Whats your mobile phone history?

Happenstance

Recommended Posts

I have not a clue what ANY of my phones were called.

-I got my first mobile when it first kinda became normal for kids to get them. I was 11, and even then it was a little bit after most other people had them. It was a brick.

-Second one was a brick too, less horrid though.

-Then I got a nicer thin one, still black and white. Had that for a while

-In 2005 I got my first colour one...yay camera, games OMG etc. That was good.

-Only had 2 since then, my current one is the Red and Black Music Xpress or whatever.

It was the first phone I'd ever seen with a colour screen so I wanted it. Man, it really sucked.

sony ericsson k700i.jpg

Outstanding phone at the time, envy of all my friends. Those joysticks were crap though.

Motorola%20RAZR%20V3.jpg

This was the coolest looking phone ever when it first appeared. It seemed to appear in every TV show that was on the air at the time. Gil Grissom had one. 10 cool points right there.

sony-ericsson-k810i-camera-phone.jpg

A huge improvement over the k800's issues with overheating and crashing plus it was a new and snazzier version of that k700 I had years ago. Loved this phone! Just threw it away recently because it finally gave up the ghost.

lg-viewty-silver-sim-free-unlocked-mobile-phone-extra.jpg

Viewty was a great phone in its day, its only when you move on to the phone I have now that you realise how inferior the touch screen is. But it was great for going online, had a huge screen and a great camera. I still have this phone but the touch screen is very innaccurate now.

Can't leave home without it. It does everything. If you're going to jump in with "except multitasking, lol!" you're wrong, because you can do that if you jailbreak it, and officially come June/July. Just a great device, feels like more than a phone, I use it as a GPS device for a hobby, as maps and MP3 player when driving, as video player when going away, for the internet/emails, for gaming when I should be working.

People diss the camera but it's actually great, it's only the lack of flash that lets it down. Take a picture or video in good light and the pictures are of a high standard, and then just a couple of button presses to email it to someone, put it on facebook or upload to YouTube. As a gadget it just makes me feel very connected with the world :) Wouldn't mind a better battery life though, and OS4 can't come sooner.

No Nokias in my phone history, I wonder how common that is. Although I do have a 6500 slide for the free 3-to-3 calls - but that is an old one of my g/f's and I never use it for anything but calls. And I bought a 5800 xpressmusic as a present which seems to be a very cool phone (for a Symbian, anyway).

I imagine that my phone history doesn't go back as far as some, a lot of my friends had crappy brick-mobiles back during school, however I don't think I got a phone until I left and they were much smaller then. Samsung's silver flip phones were very popular at the time and I certainly wish I'd got one of those instead....

Back in 2003 is when my first phone was thrust upon me. This thing:

LCD_for_Motorola_V300_V500_with_housing_camera_and_speaker.jpg

I didn't want a phone I had no use for a phone but my mum wanted me to have it for emergency purposes so my sister gave me one of her old ones. :)

I was right I never really used except for the initial few days where I took pictures of my cat and Milk Jug. So little in fact that having not used the service for a whole year I got cut off by T Mobile. :heh:

So after that it pretty much lay in my cupboard for the next few years, having rendered it ugly by scratching off the shiny surface of the phone, that was fun.

BAM! 2008 (or 2009, I no longer remember) hits and my mum acquired a phone from Oxfam for her use. I thought the phone looked hilarious and cheeky and thus took it for myself:

c139.jpg

I gave it a cheeky Text message bleep! :D Again I didn't really use it and got confused if anyone did ring me since I gave them names from Arrested Development. :p

It got to Uni and initially I used it a bit more for texting my friend/calling up my mum to chat with.

Then at Christmas my sister bought me:

samsung%20e1120.jpg

I use it to ring my mum mainly or for my mum to contact me. So essentially after all these years it is still just an emergency phone.

I think about 3 people have my number! Just the way I like it. :yay:

The only reason I would want a new phone is so I can have a Den Den Mushi ringtone.

From what I can remember:

nokia-3310[1].jpg

sharp-gx30.jpg

Motorola_V525.jpg

These three were passed down each time my mum got a new contract. I then got my own phones:

motorola_c651_phone.jpg

I really loved the look of this phone, and it's probably the phone I've had for the longest period of time.

sony-ericsson-k800i.jpg

Most people seemed to have this at some point. The camera was great on it.

9nbbSmml0aAjABR.jpg

My k800i broke, I was broke and needed a new phone. My only criteria was that it needed a decent mp3 player so I didn't have to revert to my iPod.

nokia5800-us-fcc.jpg

Probably the shortest time I've owned a phone for. It's a great little phone, but I was eager for something more substantial.

htc_hero.jpg

I adore this phone, and mine has a custom rom with Android 2.1 (and it looks like Android 2.2 will be unofficially ported to it). It's stunning to hold and Android is a great OS.

I also now have my own work mobile alongside my HTC Hero.

My second phone, also a hand-me-down from my dad, used it a bit more than the last one. Still didn't get much use out of it though

Bought this one myself, using it as my current phone at the moment. Wish I got a contract other than a pay as you go though >_<

Can't you just get on a month-by-month contract then, like O2 simplicity? Get much more for your money and you can cancel any time. I'm on an 18 month contract with mine that ends in December and I'm looking forward to moving over to Simplicity or something similar, iPhone contracts are a real ripoff.

