Aimless Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Yeah why is that when the PS3 is supposedly slightly superior? Simply put, the PS3 is more of a bastard to work with. Its architecture is rather eccentric whereas the 360 is far more like a traditional PC, meaning it's much easier to get things up and running on the Xbox. As the 360 is the lead development platform for the majority of multi-format games, there's a tendency for the PS3 version to end up rather lacking as it's far easier to port things the other way due to the PlayStation's more convoluted RAM distribution and other technical differences that I'd rather avoid knowledge of if I can help it. Games that are built from the ground up for the PS3 can debatably look better than the 360's output — Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, etcetera — as the technology behind them takes the machine's flaws and bottlenecks into account so as to work around them. Unfortunately for Sony it's much easier to get results from the 360 and it has the larger install base so even though the PS3 may have more potential waiting to be tapped, for many developers there isn't much impetus to spend the time or the money fulfilling it. Anyway, I'm not sure which version I'll be buying. For some reason I find the DualShock 3 more comfortable for RE5 than the 360 pad, but on the other hand framerate drops really grate with me; give me a fluid game over super hi-res textures any day. But then the 360 version has some really annoying screen tearing if the machine is set to 1080p, so I'd have to keep switching resolutions when I wanted to play it... Honestly I don't know how I cope with having to make these highly important decisions.

Aimless Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Sorry Choze, I forgot you have trouble with objectivity. Here, I'll do a different post just for you: The slowdown in the PS3 version just makes things more dramatic, like slow motion! It let's you take in all the details of the graphics that are only made possible due to the Power Of PlayStation, unlike on the 360 where everything's just black. Also having to install the game means that you have some time to read the manual and brush up on some important information; I bet none of the Xbots know that Sheva Alomar's blood type is AB!

Daft Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 An unsurprising 7/10 from Eurogamer. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/resident-evil-5-review
Aimless Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 The interesting thing is that if you snip away a paragraph or two and change a few numbers, it could well be a review of RE4. Anyway, I've had more fun with the demo than the entirety of Gears of War 2 so it's fair to say that I'm going to enjoy the full game. And I can't believe people are still complaining that you can't move and shoot at the same time; it's a rule the game is built around, just like not being able to pick up the ball in football.

Agreed for example Burnout Paradise developers Criterion have stated that Burnout Paradise is better on the PS3 as it was developed initially for that system.
Choze Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Should still be good. I hope my accidental half price copy gets processed.

Retro_Link Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 it's the rule Resi is built on, yes, but this game is more of an action game as opposed to a Resi title.Yeah to be fair they've changed SO much with Resi5, they may aswell have changed the last remaining classic Resi thing left!

The setting never really grabbed me. Not sure why. I did absolutely love the WiiMote use. I suck at aiming normally. I'll definitely rent it.
Choze Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Accoridng to people who have the game. Its half the length of RE4 and not as interesting in level design. Story is better though apparently. Capcom holding back stuff for DLC?
Dante Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Yeah to be fair they've changed SO much with Resi5, they may aswell have changed the last remaining classic Resi thing left! Yeah RE5 has two puzzles and RE4 had nine. Meristation Review: 8/10 + story, fan service plot. + graphics and sound + coop mode, fun and intense + atmospheric + nice extras - game play feels old (tank controls) - straightforward levels from A to B, no exploring - almost no puzzles - RE4 reused

Capcom holding back stuff for DLC? That doesn't sound right. RE4 was the perfect length. Half the length just sounds was too short.
RoadKill Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Yeah why is that when the PS3 is supposedly slightly superior? The GPU is less powerful, with less memory available to either the RAM or the CPU at one time at full speed. The main thing people argue for as being "superior" is the Cell Broadband Engine, however the Cell processor is fucking useless for general purpose tasks such as games, and you need to code concurrent threads to run on each unit of the Cell to get the most speed from it - that is to say, stuff that doesn't often translate so easily to game coding. The Cell also has a single 3.2GHz PowerPC core, which I'd put good money on being loaded most of the time while the rest of the cell stays dormant. As for the 360? It has 3x regular 3.2GHz PowerPC cores, which don't need as specialised code to write for. The 360 is always going to be the superior platform performance wise in games, but you can be comfortably winning at Folding@Home with the PS3

That was adequately glorious. Ah, you don't get good old fashioned burns like that anymore. Sorry..forgot there was a topic to this thread. Yeah, I'll be getting this, but not for a few months. SF4 is still taking up most of my 360 time.

Gio001 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I've preordered this from game online, steelbook version, couldn't resist. Does the payment & the reward points go on when the game is despatched ? ( need to know how cheap i can get Madworld for ) Also if you use standard postage does it still usually arrive before launch day ? Cheers in anticipo'
