Ashley Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 La vita è bella With a name like that (Life is Beautiful) and with the first hour being a silly playful flirtation between the two leads I thought it would be a nice happy film to watch before bed. THEN IT ALL WENT TERRIBLY WRONG Although his attitude in the face of what was happening was commendable. Won't say what happened in case someone wants to watch it but good stuff. And it was still, ultimately, uplifting.
Babooo Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Whip It Enjoyed the movie. Kinda similar to Dodgeball. But I like. 7/10
ipaul Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 UP! ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME. FACT. I watched it again with my Dad. It just gets better and better with every viewing. It makes me happy, I could watch this endlessly. Carl is the best character. 9/10 Surely this description warrants a 10?
Coolness Bears Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Surely this description warrants a 10? No because it isn't perfect. :p My favourite movie doesn't even get a 10.
Babooo Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Up was indeed awesome. And for anyone who doesn't agree, I implore them to watch it again. When I first watched this, I didn't think too much of it, but after watching it for the 3rd time, I fell in love with this lil gem of a movie!
ipaul Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 No because it isn't perfect. :p My favourite movie doesn't even get a 10. So surely your scale is out of 9 then?
welsh_gamer Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 American Beauty This film rules. 4th film I've seen this year that's beed added to my absolute favourites list - the other three were Zulu, Dances with Wolves and The Wrestler. 10/10 Watership Down Didn't really impress me, possibly because the animation and voices kept reminding me of those cheesy "Don't play with fire or fireworks" commericals on UK television. The amount of blood and violence included was a suprise, along with the lack of humour for a filmed aimed at children, but it was an okay animated feature. 5/10 You, Me and Dupree Forgetable comedy. 3/10
Ashley Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Lost in Translation The Playboy of films; you pretend you watch it for the narrative, but its really about the visual porn. However I always forget Malin Ackerman is in this.
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Lost in Translation The Playboy of films; you pretend you watch it for the narrative, but its really about the visual porn. However I always forget Malin Ackerman is in this. I watched this last night, too! Stop stalking me. Love this film, and has to be one of my favourites now. It seems to be very hit and miss with people, though. I don't know how you could not love it...it's a very sweet film. Bittersweet, even.
Beast Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 So surely your scale is out of 9 then? Whatever happened to the bears, Coolness????
Shorty Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Kick Ass No comment on... Jet Pack? It was pretty cheesy, and whilst it made for a kind of funny and stupid moment, I wish they hadn't flown off on it at the end. Also lack of flamethrower and taking away the betrayal twist with Red Mist wasn't so cool. I also found it a bit odd that hit-girl's mum offed herself when she was pregnant and big daddy only had 5 years... But those niggles aside, a 9/10 movie for me. So brilliantly faithful to the comic whilst also daring to make choices necessary to transform it into a 2hr blockbuster. Really captured the essence of Millar's idea. Up was indeed awesome. And for anyone who doesn't agree, I implore them to watch it again. When I first watched this, I didn't think too much of it, but after watching it for the 3rd time, I fell in love with this lil gem of a movie! This may be true for me. I didn't enjoy it at all the first time, will have to rent the blu ray and try again. Edited April 3, 2010 by Shorty

Are you aware of what you just said? A movie whose whole plot is an allegoric reintepretation of opression, freedom, reason and blind emotion, plus the whole "individual and the corporate state" idea and which was released as PG-13 is aimed at children? What the hell where you on when you saw it? That said, I too was expecting better. But it's a solid 7, imo.
EEVILMURRAY Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I don't know how you could not love it. The fact that fuck all happened. I can't remember how long into the film I gave up, but it didn't exactly fill me with promise of something decent happening.
Ashley Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 The fact that fuck all happened. I can't remember how long into the film I gave up, but it didn't exactly fill me with promise of something decent happening. It was a reflection of life. Nothing fucking happens in life either.
James Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Clash of the Titans. Average Guff, nothing made sense at all. The whole thing was one battle here, one battle there and then the Kraken, THE KRAKEN. And in 3d, how did they get away with that!!! if your going to see it, dont waste your money watching it in 3d, hardly anything is in 3d and if it is, it adds nothing.
