Just realised that the design very strongly resembles the Gamepad from face on (note the shoulder buttons in particular...)

Wonder if they're trying to get 3DS owners used to the Gamepad's ergonomic layout?

Edit Also just noticed that the 2DS only has one speaker! Mono sound!? REALLY!?

No stereo speakers. Really Nintendo.

If it was clamshell I would actually consider this for my 3 year old as his mum doesnt like him using the XL even with the 3DS slider off.

However no clamshell means no buy!!

Looks like the love child of Susan Boyle and the Wii mini. This is what happens when ugly things and beer mix. Kill it, kill it nnoowww!!!!!

No power saving mode either.

Yeah there is, there's a slider on the side.

Is is strange that I don't find this ugly and some sort of an 'abomination'?

The only thing I have an issue with is the name, all in all I think it's a good idea.

What some gamers wanted:

- A Nintendo 3DS with a second slide-pad built in.

What gamers got:

- The Nintendo 2DS.

It's the ugliest thing I've ever seen, and I have family from Wales.

I strangely want one I my for collection purposes , The amount of ds consoles you find with snapped or cracked hinges is crazy. I can see parents going for this big time . It looks solid I look forward to the how strong is it tests, just to see it suffer a little for the hideous design .

People that are complaining about the lack of the clam shell design must not have an I pad or other tablets, I mean who really drops hundreds of dollars into devices that you can damage by dropping these days?

its ugly as sin, its like some bastard love child of a tablet and a game and watch, its further confusing the market over console succession......but if they are trying to just get the child market (since i've noticed a lot more emphasis on 3D being unsuitable for under 8's lately) then they could be onto something, it should also make it more robust as children seem to love smashing hinges

that said they should have not bothered and diverted funds to saving the wiiu, maybe then they could have afforded more than a $50 price drop

strangely the more i look at it part of me wants one.....

whats the back like though? is it a flat unergonomic mess?

and people joke about a 2DS XL.....what about games that effectively need the circle pad pro.....what will a CPP look like?

Posted

Spec sheet.

Battery life is better than original, worse than XL. A nice inbetween.

BAH! Nintendo have lost the fucking plot!

Wedge open the 3DS

Take away the 3D that can be turned off anyway! :p

And don't add any of the features people have ben asking for

... to form a handheld portable games console that's really too big to be either! LOL

To be fair, a second circle pad would cause more issues than just having the stereoscopic 3D disabled. It'd fragment the userbase considerably
