Whoo, well done! Any idea yet what the PhD would be on? =)

I was told I should go for a PhD by one of my lecture people, but I don't really want to spend another 4 years working/researching on something. It'd mean 4 more years in school! Even if it's paid, that's not something I could go through anymore. =P

(Plus I would be 30 by the time I finish... No thanks!)

Thanks! I'm on a research project looking at comparative syntax, and am specialising in constructions where things are fronted in sentences to give them discourse prominence. If that makes any sense...

Anyway, I can see why you chose not to do a PhD, I was having cold feet about it earlier. :heh: It must be nice to get a real job after a long period of studying.

Yeahhh that doesn't make any sense to me haha. But it sounds cool and right up your alley! =)

I've spent 8 years in higher education (that includes 3 years on the course I quit), so I think it's time for me to start doing something else now. Even though I'm still jobless right now but oh well. =P

Clearly you're unaware how poorly paid linguists are, if they can get jobs at all. :heh: I don't mean people who speak languages, they can get plenty of money.

I'm quite sure that's true, but I still suspect you're possibly being... let's say optimistic.

I do agree however that Eenuh's probably going to make it fine.

Obviously he's counting on Ine becoming a famous artist. :hehe:

What do you do with a B.A. in English?

What is my life going to be?

Four years of college

And plenty of knowledge

Have earned me this useless degree.

I can't pay the bills yet

'Cause I have no skills yet.

The world is a big scary place.

But somehow I can't shake

The feeling I might make

A difference to the human race!

As some on Facebook may have noticed. I have invented a brand new beverage.

WhamKa.jpg

THE WHAMKA.

It is a silky smooth drink with the hint of Wham. It's going through beta testing but it seems like 1lt bottle needs 2.5 Wham bars, mixed with some lemonade and ice to make a successful WhamKa.

We're getting a kitten on Sunday :)

Was putting washing out on the line this morning with my girlfriend, and our neighbours were out in their garden. they've got 5 cats already, well the women walks up to our fence and starts talking to us.

she said "you like cat's don't you!" me and Heather both responded yes, then she pulls this tiny little kitten out of nowhere and asked if we wanted it.

without even discussing my girlfriend grabbed it cuddled it and said yes...

I had to remind her we have nothing, no litter tray, no food dishes, no kitten food, not to mention no money for the vet expenses that a kitten has (injections etc) but this didn't seem to phase her,

so yes... we'll be having our first cat together on Sunday.

Awww a kitten, awesome! I hope to someday have my own pets, which I can keep inside the house. =)

*has two cats and a dog but they're not allowed in, boooh*

I'm currently all hyper (sorta) because I got so much to do haha. Working like crazy to get my stuff done for the art market. I got rings, lots of earrings, some necklaces, some magnets, postcards, greeting cards, stickers... I only have today to arrange it all as tonight is HP and tomorrow I'm off to the UK!

:bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

I'm meant to be doing this thing on Saturday (a coaching course for trampolining, if anybody cares). I signed up for it a good 3 weeks ago and sent off my payment cheque and everything.

Then on Monday I get a phonecall out of the blue from someone at Scottish Gymnastics (a famously useless organisation, that are meant to be the ones organising the course) telling me that it was fully booked and I didn't have a place on the course. Even though I had applied 3 weeks previously and had spoken to someone from the same department not 4 days before. Despite my moaning, I was told there was nothing that could be done, and that they would contact me when another course was being done.

The problem with that is that I need to have done this course by March, so that in March I can do the second level course. If I don't, then next September there will be nobody suitably qualified in my Uni club to run sessions. Therefore = no uni club. Even though we are the 2nd most successful sport at Glasgow (we won our national champs this year that covers the entire UK). So instead of taking no for an answer, I decided to go around Scottish Gymnastics and contact the guy running the course directly, as I know him in passing from other stuff.

Funnily enough he had no problem with me being on the course and told SG to put me on it. Thus many grovelling emails are bandied around from them and I'm getting on it afterall "to ensure the survival of the university club". Exactly like I told them in the first place.

/rant

But hey, I am now on it, and all is well in the world!

TL;DR : Never take no for an answer. You don't ask, you don't get.

Just had a meeting with my boss.

We're currently setting up a new sub-company dealing with new products, and it will likely be a success. For this new company, I will be a named director and get 5% of the company. It won't mean a lot short-term, but over time I'll get pay rises and cash bonuses. Which is very awesome indeed.