Here's mine

First phone i ever had was this

product-5114638.jpg

The Motorola MR201 (sorry, only pic they had). Wasn't too good, only good for calling and texting (thats because that is all it ever did). Lasted a while, and it was my first phone as well. Had it on Orange.

Next, was this

cp3.jpg

Nokia 3310 (who didn't have one of these). Had it 2nd hand from my Dad after he bought a new one. Best feature was Snake II (awesome game). Ringtones were mono (compared to today, pretty crap. But in the day, they were awesome). 2nd phone with Orange.

Next was this

6gd69o8.jpg

Nokia 3510i (i did have the 3510 for a bit, only difference was the 3510 was black and white screen and had mono tones still, 3510i had colour screen and midi tones instead). Was a good phone, basically the same as the 3310, just with a few more features inc internet.

The 3510 was on Orange (3rd), but the 3510i was on Vodafone.

Next was

4b62acc6aeb4ce51d3e90f295.jpg

Nokia 6230 (and 6230i), the 6230 was a phone i had off my Dad again, only for 2 months whilst i saved for the 6230i. Improved phone, had MP3 features this time and Wifi/3G Internet available. Same for the 6230i (both models had changeable covers as well). 6230 was on Vodafone (2nd) and the 6230i was on O2 (1st)

Next was

nokia-n95-smart-phone-1.jpg

The Nokia N95, my first Pay Monthly phone (rest were PAYG). Had this on 02 (2nd and last), was probably the best phone i've had until it dissolved. Had sat-nav, improved games, real music ring-tones, 3D sounds the works. O2 spoiled my fun with this, insisting i got insurance (which was never honoured) and always over-charged me for everything. Was glad to get rid of it and O2 as well.

My current phone is this

nokia-n96.jpg

Model up from the N95, more robust and stable that the last model. I returned to Vodafone (3rd) with this, got a great deal with them as well. Only pay £30 p/m for features. Contract is coming up soon, so i gotta decide what to get next.

And that is a history of my phone(s), mainly Nokia phones as you can see.

First was an old motorola horrible one that I never remember using for anything besides Orange Wednesdays.

Then the one on the left;

57339248_kdAMN-S.jpg

Then sony ericsson ones - on my third one as i get a new one every 18 months, and the current one is my first slide phone, and the screen is scratched to shit and I've had it like two months. I hate phones.

It all went downhill from there :p

I can't remember. Nokia 3310, 3510i (see Jimbob's post), that Nokia that you could change the back case cover, then a series of hand me downs I think. Mostly Samsung. On the Tocco now.

Jesus Christ, how can you actually need so many phones???? Oo

nokia_8310.jpg

First one, given to me on christmas 2001, I was 13 at the time.

Nokia-N73-N529-1140-main_1.jpg

Second one, "bought" it in 2007 because the first one pretty much died. Was free because of the points I accumulated over the 6 years I had the first one.

God I feel old saying this.... I got my first mobile phone in 1999, when I was about 10. I know it was a Philips phone but can't remember the make. It was either a Philips Diga or Savvy but either way, they're very similar. Still had an aerial on it that you could unscrew

After that, there was a slew of Nokias. 3210, 3310, 7650.

Then a gap where I decided to go without a phone before picking up a LG Chocolate about 3 years ago or something and I've had that ever since. Never bothered to look at replacements as it still does its job as a phone. Touch panel sucks though.

Nokia 8210 - The first and greatest phone I've ever had. So small and light. I went through three of these. My mum had one and my brother and sister went trough a couple each. Just an amazing phone.

nokia_8210.jpg

Nokia 5210 - After my 8210 kept breaking I went with something more durable. T'was an okay phone. Nothing to write home about. I did love the casing.

nokia5210_415%5B1%5D.jpg

Samsung V200 - Another phone I just loved. Can't remember how it died.

samsung-v200-g.jpg

Razr V3 - Massive piece of cack. Slowly fell to pieces and had abysmal battery. Looked good, though.

Motorola_RAZR_v3.jpg

Samsung Tocco - Another duff phone. My current one.

iso-tocco.jpg

Hopefully my phone as of next month...

O_W; clearly people don't need all these phones. My first phone I didn't really use as I was like 10, my 2nd was £40 and was pay-as-you-go and I got it when I was 15 and actually wanted to text people, and the rest were on a contract phone, where I may as well get a new phone when they offer it to me because my old one's screen is totally battered.

Let me see...

Siemens C25 - It was my first phone and bought for dead cheap from Tesco when they had a deal on. I think it was only about £25... might have been less. Design your own ringtones... or just put on the Super Mario Bros/ Zelda theme like everybody else I knew.

Siemens C35 - The first phone I bought with my own money about a year after getting the C25. It cost me £85. Quite slimline back in the day and the screen had 4 lines for text which I thought was good back then as most of my mates phones didn't have that many.

Motorola V525 - My first and only flip phone. Bought as birthday present for my 21st and still working some 6 years later.

Samsung Tocco - First phone on a contact. Took the step after the fact I was spending some £50 on PAYG per month and that the battery on my old phone couldn't charge quicker than it drained from use. As far as touch screen phones go, it wasn't the most feature packed at the time, but I liked the form factor - doesn't bulge too unsightly in the pockets.

HTC Desire - My latest and definitely greatest phone. Not a fan of iPhones and the reviews for this were sounding too good to be true, but they weren't at all.

nokia_3220_tmobile_z1.jpg

Then I grew up and got a Nokia 6500 Slide

And now I've got a netbook Nokia N900
