!" or "We'll be able to stream our PS3 game at launch using Gaikai"

 

My opinion of the PS4 since it was announced has basically been "I'm definitely getting one, as soon as it has a few games to make it worth it".

London PS4 queue starts, as gamers brace the cold to be first

 

 

A queue has already started forming outside of the PS4 Lounge in Covent Garden, London, as keen gamers who've failed to bag a pre-order hope to get the PlayStation 4 when it launches on Friday.

 

Those intrepid or stupid gamers, depending on how you see it, are braving cold November nights, where temperatures will drop to around 4 degrees Celsius to get their hands on the console that's already seen an explosive launch in the US, selling 1 million units in 24 hours.

 

The need to fall "in-line" makes sense, as the chance to order a PlayStation 4 has pretty much ended from most retailers in the UK, partly thanks to huge demand and short supply.

 

Sony has already confirmed to Pocket-lint that their will be "hundreds of PlayStation 4 consoles and a selection of games available to purchase on the night" for late comers.

 

A temporary home, the PS4 Lounge will be open until 1 December at 17 Bedford Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9HE allowing gamers to try before they buy as well as play "players" i.e celebrities.

 

The PlayStation 4 officially launches on the 29 November in the UK. The official queue doesn't open until Thursday, where those customers will be given a wristband that guarantees a chance to purchase a PS4.

It's about as sad as that chap who queued for 3 days just to get the new iPhone/iPad thingy. It doesn't say that they are off ill, that's me assuming as usual. Asumption is the key to a lot of cock-ups. But queing that early for a console, it's a bit stupid i think. But each to their own i guess.

Must have been a recent change because I definitely got reward points from ordering my Wii U at launch, was something like £12 worth I think at the time so they have either changed this within the last year or, it's just for PS4/XBone because they aren't quite feeling 'generous' enough to give you points on them too being that the consoles are in high demand anyway or something to that effect.

 

It's a shame as I was planning on using the points but, never mind... I suppose we still get a good deal on ShopTo for regular purchases. : peace:

I recently bought 2 x 2DS's for Christmas presents, and didn't get points for them either.

 

It's probably due to the margin on hardware being lower than games (speculation).

Some people enjoy going to a launch event/buying from a shop more than receiving it in the post. That way you get to spend it with others and get hyped (and cold!) together.

 

I remember being at the official 3DS launch party. So many people rushed over to HMV in Oxford Street to see the first console (officially) sold/get one there with the hope of freebies. Me and Ashley stayed at the bar and chatted to Jonathan Ross instead :P

 

And if they were giving away 4k TVs for spending £350 on a PS3 and braving the cold a bit, I'd do it, but they wouldn't explicitly announce that/guarantee it otherwise the demand would be way too high!

I played on one too and I was disappoint ear in the controller. I've the worst by an absolute mile, they shape isn't ergonomic and they have the worst sticks imaginable. After hearing the buzz about the new controller I was expecting more, it IS better, the sticks are a huge improvement, but it's still doesn't fit nicely in my hand, I have tiny hands, but there's a still a huge gap between them and the controller. I have no doubt the xbox will be better and the gamepad (and pro controller are better); but saying this, it's with a few minutes with it, and ultimately it doesn't bother me as much as it does some how comfy the controller is.
