I don't know with certainty but I'd say Amazon and ShopTo are pretty reliable. Game still technically exists too. Argos too but can't imagine they'd do preorders.

Smyths are quite good for picking up the console from as well.

Amazon, i've had some friends who've had issues with Amazon not delivering pre-ordered games on day of release.

I would guess at the very least they will work for original Switch games. I'd bet that they work for anything that doesn't need any additional functionalities of the new ones.

Amazon seem pretty dependable, I think it's one of those where YMMV depending on what your usual Amazon drivers are like in your area. 

Maybe I'm misremembering, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the official Nintendo Store might be the actual best place to pre-order from – I can't seem to remember anyone on here getting hardware late from them, myself included (albeit for controllers and not consoles). 

I got my PS5 at launch through GAME who passed my console off to Yodel instead of Royal Mail as was advertised – while it did arrive on launch day, I wasn't a fan of that, and I think with their future being shaky at best and seemingly coming out with updates on their business model pretty randomly, I'm not sure I'd risk going with them. 

Of the "smaller" online stores, ShopTo are generally on it, but did botch their PS5 pre-orders back in 2020 a bit as I mentioned before –though that seems to be ironed out now? There's also The Game Collection where you'll probably be able to nab a decent amount of points on a console launch. 

Of the big retail chains left, Argos, Smyths and John Lewis are the ones I see people generally have good experiences with, though Argos messed up PS5 Pro pre-orders just a few months ago, so maybe they're worth dodging. JL had a 2-year warranty on the Pro which extended beyond the manufacturer warranty, so if that sounds up your alley, could be worth considering. 

I don't think there's anywhere over here right now where I can point at them and say with 100% certainty they're the ones to go with – ShopTo are my general go-to and were going to be my first port of call for the PS5, but then they had their whole mess and I had a few games arrive late from them last year. I think if you want it delivered Day 1, your best bet is pre-ordering at a couple of places where you can delay payment until closer to launch and then seeing how those pre-orders shake out, if they actually have allocation to match, etc., otherwise an in-store pre-order and collection may be your best bet

Yeah, these guys are probably the best bet. They also may introduce some kind of screening process like they've done in the past for limited items in order to stop scalpers.

Thanks for confirming H-o-T, I'd totally forgot about that but yeah you're right, they had that whole Nintendo World Championships weirdness last year! Damn, that feels forever ago now. Yeah, I think at minimum they'll probably expect you to have a Nintendo account – that's needed for the hands-on events sign-ups, even! 

I think this time around they're the ones I'm going to be prioritising getting a pre-order with, I just imagine that might be a bit of a task with them being the official store and all 

As an aside, I also just love getting an order from them, their packaging is lovely

The big ones are generally good. The Game Collection is probably the best "smaller" store but I have no idea what they're like for hardware, though.

I would say avoid ShopTo. Used to be my favourite place, now I'd feel safer just giving a stranger the money and telling them to pre-order on my behalf. Horrendously rude staff as well.

Going to try for Saturday from 14:00-15:00 myself, but got to imagine that'll be the busiest window.

Apparently Nintendo's share price dropped by nearly 5% since the announcement which made me laugh. 

Laugh at the shareholders and their ways rather than the situation itself.

I don't think they would have been silent for ages, released a trailer confirming it's still on Switch 1 and then pulling it away.

I'll likely do the same. Haven't used my switch in ages, so it all depends on the upcoming library and price.

Wonder when we might see the next Animal Crossing. As usual that could be one of the few games that would pull me back but I also feel like it's a massive game in the "cozy gaming" craze you see over social media these days which would be a big reason for that demographic to buy the Switch 2.

With the success of New Horizons I think they may already have something in the works for first year of release. My hope though is that they have changed it up quite a bit. Lets move away from the obvious rolling effect and just have if more flatish. We've had that since Let's Go to the City (or city Folk). Having played all the previous AC games, NH felt the least advancements in the series. I just feel the game needs something new to keep it going and apart from diving and the swimming aspect, NH didn't really add anything excitingly new. 

 

As for the Switch 2 itself, I have no issue with it being a more powerful Switch (if there is nothing new to add). Bring on the games and let them sell the console.

She keeps bugging me with questions like: "Is there a new Animal Crossing coming?", "Will there be a new Switch?", "WHEN CAN I PLAY A NEW ANIMAL CROSSING FOR ANOTHER 1500 hours?"

LTT's video on the Switch 2 brought up an interesting point about the sales numbers for the Switch and how they don't see the Switch 2 getting near them. A lot of the Switch numbers were from multiple devices in the same home and while you could assume at least one of those might get an upgrade, it's less likely that the others would, especially if games start off releasing for both systems.
