The worst part is, the Mario RPGs certainly picture the Goombas as happy citizens of Bowser's Kingdom.

To take a theme as devastating as war, and managing to portray in part how it can be devastating, and applying it to something as simple as Goombas in Mario, which we play for 'fun' really kind of reminds you of how many things go completely unseen and untold. I found it quite powerful at bringing home the small, often unseen, impacts of wars and consideration of things from the other point of view. Simple but effective.

 

 

I'm still gonna carry on stomping them Goombas though.

Plus I kind of feel like the whole "oh, the goombas aren't evil and Mario's a terrible person for killing them" thing has been done to death, but oh well. :p
