I see you're saving for a house so this may not be useful now, but one of the best things I ever did financially was when I paid off my student loans I started paying the same amount into a savings account each month. I didn't let myself get used to have that extra money each month, and after a few years it's now an appreciable amount.

This is what I plan to do once I've paid off my car loan =)

This is great advice. Add on to this any pay rises you receive just save the extra (or at least a portion of it) and it can quite quickly add up.

I might try this now my debt is gone. I'll have to get another account open and it was just £50-100 a month, but as you say, it'll add up nicely

The D&D podcast that some friends and I have been working on for a while finally went live today. We've got 5 character intros coming each weekday this week, followed by Session 0 and Episode 1 next Monday (I think, possibly sooner).

I've loved playing/making the podcast and hopefully that comes across in the episodes. I think they're good, but I am biased.

An addition to this: One of our super talented players drew all our characters and I don't think I've ever loved anything more:

i would do this but nhs....

I'm actually set to be down on money if we get any more payrises as my pension cont. will go up from 5.x% to 7%.  This happened to band 5's in the last payrise and a lot of people ended up OWING money in a damn pay rise.  As if the NHS aren't demoralised enough at the moment.

I wish I could do more for you and the NHS, they have quite literally saved my life. With this update, they'll likely do the same.

Its been a weird week! It probably doesn't sound like this should be in this thread, but two things happened:

- I finally got to see my consultant about my fibroids. Yup, ya gurl has got more that have grown after having a 9-10lb one removed in 2017. Now I've got two and they have no signs of slowing down. Just peachy (I actually have over 20 fibroids currently, but the rest have decided to just sit there and be chill). I was expecting a battle in care as my consultant didn't want to operate/do anything straight off the bat.

Our chat went really went and I got 45 minutes of one to one care. He's agreed that unfortunately surgery is the only option. So I have to make a choice of a Myomectomy(which is what I had in 2017, with a 7 inchish scar) or a full hysterectomy. Both will include bowel surgery. So its a huge risk either way and both will need my old scar to be reopened - eep.

I'm leaning towards a hysterectomy, which means complete infertility of course, I'm only 30 so I was surprised he agreed so easily, but the really matter is, I'm not going to get back and I'm already likely completely infertile anyway (its hard to test, but from my symptoms etc two hospitals believe this to be so). It doesn't seem like good news, but ultimately I cannot life the way I am now, so I'm really glad something is being done.

Onto the actual good news:

- I had a job interview today! There's two roles available, but one isn't publicly available for another two weeks, so I had the interview for one of them and I think it went well? The manager was a lovely chap and we had a few laughs during our chat. I'm not sure how well I conveyed myself as I'm not the best at that, but the opportunity sounds really interesting! So I'm hoping for good things next week.

Mentally after two days of big life decisions I am now a slug.

Aye the NHS has saved me on multiple occasions but it isn't without its flaws.  I honestly cannot imagine the pain you're in with fibroids. In your position I would almost certainly opt for the whole hysto, but its such a personal decision to make, especially when it comes to fertility stuff.  I am in theory able to conceive but the reality of carrying a child, and looking after a child would be very difficult with the myriad of physical health problems I now have.  Sending love and positivity to you and support with whatever decision you come to <3

I guess at least it’s going into a savings pot though, and pensions are one of the best ways to do it.

Glad it went well! Good chemistry with the hiring manager will generally get you most of the way to the job - hoping things work out with it!

Was going to react to this post, but was in a dilemma over whether it should be "sad" or "like!"

I've never had surgery, and it terrifies me. I think I'll probably need knees replacing eventually and that's a far cry from anything to do with bowels. But my son has had plenty of surgery, and surgeons are just miracle people.

It's tricky! I switch between very happy and extremely sad, but that's to be expected.

But first open surgery was very successful, even with the complications (and the nearly death bit), I recovered really well. I'm hoping that my body still has enough in it to do it again. Thankfully I had one of the best specialists in the country and now have one of the others too! Praise be to the NHS staff (though some of the admin staff can jump off a short pier).

I thought pretty hard about it this weekend and I am leaning towards the whole thing rather than having the same as before. My surgeon/consultant has said that both surgeries are really really dangerous and I will (potentially) have to have the hysterectomy anyway. Plus having kids right now could kill me or the child anyway. So what's the point?

