Coolness Bears Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I have an insatiable curiosity for what people are up to despite having a disinterest in humans in general. Anyway I always find it interesting to see what tabs people have open currently and whether you all do that anyway. Do you have like a million all open at once and eventually get round to it or do you have too many open and eventually close some you have become uninterested in? are you more conservative and just have a few open at a time? My tab habits usually start off with the usual things I check and then put them in the background. Following that I probably have some youtube video to watch. Then the amount of tabs increases and changes over time which I find fascinating because by the end of the day I'm looking at completely different things. I usually open too many and then bookmark stuff that I know I will not look at/do now. Currently: Hart Of Dixie Episode 4 is paused. I have a Wikipedia list of United States presidents I am learning for fun. Facebook - arranging stuffs to do tomorrow. Vevo - Jessie J Domino (linked from advert from youtube) Dictionary - definition of the word flagrant Google - song that was playing in the Dior advert Youtube - The Gossip Heavy Cross N-europe - posting this New Girl (TV Series wiki) checking the ratings. IMDB - Another Earth page what about y'all?
Hamishmash Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I don't understand how people can have so many. I have about 4 and the very most... currently I have no other ones... but like my mate usually has about 40 or 50.
The Peeps Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I usually have 3-4. Currently have a game of scrabble in one tab, N-E in another and Xpert Eleven in another tab. Youtube may or may not be involved at some point. It's usually youtube, n-e and facebook :p
Jimbob Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I don't have that many tabs open at any-time. Usually it's just Facebook and N-E as standard. Most i've ever had open at 1 time was 15, and 1/2 of that was worthless stuff.
Cube Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 At the moment: N-Europe Forums and N-Europe Forums.
Daft Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I have two monitors. Pretty much always have KNEE, Facebook and Tumblr up and then during the course of the day I tab out. I usually end up with loads. I regularly end up with over 10/20 tabs open. But then I multitask like fiend so I do usually flick through all of them.
Jonnas Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Usually, I have the main sites I tend to visit (including N-E), with a few tabs open for youtube videos. Also, tabs are left open for things I'd like to check later. I do have a friend who leaves every tab he visits open. It's fun, looking at his computer when I'm visiting, I'll find world news articles, college work, ebay items, anime/series info, rage comics and various wikipedia articles all in one.
Magnus Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I used to have a ton of tabs open, but I lost them all in the Great Firefox Crash of '11. It was very freeing. Now I keep things more manageable. Everything after the N-E tab is just temporary stuff.
Paj! Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 More than 4 tabs starts to scratch away at my sanity. I can't just leave things for hours and hours/forever like some of my friends do. If I do have to, I'll minimise it - I have no business looking at it for now.
Emasher Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I always have my home page (custom page with a bunch of links) set as a FireFox app tab. I use this mainly because not having a bookmarks bar gives me extra room for for viewing content. The actual number of other tabs I have open really depends on what I'm doing. If I'm just browsing through pages, I generally have just the one. If I'm doing research, 2 or 3. If I'm browsing faster message boards, I tend to have tabs open to threads I'm watching.
Diageo Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I normally have 3 open at most. Right now I have "You could be happy - Snow Patrol" open on Youtube, this thread, and website for streaming episodes of Community. Earlier today I was trying to get myself to do an assignment I have due on the 5th, so I started looking up stuff on it, and opened a lot of tabs. But I got bored, gave up and opened a new window because all the tabs would annoy me, and that what I'm at now with the first bit of this post. The tabs open are all about Behaviourism and its key figures like Pavlov, Skinner, Thorndyke etc.
Goafer Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I have about 2-4 tabs open usually. The only time I open more is when I'm looking at cars for sale, then I'll open tonnes and go through each one and close it once I'm done. I do like to window shop for cars. I often open a few more when I'm looking through NE for the first time in a while. I open all the threads I want to read, then go through them in a similar way.
