ReZourceman Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Because I know people may/will think "I bet he puts chains" in or whatever, and I do not want to disappoint. What are your favourite restaurants? Both chain and not I guess. But definitely both, not just "not chaiN" etc because we may not all know the one you're referring to. I will post soon when this plate is not in my way, but I love Prezzo and La Tasca. Will go into more detail with specific dish choices. Yew?
Happenstance Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Really like Old Orleans Goafer and I go there most times when we go to the cinema, very nice nachos! Just a shame there isnt one closer around for us.
Retro_Link Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) Awesome food!... Loaded Potato skins & Fajita's FTW!! And they're so happy with all their little badges on them, and sitting eating above the bar watching all the cocktails being made/cocktail making tricks!! Edited January 18, 2011 by Retro_Link
Ashley Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) Urr. Not sure. I tend to eat with my housemate and as she's allergic to pretty much everything under the same we go to smaller ones...I think. I dunno, I just go along. Oh wait we went to Nandos the other night. I suppose I like that I know! Although I don't go that often as its out of my price league. Edited January 18, 2011 by Ashley
Guy Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I can't immediately think of any chain restaurants I hate, aside Little Chef which is a terrible ripoff, so I'm just gonna say I love all of them. All. Of. Them.
jayseven Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Not been to La Tasca in yeaaarrs. Can't afford restaurants in general, but there's a few great ones in brighton that are non-chain (Blind Lemon Alley is a well kept secret). Been to a couple Frankie and Benny's and the food was average. You get 'themed' chains like this, then you get chains like Pizza Express/Ask where the theme is usually subtler. I prefer those places. I think. My dad used to take me and my sister to a restaurant every weekend when we were growing up - proper restaurants. We'd have to fight him to take us somewhere like Pizzaland, and he flat-out refused McDonalds and that ilk. Ramble. I think me and friends, when meeting up, tend to skip the restaurant and go straight to a spoons and order food there. Even though it's proper shit.
The fish Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Jamie's Italian is actually pretty damn awesome and authentic - I cannot recommend it enough, actually. :awesome: Other than that (and Orange Wednesday Pizza Express's) I'm not really into any chain restaurants. Of the last 5 places I've been out to eat, none are chains.
Diageo Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Domino's Pizza and Eddie Rockets [probably has a different name outside Ireland].
ReZourceman Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Oh god TGI Fridays is amazing. And to elaborate on dishes. (La Tasca) Chorizo. FOR THE FUCKING WIN. Sautee that mother fucking shit in red wine and feel the flavour explode in your mouth. (Prezzo) Tre Gusti pizza (pancetta, moist as fuck chicken, pepperoni and...Italian ham?) extra mozzerella. Mouthfuls of this in my mouth...jesus. It hits every god damn corner of the taste buds...spice, salt, creamy, mellow, crispy, soft, gooey, chewy. AHHH. (TGI Fridays) Fucking all of it. But. Mozzerella Dippers, JD Sesame Chicken, Steak/Salmon/Anything JDglazed, Cheesy Cheese Burger...Montery Jack burger. A) HFS Fish changed his avatar. B) Jay, is lemon alley place the one with the cool milkshake/ice cream shop, lots of jewellry shops and sweet shop (or two?) well whatever that place was Claire and I really really loved it. We actually hopefully intend to go back to Brighton for a weekend this year (as we have probably decided that NYC won't happen this year due to moving out. Mebbe) I should probably propose soon too. Thats a different thread though.
jayseven Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I'd always have that chorizo, the meatballs, patatas bravas and, iirc, the garlic mushrooms. Not all to myself ofc - essentially we'd order 5 dishes for every two people. At that stage I was a real fussy eater so i can't remember what else we had.
Retro_Link Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I should probably propose soon too. Thats a different thread though.Awesome man!Just make sure you differentiate it enough from all your Comedy Rezbow stuff, i.e. NO CAMERA's around, NO jumping out at her... so you don't get a laugh or "MICHAEL!!" right back at ya!
