Emasher Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Tempted to put this on my Christmas list. The only concerning thing is the amount of people I see online saying that this will be broken on release, or glitchy. Will this be because there's tons of stuff crammed into the game, therefore more things to go wrong (as in, it's pushing the machine to its limits), or is it because it'll suffer from lack of polish? I know absolutely nothing about this other than its post-apocalyptic setting. You can expect a certain amount of bugs in any game with this level of complexity at launch. Bethesda RPGs have been known to be particularly bad for it though. Generally what happens is that Bethesda releases patches to fix stuff within a certain window, but at a certain point they just stop patching things. Why spend the development time supporting the game for years when you've already made most of your money on it? Skyrim was supported for about a year and a half. That said, for every recent Bethesda RPG, the modding community has released unofficial patches, which have fixed a great deal of issues that Bethesda has ignored. You may think that isn't relevant to you (since I'm guessing you'd be getting the PS4 version), but this time around, mods are going to be supported on consoles (aside from ones that require script extenders, but historically, unofficial patches haven't required this). If you've got a fairly limited time to play games, and don't want to waste it on something that's a buggy mess, I'd wait and see what others have to say (especially other PS4 users, because many bugs end up being platform dependent).
Daft Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 This sounds like a fucking mess. I guess that isn't a surprise but you kind of hope they could maintain a framerate.
drahkon Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Yup, sounds like every Bethesda game release. I'll still pick it up tomorrow and it will eat up my freetime
Goafer Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 The new bobblehead sits nicely alongside the Fallout 3 one:
Blade Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Just wondering whether this is something I would like. Does it matter that I haven't played on the previous games.
Cookyman Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Just wondering whether this is something I would like. Does it matter that I haven't played on the previous games. Nope!
Zell Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Got this in the post today! Looking forward to it. Just a warning for those who want to dive right in, the game took over 30 minutes to install.
Magnus Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Just wondering whether this is something I would like. Does it matter that I haven't played on the previous games. Just buy it already. You've clearly been swept up in the hype. :p I spent three hours playing this today. I spent most of that time exploring - I didn't even make it to the first settlement. I harvested some melons, bought a dog from some rando and tried to follow a robot - but it was flying halfway across the map and eventually I had to stop following it to keep some old woman from getting herself killed. Then I went into an old church and found some underground tunnels inhabited by raiders. I forgot how addictive these games are.
dwarf Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I have been leaking cum since realising I get to play the game this month. Avoiding gameplay is going to be a strain. Flink - you should 100% get this. Get it bro.

I never played 3 but this is the kind of gaming I loove. Still, weighing up whether to get it now. I'll either get it and never have time to truely get into it, or I'll get it and do no work or socialising until Christmas. No in between for me. Not a bad complaint to have but.. BTW - flink - I'd say the experience of playing Skyrim was pretty similar to W3 in terms of bugs - the odd totally broken thing and the odd crash but I never experienced anything truely major - and I never patched the game once, oweing to having no lan cable on my 360 at the time. So I wouldn't let it deter you from it. Looking forward to what everyone on here makes of it over the next couple weeks!
DriftKaiser Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I think I rather wait until they release a GOTY edition with all DLCs and all bugs are patched before make my decision to grab a copy tbh.
Emasher Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) and all bugs are patched So you just don't want to play the game? In all fairness though, reviews are making it sound like it's not as buggy as previous Bethesda RPGs. Edited November 10, 2015 by Emasher
Nolan Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Jim Sterling said bug wise it's basically par for the course. They're there and annoying just as usual but given the scope forgivable as usual. He gave it a 9.5/10. Sounds like some nice changes have occurred.
DriftKaiser Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I still have not forgot about their Skyrim fiasco on PS3.
drahkon Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Does the standard edition of the game always come with a Bobblehead figure?
Shorty Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Nope (that would take up a lot of shelf space :p) I think it was a GAME specific pre-order bonus here.
