Goron_3 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 The interesting thing is that if you snip away a paragraph or two and change a few numbers, it could well be a review of RE4. Anyway, I've had more fun with the demo than the entirety of Gears of War 2 so it's fair to say that I'm going to enjoy the full game. And I can't believe people are still complaining that you can't move and shoot at the same time; it's a rule the game is built around, just like not being able to pick up the ball in football. it's the rule Resi is built on, yes, but this game is more of an action game as opposed to a Resi title.
Retro_Link Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 it's the rule Resi is built on, yes, but this game is more of an action game as opposed to a Resi title.Yeah to be fair they've changed SO much with Resi5, they may aswell have changed the last remaining classic Resi thing left!

The setting never really grabbed me. Not sure why. I did absolutely love the WiiMote use. I suck at aiming normally. I'll definitely rent it.
Dante Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Yeah to be fair they've changed SO much with Resi5, they may aswell have changed the last remaining classic Resi thing left! Yeah RE5 has two puzzles and RE4 had nine. Meristation Review: 8/10 + story, fan service plot. + graphics and sound + coop mode, fun and intense + atmospheric + nice extras - game play feels old (tank controls) - straightforward levels from A to B, no exploring - almost no puzzles - RE4 reused
Daft Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Accoridng to people who have the game. Its half the length of RE4 and not as interesting in level design. Story is better though apparently. Capcom holding back stuff for DLC? That doesn't sound right. RE4 was the perfect length. Half the length just sounds was too short.
RoadKill Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Yeah why is that when the PS3 is supposedly slightly superior? The GPU is less powerful, with less memory available to either the RAM or the CPU at one time at full speed. The main thing people argue for as being "superior" is the Cell Broadband Engine, however the Cell processor is fucking useless for general purpose tasks such as games, and you need to code concurrent threads to run on each unit of the Cell to get the most speed from it - that is to say, stuff that doesn't often translate so easily to game coding. The Cell also has a single 3.2GHz PowerPC core, which I'd put good money on being loaded most of the time while the rest of the cell stays dormant. As for the 360? It has 3x regular 3.2GHz PowerPC cores, which don't need as specialised code to write for. The 360 is always going to be the superior platform performance wise in games, but you can be comfortably winning at Folding@Home with the PS3
The Bard Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Sorry Choze, I forgot you have trouble with objectivity. Here, I'll do a different post just for you: The slowdown in the PS3 version just makes things more dramatic, like slow motion! It let's you take in all the details of the graphics that are only made possible due to the Power Of PlayStation, unlike on the 360 where everything's just black. Also having to install the game means that you have some time to read the manual and brush up on some important information; I bet none of the Xbots know that Sheva Alomar's blood type is AB! That was adequately glorious. Ah, you don't get good old fashioned burns like that anymore. Sorry..forgot there was a topic to this thread. Yeah, I'll be getting this, but not for a few months. SF4 is still taking up most of my 360 time.

Post of the year, m'boy! Granted, it's still March, but so far, it stands tall as champion.
Gio001 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I've preordered this from game online, steelbook version, couldn't resist. Does the payment & the reward points go on when the game is despatched ? ( need to know how cheap i can get Madworld for ) Also if you use standard postage does it still usually arrive before launch day ? Cheers in anticipo'

Seriously, it's extra 15£ or whatever for a tin case, a terrible figurine, a fucking mail bag, a lame cloth patch and an extra disc of drivel!

Sheikah Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Steelbook version is lame! Don't!!!! Seriously, it's extra 15£ or whatever for a tin case, a terrible figurine, a fucking mail bag, a lame cloth patch and an extra disc of drivel! Everyone take note of these words...and it's not often I agree with him. You would essentially be paying a chunk extra for a sandwhich tin, some trinkets and a few videos taken while the devs were making the game. They bring these versions out to make money off chumps all the time, and it works.
jayseven Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I've been avoiding this thread as much as possible, but the above post made me look at the previous page a little... Half the time as RE4? That doth suck. That's like, 10 hours of play? I'm pretty sure Shorty was able to get through RE4 in, like, two hours. But then I think I can get through RE2 in one... Hopefully the co-op element and the Mercenaries (have I remembered that right?) stuff, I imagine, will be beefed up to RE4? Well in any case, my cope of the game (along with a shiny new red xbox :P) is on its way, probably arrive tomorrow or thursday!
Esequiel Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Well in any case, my cope of the game (along with a shiny new red xbox :P) is on its way, probably arrive tomorrow or thursday! I can pick mine up at midnight on Thursday ^^ We need a thread i think... Post your red elites :P
Oxigen_Waste Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Well i guess i can see why you were trying to attack me for no reason. Which is pretty much what Aimless also just did there. I "attacked" you? When? (Seriously, I dunno what you're talking about). Besides, I loved his post because it satirizes your attitude towards the PS3 to perfection. The same way I love it when people make fun of my "black and white" views on quality standards. : peace:
Aimless Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to insinuate, but then I get the impression that nor are you. Anyway, from what I'm hearing the game lasts anywhere between 10-15 hours, with the majority of players falling somewhere in between. Obviously I wouldn't say no to the game being longer, but as this is the generation of 8 hour games RE5's relative brevity when compared to its predecessor shouldn't come as a huge surprise; those hi-res environments don't texture themselves. Speaking of which the typically anal platform comparison article is up on Eurogamer. It's quite interesting if you're at all into the technical side, although the conclusions it reaches have been written on the wall for some time: go where your friends are. Edit: Based on some some premature Trophy listings it would appear that a fairly expansive multiplayer update isn't too far off. I would assume that 'Survivors' and its team variant are similar to GoW2's Horde mode, the 'Slayers' modes are going to be a competitive spin on Mercenaries, and 'Versus' will be some form of player-on-player deathmatch; at a guess I'd say it would be similar to the Left4Dead mode, with one team playing as humans and the other taking the roles of special infected — i.e. the executioner or chainsaw guy. not_so_tiny Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Well in any case, my cope of the game (along with a shiny new red xbox :P) is on its way, probably arrive tomorrow or thursday! J7, did you get an email from Game letting you know it was dispatched. I've been refreshing my email every half an hour hoping for confirmation that my lovely red Elite is coming.
jayseven Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Nope Even got up 'early' (10.30) just in case. Delivery status is still "picked and packed" or whatever. Been that way for two days, so I guess the 'picking' is a very careful and deliberate process. I should've sent them a picture of me, or a list of my hobbies, so they could finely match me with my perfect partner xbox. I've just realised they never processed my order for a game reward card, and they've taken the money, so I've missed an easy chance for £14! Annyoyoyoy
Diageo Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Please tell me you two don't have an xbox already before buying this new red one!