Dan_Dare Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 So tonight I had home made vegetable casserole from the Otto Lenghi book with a glass of red wine and cafetieré brewed ground coffee to finish. Zing
Jon Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) It's normally TGI Fridays or Frankie and Bennies. I used to go to Chiquitos quite often but haven't been in a good while. I tried Wendy's when I was in NYC and it was rank, just a Burger King copy. Not much of a restaurant, but you can't beat a Subway now and again. Edited January 18, 2011 by Jon
Paj! Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 --- REALISTICALLY THOUGH I really wanna go to Jamie's Italian again, it's literally at the end of my road. Loved it the first time. I like a lot of restaurants though. Nando's has been nice both times I've been, Hard Rock and TGI are alright I suppose etc etc. Nicest steak/meat (what I consider real food) I've ever had has been at DisneyWorld. Contemporary Grill/Flying Fish. Mmmmmm...Yes. ALSO the Japanese restaurant at Epcot blew me under the table. I do love Wendy's.
Beast Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 My favourite restaurants are Nando's (nice but expensive sometimes), Pizza Hut (haven't been in ages because of my diet) and anywhere with a very good carvery (what can I say, I love me some carvery!). I used to like Domino's Pizza but I wouldn't eat there anymore on principle. I see these poor sods standing in the rain holding/wearing these signs promoting them and they're there for a good couple of hours. Some of them even hide their faces so nobody can see who they are and I think it's a shame. I just don't see what's wrong with putting signs up somewhere on lampposts, it's just as effective. So yeah, I hardly went there anyway but still, I wouldn't go there again.
jayseven Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 B) Jay, is lemon alley place the one with the cool milkshake/ice cream shop, lots of jewellry shops and sweet shop (or two?) well whatever that place was Claire and I really really loved it. We actually hopefully intend to go back to Brighton for a weekend this year (as we have probably decided that NYC won't happen this year due to moving out. Mebbe) Uhh... I think you're thinking of The Lanes - Brighton square (fountain with dolphins) in the middle with almost-cavernous lanes and a bunch of shops. There used to be a cactus canteen on that corner (anyone remember them?) and that became... fratelli's I think, now. it's near ship street, which is near middle street, which is where... Blind Lemon Alley is. mad Propz to anyone who's a) spotted it and b) got the guts to go there. It's not freaky or anything, it's just a bit oddly placed.
ReZourceman Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 I do love Wendy's. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.
Mr-Paul Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Dunno if it counts as a chain (has 4 restaurants) but seriously, this is my favourite place ever. http://www.chilango.co.uk/ Does the best burritos i've ever had, me and my friend make sure we go once a week :P Pork, chicken, beef, black beans, pinto beans, sour cream, guacamole, cheeeese, salsa... all soo gooooood! Anyone who lives in London (upper street and fleet street), Sheffield (meadowhall) or Kent (bluewater) seriously needs to get there and try it. Also, free refill drinks and frozen margaritas ftw.
Dog-amoto Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) Went to an Eddie Rocket's when I went to Dublin. Don't think they have them here. But they remind me a bit of Wimpy. The food was pretty good, but the place seemed a little...grotty to be honest. Maybe it was just the one I went into though. But it wouldn't put me off going again As for stuff closer at hand, you can't go wrong with Pizza Express, TGIF and Frankie and Benny's. Only been to Hard Rock once, it was ok but waaaaayyy too expensive for what it was. Not sure what all the fuss is about Nando's though Edited January 18, 2011 by Dog-amoto
Mr_Odwin Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 They was a Wendys in Croydon when I used to live near there. Not too far from kingston!
Paj! Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I remember going to one in London once. I fear they've all been taken though. Also: Totally forgot about Wimpy! I loved.

That place was my safe haven when I was in Sheffield, AMAZING. That and Wagamama's are probably the only chains I really like. Generally a lot of chain restaurant food is just really boring and does nothing for me.