Agent Gibbs Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Bloody GAME & DpD, I had little faith my pipboy edition would arrive before today, but i didn't expect this! delivery slot by DpD is 15:15 to 16:15 Check the live map he's a 1/4 mile away or about 7 streets, round the other side of the park i live next to, it wouldn't take 30 min to walk that distance (if you sauntered) just why? what sort of organization are they using? time slots allocated by alphabetical order of surname?
drahkon Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) Nope (that would take up a lot of shelf space :p) I think it was a GAME specific pre-order bonus here. Hm, I got one without pre-ordering. Not that I'm complaining Played for an hour, have to do some other stuff, though. Can't wait to see more. : peace: Edit: Playing on Very Hard was not the best of ideas After I got the Power Armor I had to clear a town from Raiders. It was night and a freaking Deathclaw appeared to fuck me up. I'm already in need of more carrying capacity... Edited November 10, 2015 by drahkon
jayseven Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Decided to get the game last night and played it today. I'm getting the same sensation as I got with FO3 -- that is, i kind of don't really know what I'm doing or where I'm going yet (well, i mean I know I can just follow the quests but I want to go explore!). I happen to have today and tomorrow off work, so I can invest a chunk ahead of my mates. Playing on PC this time so the controls aren't as intuitive. I've just done what drahkon's done and not far after that. Spent about 4 hours on teh game (but i'm a bit blind and slow). Eager to get quests piling up, but there's a new mechanic (you come across it earlier in teh game) which I'm... just generally unsure about. It is a whole extra dimension in many ways, and I don't know how crucial or important some aspects of it are, so I don't know how to manage my time yet. They seem to have removed weapon degradation to facilitate parts of this new aspect - but I'm not sure if that's a positive or not yet (it probably is). The custom character options are quite vast, and they've changed how they handle conversations with quest-relevant NPCs to fit more in line with the cinematic standard of games these days. I've not had too many dynamic conversations either - the conversation trees seem largely yes/no/sarcasm/more info, and while I've not played Witcher 3 I'm not anticipating the same level of consequence from my actions.... but I'm really only 3 missions in so who knows! The 'perks' system is laid out differently but ultimately the same. Only thing is I don't know how many levels you have, so I don't know how to manage this side of things. But I have faith in the game providing great story, plenty of easter eggs and moments. FO3 soaked in and refused to let go. I'm sure this will do teh same as I explore! I've heard about legit spoilers being around... so I may be avoiding a fair chunk of the internet for a few weeks!

It was night and a freaking Deathclaw appeared to fuck me up. I'm already in need of more carrying capacity... I had a similar thing. I decided to bung all my stash in a case on a table at sanctuary. Then I was trying to build roofs and accudentally dismantled the table the case was on and the case disappeared. I just quit the game. Haven't gone back in to see if my stuff is there or not yet :P
Emasher Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I played for about an hour and a half last night and got to the end of the deathclaw fight . There are quite a few changes to get used to, mainly some of the changes to controls and menus, but some of the new changes have also forced me to change my looting strategy as well. So far I've enjoyed the shooting so much that I haven't bothered trying to figure out which key triggers VATS now. The only bug I've experienced so far was a woman's skirt spazzing out when entering the vault, but given the position it got stuck in, it didn't really bother me.
drahkon Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Finding your companions when you dismiss them to a settlement is a pain in the ass...I spent 10 minutes looking for Dogmeat in Sanctuary... They need to be marked on the radar! Speaking of Sanctuary: That settlement system...gonna be a huuuuge time sink I can see myself spending hours in building settlements and linking them. Currently at level 10 and can't decide which route I'm taking with my character development. Wanted to go for Stealth and Suppressed pistols/snipers. However, there are lots of other perks I need. Lockpicking, hacking, crafting, etc... Thank god there is basically no level cap. Playing on Very Hard is...should've guessed...difficult. Got destroyed by an onslaught of ghouls. Raiders gang up on me on my current quest. And some dogs come in packs to eat me alive...
Nolan Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 mine won't arrive until tomorrow apparently. My own fault, original preorder was under a card that's not active now.
drahkon Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Haven't encountered a single bug so far. Some frame rate drops, but nothing serious. And with that I have probably jinxed myself Spent some time with crafting weapons. Got a lot of Pipe Pistols. So what did I do? Modified two into slightly stronger Pistols and one of those into a Pipe Sniper Rifle : peace: Can't wait to get materials for suppressors. :awesome:
