Ronnie Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 EA exec reassures everone these upgraded consoles are a good thing for the industry
Ashley Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Nice to see he's got the same line of thinking as a lot of people. Although I couldn't help but look at the Dreamcast logo.

killthenet Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Hoping they announce its coming out in late October alongside 'The Last Guardian', will be perfect timing for me as I should have £500 odd to spend on a console then.
Goron_3 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I wonder how cheap the PS4 slim will be. Can they hit the £199 mark?
Will Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I really hope they go with Slim at $200 and Neo at $400, I reckon they'll be a little more than that though.
Shorty Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Confused as to why they're still selling them with 500GB and 1TB hard drives when a lot of us upgraded our PS4s to 2TB years ago for a relatively low price. Am glad to see there's 3 USB 3.1 ports though. Assuming that finally means one on the back so I could hide the headphone dongle.... Bluetooth 4 as well, actually catching up with current tech for a change. Here's the full tech specs: Main processor: Single-chip custom processorCPU: x86-64 AMD “Jaguar”, 8 cores GPU: 4.20 TFLOPS, AMD Radeon ™ based graphics engine Memory: GDDR5 8GB Hard Disk: 1TB × 1 External dimensions: About 295mm × 55mm × 327mm (width × height × depth) Weight: about 3.3kg Optical drive (read-only) BD 6-speed CAV DVD 8 speed CAV Input and output: Super-Speed USB (USB 3.1 Gen1) port × 3 AUX port × 1 Communication: Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) IEEE 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac Bluetooth® 4.0 (LE) Power supply: AC 100V, 50 / 60Hz Power consumption: up to 310W Operating environment temperature: 5 ℃ – 35 ℃ AV output: HDMI® output terminal (4K / HDR output) Optical digital output terminal
Ashley Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 I did read somewhere there is a USB connection in the back.
RedShell Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Power consumption: up to 310W Fuuuuuuck! Captain Planet ain't gonna be happy about that. Energy suppliers on the other hand...
drahkon Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 Rise of the Tomb Raider gives you graphics/frame-rate options on PS4 Pro The first of these is 4K Resolution mode, which targets 30 frames-per-second and runs at a 4K resolution, though it’s unclear if it’s going to be native 4K or not, however unlikely. Then there’s Enriched Visuals mode, which also caps the frame-rate at 30 frames-per-second, but pairs it with a 1080p resolution. Finally, there’s High Frame-rate mode, which targets 60 frames-per-second at the same 1080p resolution. Crystal Dynamics said that the High Frame-rate mode may not always reach the target 60fps, but frame-rate should be north of 45 frames-per-second. Hopefully more games will have these options available. It works great in Nioh and I think every game should have this feature.
drahkon Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Sticker to be on PS4 Pro enhanced games (obviously). Sony are doing a nice job to make things clear. : peace:
Happenstance Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 Sticker to be on PS4 Pro enhanced games (obviously). Sony are doing a nice job to make things clear. : peace: For a minute there I thought that was the successor to the PS4 Pro lol
dwarf Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Yeah I think GAME employees are going to be barraged with a lot of annoying questions if that's the logo.
Daft Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 So I ordered a 55" Sony 4K HDR TV. Including delivery it was only £759. So I'm pleased with that.
Ronnie Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Sticker to be on PS4 Pro enhanced games (obviously). Sony are doing a nice job to make things clear. : peace: Nice job Sony with that sticker. Can someone explain the difference between 4K gaming on the Scorpio and 4K gaming on the Pro? Is it the same thing? I heard Microsoft were boasting about the Scorpio having "true 4K", any idea what that means?
Sheikah Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 (edited) The Pro does not do true 4K for everything; they use some techniques to improve visuals with a resolution that is still far above 1080p but below 4K. What they have done seemed to really impress Digital Foundry who attended the event, to the point that I think they've probably done the right thing (aiming for that £349 price tag). Ronnie Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 Interesting, I didn't realise that. So we have a 4K system, that doesn't play 4K Blurays, that doesn't render games at 4K and who's main selling point of HDR gaming will be available to every other Playstation 4 system with a patch. What a pointless mess this thing is. Surely PS5 can't be far behind, they'll need something to compete with Scorpio because this certainly isn't it.

Glen-i Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 How much are Microsoft paying you? Isn't that a tiny bit harsh? It's a valid point he's making. If you're advertising something as a "4K" machine. Isn't it a little bit strange that it's not achieving true 4K? Of course, if it lowers the price, then it's fine. But do we know how much the Scorpio is? If it's substantially more expensive than the Pro, I think it might have been a smart move.

By your own confession you haven't been following this - Ronnie has been doing this over and over for the past day. He's coming across way too eager to make a point that nobody is buying. He has made the same point while also saying how happy Nintendo must be. It's embarrassingly sycophantic. To answer your point - it's not actually called PS4K, and some games will support native 4K (while some won't). I think Microsoft's machine will be considerably more expensive based on the spec - if not, Microsoft are taking a big loss. They're also a lot slower to get it to the public, so I think Sony have definitely made the right move, although time will tell on that one. Based on the Digital Foundry impressions, it seems that what they saw was almost as good as native 4K because of the effects Sony managed to achieve. It was pretty much a game changer. Hell, even this generation most Nintendo games run at 720p. A console compatible running at a certain resolutions doesn't mean that every game runs at that resolution; it's the upper limit. Also, the Scorpio isn't out yet, and it will likely cost a LOT of money when it does eventually release. @Daft, that TV looks awesome. I've been looking at it for a while actually as our current set could do with replacing. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Yeah, I've decided that I'm gonna try and pay a bit more attention to the Other Consoles Board. If only so I won't be quite so ignorant in the future. It's just that I was always under the impression that the Pro was gonna be about 4K, whether that be due to my lack of knowledge or just seeing the wrong kind of assumptions, I don't know. But it was the impression I got. The price Microsoft give the Scorpio will definitely be a crucial factor into whether it's a success or not. That said, given their latest PR tweets, I kinda want them to crash and burn for instigating more console war nonsense. Anyway, going to go back about three pages and catch up a tad.

Why does it bother you so much, your not being forced to buy one. Don't like it? Don't get one. You still get all the great new games. did you make this much fuss when every iteration of the 3ds got announced?
