Helmsly Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I remember the OoT reveal and review being two of my fav episodes...also they did a feature on Shadowman which I loved (never finished that game and actually just purchased it on Steam) I think remember that Shadowman feature, didn't they get a psychoanalyst to look at each of the 5 killers in the game or something? I also remember a feature they did, trying to explain what Pokemon was about and why i was so popular in Japan, back when it was this strange new craze taking off over there. Also this:
Ashley Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I don't think I've read it in years (think the last issue I got was the Wii U launch one as I was given it for free and the paper was cheap and the content rubbish) but it's a shame to see specialist things go. Hope the guys that work there manage to find something.
V. Amoleo Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I've been subscribed to this since the last year of NOM. I guess it closing at least means I have the entire set of ONM. I subscribe purely because it's like a hard copy version of the history of Nintendo gaming.
nekunando Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I'm a bit surprised that there will be no Nintendo magazines any more, especially an official one, but given the internet and the severe lack of games coming out, it's hardly a surprise N64 Magazine, which later became NGC, was AWESOME I wish I knew where mine were so I could read through some of them again.. if my parents haven't thrown them out of my old house I loved how they printed a 98% score in one of their magazines for people to cut out and paste a review score of Starfox Adventures in a previous issue after the abuse they got for giving it 72%. Pretty funny : peace:
Josh64 Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Pokemon beach ball was where it was at. Holy cow, how could I forget about that! I think I actually left mine on a camping trip Also, BOWSER punching bag! Though given it's size, only feeble punches. It was just pretty awesome to have this blow up bowser on my desk :p again, don't know where that ended up either.
Mr-Paul Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I too had the inflatable pokéball, but the chain chomp beach ball was actually the best.
Cube Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I too had the inflatable pokéball, but the chain chomp beach ball was actually the best. Did ONM do one of those, too? NGamer did one, but the design was wrong. It was awesome.
Mr-Paul Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Yeah, got it from ONM, over a decade ago. Never bought NGamer. Also had an inflatable bullet bill!
Ike Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Did ONM do one of those, too? NGamer did one, but the design was wrong. It was awesome. Still got mine, though it's lying on my floor somewhere.
Happenstance Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Dont think I ever really read ONM apart from the odd issue here and there, I tended to buy multiformat magazines more. Still though its always a shame to see them close.
Jimbob Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Ah, N64/NGC/NGamer was the king of Nintendo magazines. I know my parents threw out the vast majority of all my magazines i had, but i managed to keep the 2 copies i had a letter and a mention printed in.
Rummy Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 2002? Was there some big relaunch then or something, because I'm sure I was reading this before then. Got a number of issues in boxes somewhere to prove it too iirc...
Glen-i Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 2002? Was there some big relaunch then or something, because I'm sure I was reading this before then. Got a number of issues in boxes somewhere to prove it too iirc... You might be thinking of Nintendo Official Magazine. Otherwise known as NOM.
Helmsly Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 2002? Was there some big relaunch then or something, because I'm sure I was reading this before then. Got a number of issues in boxes somewhere to prove it too iirc... There was Nintendo magazine system which launched in 1992 (and at some point along the way renamed themselves Nintendo official magazine), which ended in 2006. A different publishing house took on the official name and launched Official Nintendo Magazine from there.
Rummy Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Yeah, must have been NOM(def thinking that anyhow) assumed it was the same sort of outfit given the 'official' titles. Wasn't too far off @Josh64 myself in reading a good few issues when I was a young year 7(albeit a few years earlier :p) - I used to be such a geek and Ninty fanboy, you wouldn't quite believe it to meet me these days!
Rowan Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Real shame to hear the end of the magazine. Looking back they did have nifty free gifts like the E3 trailer CD, playing cards, GBA cartridge holder, Mario mousemat amongst others. I came across my NOM set from 2003 a couple of weeks ago in the middle of a clear out - enjoyed looking inside them but as it pains me at the thought of recycling them, if there are any collectors who want 11 NOM issues let me know.
Guy Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 It's a shame the website is closing too. I remember the forums on there being quite active - can we expect some new users pretty soon?
Agent Gibbs Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 the forums are closing too? god damn all those members released into the wild...this could be a chance for this site to expend...if thats what Ashley and the staff want....we might want to go all Golum and not share our precious n-europe
Rummy Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I'd certainly say some of N-Europe are a little precious, yes.