I must admit I am quite sad about the choice being taken from me like this, but I'm ultimately very relieved that something is getting done and perhaps one day I won't have to worry about it anymore. Which is why the news is in here and not "bad news". Thank you so much lovely <3

I can't begin to imagine what you're going through (much less what you've already been through) and having to make a decision like you are but just wanted to send love and positive thoughts your way. As always if there is any little way that we can help let us know.

Indeed, more love and postivity is much needed right now, in this world.

I'm sending some love and positive thoughts out as well, to everyone who is going through anything in life at the moment.

May you all find the inner-strength within yourselves to make the right decisions, for you.

I can remember not so long ago, I had spent a short amount of time in hospital, then not too long after that, I left my job over a year ago now...

Not that I'm trying to compare, just that I remember at the time, I had support from many members of this community, which I'm grateful for to this day.

These days, I'm really actively trying to practice gratitude every day, and if I can put out some positive energy which helps someone, then that's worth doing.

With so much division going on, if we can help ourselves, and others around us, then I believe we can improve things.

Right now, I just want to say "thanks" to this community, as while we might not agree on everything, I think that there's more that we agree on, than what we disagree on when it comes down to it, and there does seem to be a general shift in conciousness going on... I don't know if anyone else senses it, but I'll take it as a positive sign right now.

If anyone wants to talk about anything, I know I mention it a lot, but I am happy to do so, be it via PM, Discord etc, or on here.

Wishing all the best for N-Eone and everyoN-E, each and every day, for the rest of 2020, and beyond.

Absolutely, the logical answer is there.. but you still have to grieve the loss of what you thought your life might be.  You can definitely get through this and find value and purpose in your life <3

TECH PEOPLE ASSEMBLE! I NEED YOUR HELP!

As you all know, I adore blu-rays and I love collecting them. I saw this beautiful motherfucker and just knew I had to have it!

brbray.jpg?w=450&ssl=1

Believe me, it's stunning. It's legit the sexiest blu-ray I own. It's an actual book and it includes Battle Royale II: Requiem on blu-ray, which has been a pain in my balls to get on its own. I own Battle Royale as a steelbook and I love the film so it made sense for me to buy this. Only problem was that it is only released in North America. It sucks but I read that it's Region 1 so it was fine.

So I thought that I would be able to play this in my PS4 or Xbox One or even PS3 because I own other Region 1 blu-rays and DVDs. It didn't play. It said my "player and disc has mismatched codes" on all three consoles. So basically, I can't watch the second one, which is partially why I bought it in the first place. I found out after that it's because the discs itself are region-coded as A, which I knew nothing about until last night.

I want to buy a multi-region blu-ray player as there are some Disney blu-rays that are only released in America (which I don't understand but that's for another day) BUT I figured I may as well buy myself a 4K player that will play anything and everything. Will 4K players also play blu-rays? So this is where you guys would come in, if it's possible.Admittedly, my wage is shit so cheap and cheerful but decent is key. There's so many that I'm confused as to what to look for but I basically want to be able to play stuff.

Help!

This bloody video.

It completely blindsided me and got me right in the feels. There are legitimately no words for how amazing I find this.

Stick with it, it's a slow start, but fuck me if the feels don't come out of nowhere.

Have to second this, one of the best things I’ve watched in ages - really worth taking a look at.

After a Covid-19 related delay, I'll finally start with lab work for my Bachelor's thesis tomorrow :peace:
Was at the institute for Molecular Biotechnology today to get the "paper work" done.

With lab work/research for the thesis, "actual" work so I can live and studies because I still have a few exams left it's probably going to be the busiest 4-5 months of my almost 31 years long life.

Thank goodness next-gen starts in a few weeks so I have something to cool down with. :D

First week of my lab-work is over (my supervisor is busy with a conference tomorrow and she has to show me how a procedure works so...no need for me to show up tomorrow :D).

The first thing I did last Tuesday: Make a mistake while preparing a solution.

giphy.gif

Rookie mistake. Wasn't a big deal as it was easy to rectify. Still...should've known better. But to be fair: The last time I was in a lab was 5 years ago. Really hope I didn't fuck up anything today 'cause I need to use the solutions/buffers next week.

Anyways, people seem nice. Not very talkative but maybe that's because everyone is incredibly busy.

Yup, I've enjoyed my time so far and I can't wait for next week when I do the first experiment :peace:

Congrats! Prepare for exhaustion. [emoji14]

Ours is 9 months old and such a character now. Are you allowed in to the ward to see the baby? We had our baby shortly before lockdown came in, really lucky in that sense.
