Cowboys & Aliens is an upcoming science fiction western film directed by Jon Favreau and starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Sam Rockwell, Noah Ringer, Paul Dano, Ana de la Reguera and Clancy Brown, based on the graphic novel of the same name. It is to be released July 29, 2011.

Trailer

The Year is 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger named Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). It's a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveller Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse of former opponents — townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors—all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

I find this title as odd choice for this kind of film but it has it reasons because it base on graphic novel with the same name.

Hmm, after seeing the poster you posted earlier, and after reading the synopsis.. To me it looks like a case of "sounds interesting but disappoints when you see it".

That is a great cast however.

Very excited for this. Heard about it a few months back before there was any real footage of it and the cast was really exciting, now I've seen the trailer I can't wait to see it. July isn't too far away I guess :)

James bond and Inadiana jones!

... yeah this is a family film that isn't actually going to be any good as a proper movie. The sort of film that I'd remember as a teenager, if I'd seen it as a wee lad.

I went and seen this last night and thought it was a piece of junk. It had very little humour in it, which was strange as I was expecting alot given the name of the film. The characters were flat as can be and I didn't really care for their plight at all. To top it off the cinema screen was busted so it kept flickering dark then light. I went and complained to the manager and scored some free tickets for any film, for me and my mates. That was the best part of the night. :D

I remember when there were little to no adverts and a woman came round with a choc ice tray in the intermission. They also used the curtains as well. No idea why modern cinemas still have curtains in front of the screen as they never use them.

But it totally worked this time:

Anyway, this looks to be a heinous piece of shit. Just look at the way they tried to stir up hype for it; fabricated a comic book series that they tried to sell off as if it was a long running line with some sense of prestige.

This was a fun movie.

It was not a masterpiece.

Walking into the cinema expecting a film called, "Cowboys & Aliens" to be a masterpiece would have been stupid.

But it was good.

Quite funny in parts, which I wasn't expecting.

Those aliens shouldn't have messed with James Bond.

That dude is rock hard.

EDIT!

I thought I had posted about this before!

(From the General Movie Thread)

I saw Cowboys and Aliens last night.

It was really good.

I thought it was odd that James Bond and Indiana Jones were in the same movie, but my friend explained that they are in the same timeline in the later films, so I guess it works out.

It was nice to that Indiana Jones picks up his "can't forget my hat" thing from James Bond originally.

Good origin story.