EEVILMURRAY Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I sometimes have round about 10ish then it dwindles down, depends how many threads take my interest.
jayseven Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 These days, typically I have one tab that flickers between facebook and n-e whenever there's no new content and another that cycles through subreddits. If thins in subreddits are interesting, such as the askreddit or TIL or a link in whatever board, then it gets a new tab that I get round to when I've 'cleared' that page. I can end up with 50 extra tabs, when surfing f9u12 for example (despite firefox plugin the images do not expand enough on my monitor unless I open in new tabs) - but that quickly goes back down to a much smaller number. I also do tend to keep pages open that are things I want to get round to reading - typically these'll stay tabbed for about a week before I admit I'll never get round to reading it.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I normally have Facebook, N-Europe and sometimes YouTube open. I rarely have more tabs open, and if I do it's because I need to remember to check them.
bob Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 When i'm at work i usually have my Gmail open, and facebook, and then something work related that i can ctrl-tab to when my superiors walk past. Maybe i'll have N-Europe open as well. Everything else is temporary until i've finished reading it. I tend to automatically close stuff when i reach the bottom of the page, even when i don't want to. It's very annoying...
Nolan Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I browse one site at a time. With forums though I'll typically background all threads relevant then switch to the next site to check while going through the threads. If nothing is going on, I'll play a game or read Homestuck.
Rummy Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I've got so many tabs open I can't read what any of them even are. I'll come back later when I've cleaned them up!
Jon Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Depends on what I'm doing really. If i'm just generally browsing then i'll normally just stay in one window. If i'm looking for something or doing research or work, i'll have quite a few open.
Zell Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I'm the same as Jonst. When I'm casually killing time on the internet, I don't tend to keep more than one tab open. It's when I'm working where I'll end up having dozens of tabs open. I don't know how I could ever write an essay without tabbed browsing.
EddieColeslaw Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I usually have a bunch of tabs open, the ones on the LHS could have been saved from days or weeks ago, either for reference or things that I want to read/look at but am not in the mood for it when it was discovered, and the ones nearer to the RHS can be closed at any moment. Currently: a picture of Snorlax: painting reference. a picture of Snorlax #2: painting reference. a pretty girl's Tumblr: looking through her pictures because she is pretty. page 4 of Thought Catalog: to read when I'm overly idle. Thought Catalog: Interview With Bradley Soileau, Actor And Model In Lana Del Rey’s “Born To Die” Video Thought Catalog: How To Screw Your Life Up After You Graduate College Thought Catalog: 8 Things Yoga Taught Me About Life Use Gnome Desktop with Docky in Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot): because Unity is fugly. Gmail: using in-browser gchat. N-E thread: I always pick Princess Peach (Yeah yeah, I could have hyperlinked them to make things more interesting, but...) Magnus and I are the only ones not viewing deviant porn, I see :p
Nolan Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Magnus and I are the only ones not viewing deviant porn, I see :p I'm on my phone so I don't use tabs, otherwise....yes deviant porn is usually a hidden tab. All of the porn all of the time.
Josh64 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 My tabs are always: N-E/N-E Forums (I don't post much at all but I'm always reading, like a stalker/ninja), Twitter, Facebook, YouTube. In fact, I can't have many more tabs than that.. my laptop is terrible and would likely explode.
Rummy Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) I usually have a bunch of tabs open, the ones on the LHS could have been saved from days or weeks ago, either for reference or things that I want to read/look at but am not in the mood for it when it was discovered, and the ones nearer to the RHS can be closed at any moment. I'm slightly similar to this! I literally have tabs 'to be read' opened from weeks ago, usually I say I'll find time but I end up just constantly doing other stuff, opening/reading new things, and with the handy saving of tabs by browsers now, it's easy to keep something on hold for months! Luckily chrome never does the thing I use to dread of FF, in that one day it'd repoen...but all my precious tabs would be lost! Ftr at the moment I have(brace yourselves); 1. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php - boinc compute for science 2. http://www.negativeworld.org/ - Negative world, reffered to it by BrawlInTheFamily 3. http://www.2pstart.com/2007/02/14/traitor/ - webcomic I have yet to read, think I was referred as above. 4. http://www.n-europeforums.com/showthread.php?t=33139 - Internet Dependancy! In fact, I'm clicking that now, watching a video, and killing that tab! The tab is now....http://thinksimplenow.com/happiness/how-to-overcome-resentment/! 6. http://thinksimplenow.com/happiness/how-to-overcome-resentment/ - How to overcome resentment. I wasn't looking to, I was trying to source a pretty good quote I saw Peter Andre make on Piers's stories or whatever its called. 7. http://hownottomarry.wordpress.com/ - What the animal world teaches us about relationships. I don't even know where this came from, it must have been a feeb link I clicked when drunk. I haven't the heart to close it without reading as it has a picture of a tiny monkey cuddling a pigeon. A TINY MONKEY CUDDLING A PIGEON. 8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conditional_probability - Condition probability.