Coolness Bears Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) So surely your scale is out of 9 then? Don't confuse me. No because if it was out of nine then Up would get 9/9 making it the perfect movie, which it isn't! Just because a movie I've seen hasn't got a 10 doesn't mean another film can't strive to. Anyway checking my list I've actually given full marks to Ninja Cheerleaders, the greatest film of all time. Watership down was a weird film, felt like the moomins but with Rabbits. Didn't creep me out though. Two scariest films of all time Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Where the Wild Things are. :p Whatever happened to the bears, Coolness???? Oh yeah, I forgot about them. Actually forget your rating scales. TIME TO BRING BACK THE NONSENSICAL BEAR RATINGS. Kick Ass Firstly Nicholas Cage didn't annoy me. I'm unsure whether I've seen him in a film before actually he was the voice of Speckles in G-Force. Moving on, Film was cool. It has some BIG TIMES and Hit Girl was awesome. Felt like A more Badass version of Lazytown, which is always a good thing! It was hilarious as well and just generally a very fun movie. I'm glad I bought the posters pre emptively! So yeah... 6 SPICY Bears out of 7. Edited April 3, 2010 by Coolness Bears
Solo Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 10 out of 10 doesn't mean perfect, it's just the highest honour you can bestow something.
ipaul Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Yeah I'd go with that. Pointless having something unattainable on a scale, nothing's perfect after all. I think There Will Be Blood may be the only film I've watched that gets a 10...maybe the Godfather? Though with that it's more: I've been conditioned to think of it is a 10 and has slightly ruined any real critical perception of the film I might have had. Coolness - The 7 bears scale was best anyway :P Sliding Doors S'alright. Nice concept and ending. Nothing special really, though it was amusing looking at how much fashion has changed in the 11 or so years. 6/10
Cube Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I think a 10 is OK in a non-decimalised rating system as it essentially means that anything rated 9.5 or above will be rounded up to a 10. Anyway: The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus I quite liked it, but it didn't really seem to have much point, and all the characters didn't really seem to care about anything. It was interesting at times, and the effects were nice but some sense of danger wouldn't have gone amiss. 7/10 Law Abiding Citizen Some great action and well thought-out. 8/10 Inglourious Basterds Great acting, great story and great characters. 9/10 The Taking of Pelham 123 Pretty good and fairly interesting. 7/10
Coolness Bears Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 10 out of 10 doesn't mean perfect, it's just the highest honour you can bestow something. Ah ok, yeah that makes sense. Which is why I'm bringing back the Bears Scale (not because I completely forgot about it) since I do give 7 Bears out of 7. Coolness - The 7 bears scale was best anyway :P Definitely. :p
gaggle64 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 How To Train Your Dragon 3D The glorious romance of a nasally teen boy and a sassy teen girl who communicate almost entirely in exposition. Not bad, though the 3D added little and did my head in a bit. Basically it's Trainspotting except "Chasing the Dragon" isn't a euphemism.
dan-likes-trees Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Lost in Translation The Playboy of films; you pretend you watch it for the narrative, but its really about the visual porn. So much truth. Cracking soundtrack too. Actually improved on repeat viewing aswell, which can't be said for some of my other fave films everâ„¢. Might rewatch it soon. Zack and Miri make a Porno Rewatched with friends. LET US FUCK Predicatable, stupid, fun.
Paj! Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Lost In Translation is one everyone but me has seen. And I can tell I'd like it. I like Sofia Coppola's other stuff (even Marie Atoinette, to a degree).
Nolan Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Lost In Translation is one everyone but me has seen. And I can tell I'd like it. I like Sofia Coppola's other stuff (even Marie Atoinette, to a degree). Everyone but you and me, I haven't seen it either.
martinist Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Went to see "how to train your dragon" in 3D with gaggle64. It was alright in places, wasn't really much "3D" to speak about apart from a few "holy shit Ned! Its coming right for us" moments. I particularly liked the 3D floating ash....the 3D ash...I ain't shitting you. and two or three other parts where i see shit really jump from the screen. The movie its self wasn't too bad. Boy finds dragon, boy trains said dragon, village finds out about said dragon, boy saves village with said trained dragon, boy gets laid...probably. End of movie. Few comedic moments, nothing a kid would probably get though They're more for the parents i believe. It kind of sucked watching it through the glasses, the colour was dull as hell, I found myself purposely taking them off at certain points just to see it in full colour...boooh All in all it would be a better movie if the glasses didn't screw with the colour of the film and if it had more "in your face" 3D moments. Would probably do a hell of alot better when released on DVD. 7/10
