Shorty
I was surprised to find I had seen 92, thought it would be a lot less. Skipped a few because I think I've only seen half, or can't completely remember. Oh and if you didn't recognise the covers, a few of you may be able to tick these without realising Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (Spirited Away) Mononoke-Hime (Princess Mononoke) Hotaru no Haka (Grave of the Fireflies) Hauru no ugoku shiro (Howl's Moving Castle) Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbour Totoro) Tenkû no shiro Rapyuta (Castle in the Sky) And Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (Amélie) Vita è bella, La (Life is Beautiful) El laberinto del fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) Der Untergang (Downfall) Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) ... 14. The majority of those being Disney/Pixar films. =P Not even Terminator films? Alien? Indiana Jones? Do you just not really like movies? You're missing out on a vast amount of amazing cinema here. EEVILMURRAY
Just 53, I am surprised. Shite like Memento at 29 and quality stuff like Back to the Future at 70? The Maltese Falcon at 103?! This list is fucked. All these modern animations but none of the timeless genius work. Disgraceful. EDIT: 56 after Shorty's pr0 translation remix. Happenstance
Ive seen 99 of those. I think its possibly more though, when I was younger I did used to watch a load of old movies but I can never remember which ones they were.
Ganepark32
52 for me. Like a few others, I've watched little in the way of what you'd call classic cinema (pre-1950s). Some strange choices on that list, but mainly a lot of reminders that I need to watch certain films I've missed/not gotten round to yet.
Shorty
I'm sure everyone's aware of this but just in case, IMDb is ranked solely by user ratings, so there's not really any 'choice' involved. In the case of the top 250 it's narrowed to logged in users who make regular votes, so as not to be skewed by idiots who vote The Shawshank Redemption as 1-star because it doesn't have boobs in it (you saw that Amazon review thread, you know that kinda shit happens). Rummy
I kept losing count, but I feel pretty good about myself cos I'm usually terrible at seeing films! I think I've got about 57/58 with like...4 halves? Had to lookup a few of the foreign names, I think I caught them all! Bit sucky that some of the things in the list were sort duplicates, having specific films from a series or then having the generic as well? They must have been short on ideas! I will take this oppurtunity to recommend a film from the list, Mou Gaan Dou, which is the original and totally banging Hong Kong film upon which The Departed was stolen from. Everyone raves about The Departed, but it's totally cashing in. I got 67 (thanks Shorty for Spirited Away and Pan's Labyrinth). 1 The Shawshank Redemption 1994 imdb Rating: 9.2 584,015 votes 2 The Godfather 1972 imdb Rating: 9.2 452,901 votes 5 Pulp Fiction 1994 imdb Rating: 8.9 464,751 votes 6 Schindler's List 1993 imdb Rating: 8.9 308,973 votes 8 Inception 2010 imdb Rating: 8.8 336,623 votes 10 The Dark Knight 2008 imdb Rating: 8.8 521,629 votes 11 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 imdb Rating: 8.8 305,875 votes 12 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003 imdb Rating: 8.8 405,234 votes 14 Fight Club 1999 imdb Rating: 8.7 431,233 votes 16 Star Wars 1977 imdb Rating: 8.7 349,383 votes 17 Casablanca 1942 imdb Rating: 8.7 182,780 votes 19 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001 imdb Rating: 8.7 427,985 votes 22 Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981 imdb Rating: 8.7 265,731 votes 23 The Matrix 1999 imdb Rating: 8.7 424,350 votes 30 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002 imdb Rating: 8.6 362,652 votes 32 Forrest Gump 1994 imdb Rating: 8.6 343,563 votes 40 American Beauty 1999 imdb Rating: 8.5 322,601 votes 42 Terminator 2: Judgment Day 1991 imdb Rating: 8.5 265,080 votes 43 Saving Private Ryan 1998 imdb Rating: 8.5 299,936 votes 44 Alien 1979 imdb Rating: 8.5 199,353 votes 47 Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi 2001 imdb Rating: 8.5 116,714 votes 48 The Shining 1980 imdb Rating: 8.5 199,974 votes 52 The Pianist 2002 imdb Rating: 