Posted August 30, 2007 I watched 2 classic Sci-Fi's the other day. Alien Without a doubt one of my all time classic films. The amount of work and effort put in can be clearly seen throughout whether it be the awesome alien design to the all to believable fear. It really is just a perfect movie to me. 10/10 Brazil A movie that has much acclaim but I had never seen. It was on BBC 2 the other night and I decided to give it a view. I was not disappointed. t is effectively a semi-spoof of 1984 and retains all the quirks and humour that Terry Gilliam frequently uses. The film stands on it's own from all the comical social commentary from the upper classes idly walking by terrorist explosions to government employed handymen exclaiming "The government doesn't make mistakes!" followed by a series of them. The movies characters are what stands out the most as they all have their little quirks and eccentricities that bring light to any scene. Posted September 1, 2007 Transformers 5.9/10 The first film that actually made me want to go to sleep. And that was during the endless action at the end. Posted September 2, 2007 Batman Begins This film gets getting better and better. I notice more little details every time I watch it, really insane how much thought they put into this. 10/10 Casino Royale Noticed some little flaws this time around, sometimes the character slightly changes the position between cuts it seemed and the Poker game dragged on too long. But still Daniel Craig is awesome and the "Organisation" feels a lot more realistic than the villians in previous Bond films - especially Le Chiffre is great. Posted September 4, 2007 Barry Lyndon In a word: alright. It's undoubtedly a very good film, but the subject matter was of very little interest to me. It's about an Irish man called Barry in the 18th century, and his attemp to get into the aristocracy. He gropes women, has duels and fights in a war. It's over three hours long and I'd be lying if I said I just felt like turning it off more than once, but it was a fairly rewarding experience. 6/10 One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Just awesome. A brilliant tale about a criminal faking a mental illness and being sent to a mental hospital, he finds the way the nurses treat the inmates appauling and tries to escape/start a rebellion/many other things. This film sure as hell established Jack Nicholson as one of my favorite actors. As with some of my other favorites like Kane and 12 Angry Men, OFOTCN is brilliant because of it's characters. All the quirks they have, from stutters to outright megalomania, they're all well defined and interesting. Especially the Chief. Man he's awesome. 9/10 12 Angry Men Except for about 3 minutes, the entire film takes place on one set. A bit like Dinner with Andre, but good. It's about 12 jurors, 11 of which are convinced that an 18 year old stabbed his father to death, and only 1 (Henry Fonda) is sure of his innocence. This film was brilliant. It has everything I think makes a great movie in it. It's moved forward by it's dialogue and plot, it's characters have enormous impact on the viewer. It's pure plot and suspense and I love it. 9/10 Two of my favourite films ever. 12 Angry Men, I don't think I have seen a film with such a rich study of characters on such an important topic , which is made more impressive because the film didn't last any longer than 100 minutes. It's also an old fashioned story with a message, with the message being 'the system works', which I suppose is why I loved it so much. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is also an exteremly compelling movie, and has prehaps the best film ending, probably ever. Anyway, I haven't posted here in a while, so here are a few films I've seen recently. I can't be bothered with write ups, but still, here you go... Posted September 5, 2007 Well I saw all 3 of the original starwars films the other day.. and they get 9/10 - 9/10 and 8/10 from me... Jedi get's one point knocked off because it was the special edition and they changed 2 music numbers and went a bit too far with the "see what we can do with digital technology"..