8.5 152,993 votes 58 The Departed 2006 imdb Rating: 8.4 297,184 votes 60 Aliens 1986 imdb Rating: 8.4 185,989 votes 64 Reservoir Dogs 1992 imdb Rating: 8.4 234,924 votes 70 Back to the Future 1985 imdb Rating: 8.4 229,508 votes 74 Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1975 imdb Rating: 8.4 168,497 votes 77 El laberinto del fauno 2006 imdb Rating: 8.3 174,983 votes 79 The Green Mile 1999 imdb Rating: 8.3 227,108 votes 90 Braveheart 1995 imdb Rating: 8.3 266,581 votes 91 Inglourious Basterds 2009 imdb Rating: 8.3 218,855 votes 95 Gladiator 2000 imdb Rating: 8.3 313,787 votes 97 Gran Torino 2008 imdb Rating: 8.3 154,467 votes 106 Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 1983 imdb Rating: 8.3 230,968 votes 108 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 1989 imdb Rating: 8.3 187,882 votes 110 Die Hard 1988 imdb Rating: 8.3 202,091 votes 111 The Great Escape 1963 imdb Rating: 8.3 68,581 votes 114 Batman Begins 2005 imdb Rating: 8.3 299,012 votes 115 Jaws 1975 imdb Rating: 8.2 152,930 votes 118 Hotel Rwanda 2004 imdb Rating: 8.2 103,216 votes 125 Slumdog Millionaire 2008 imdb Rating: 8.2 204,238 votes 126 The Wizard of Oz 1939 imdb Rating: 8.2 114,020 votes 131 Snatch 2000 imdb Rating: 8.2 196,074 votes 132 The Sixth Sense 1999 imdb Rating: 8.2 264,636 votes 134 The Lion King 1994 imdb Rating: 8.2 159,846 votes 139 Donnie Darko 2001 imdb Rating: 8.2 234,051 votes 143 Platoon 1986 imdb Rating: 8.2 120,415 votes 144 Toy Story 1995 imdb Rating: 8.2 175,663 votes 145 District 9 2009 imdb Rating: 8.2 182,130 votes 146 Into the Wild 2007 imdb Rating: 8.2 119,693 votes 151 Trainspotting 1996 imdb Rating: 8.1 167,304 votes 153 Gone with the Wind 1939 imdb Rating: 8.1 87,726 votes 157 Groundhog Day 1993 imdb Rating: 8.1 152,991 votes 163 Life Of Brian 1979 imdb Rating: 8.1 104,495 votes 166 Avatar 2009 imdb Rating: 8.1 311,011 votes 167 Finding Nemo 2003 imdb Rating: 8.1 188,952 votes 169 The Terminator 1984 imdb Rating: 8.1 199,591 votes 172 The Bourne Ultimatum 2007 imdb Rating: 8.1 166,699 votes 179 V For Vendetta 2006 imdb Rating: 8.1 254,416 votes 200 The Incredibles 2004 imdb Rating: 8 179,360 votes 207 In Bruges 2008 imdb Rating: 8 113,965 votes 215 Rocky 1976 imdb Rating: 8 112,357 votes 223 The Truman Show 1998 imdb Rating: 8 179,687 votes 235 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 2003 imdb Rating: 8 261,901 votes 244 Monsters Inc 2001 imdb Rating: 8 135,085 votes 246 Beauty And The Beast 1991 imdb Rating: 8 79,142 votes Oo, I missed Pan's Labrynth! Sprout
Not even Terminator films? Alien? Indiana Jones? Do you just not really like movies? You're missing out on a vast amount of amazing cinema here. I did watch one of the Indiana Jones movies fairly recently. Think it was called Temple of Doom? Didn't think it was that great, though... And as for Terminator, no, haven't seen a single one of those, heh. I can't really say why I don't watch that many movies, because I don't really know myself. Well, I do consciously choose not to watch some movies due to the blood and gore, which I can't really handle that well. Heck, even the surgical scenes in hospital shows are capable of making me faint. =P

Heck, even the surgical scenes in hospital shows are capable of making me faint. =P I went through the list to find you some great movies with no blood. There really isn't very many. But to name a few: 12 Angry Men Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Back to the Future (cant think of any...) Some Like it Hot what am I thinking?? There's a big gang shootout at the beginning. But if you skip that... Groundhog Day The Truman Show But yeah, you definitely shouldn't watch Terminator Edited April 19, 2011 by Shorty

Murr
I don't know, I haven't seen them (I do have TGTBTU though, just not got round to watching it). What's your point? That there are some random films on that list, that surely could be replaced with something else. Quite a few animated films on there (as good as they may be) that are taking the place of some other films that may of deserve to be there. it's not everyone's cup of tea but Titanic? A Beautiful Mind, Crash. I guess the list cant cater for all tastes, but just some random films on the list. Edited April 19, 2011 by Murr
