  1. It's funny how hard CGI dates like it does. Even LOTR looks a bit shonkey nowadays. Films that use it to enhance rather than replicate generally do far better. Scott Pilgrim, for example, is a film that uses a lot of CGI but I don't see it looking dated in a few years time because, fundamentally, the footage is actually on film too. Similarly, old Sci-Fi like Alien still look amazing because the special effects are solid and believable. Anything they couldn't do flat out, they replaced with canny camera work and shadows. If you watch Aliens now, it's amazing how well they create the sense of a swarm without actually showing all that many xenomorphs on screen- those that they do are often shown in cut shots where it's basically an animatronic head, then a cut.
  2. Yeah that's what I like about him- even with his powers being so minor at best, he's still shoulder to shoulder with Iron Man and has the full respect of an actual Norse God. Even amongst his peers, he's legendary. I think they're on the right track calling the film The First Avenger because that's so key to his modern characterisation; he was the worlds first super hero and, displaced in time, is this living inspiration to all the people he lives amongst.
  3. ooh, Torchlight! Nice.
  4. Man, I'm actually quite looking forward to this one. I used to hate Captain America (I mean, really? that's the name and costume you're going with?) but more recently he's been shaped in to a really interesting character with a lot more going on than was ever envisioned during his days of commie bashing fisticuffs. He's a really interesting take on symbolism and myth in super hero comics now, so hopefully they'll capture some of that essence in the film. Also, there's something very cool about his powers. Being just one step above normal humans makes him quite exciting in an action sequence in a similar way to, say, Wolverine or Spider-Man but also more vulnerable. It's a great mix.
  5. Happy birthday dude!
  6. The steering is a bit weird- at least at first. I had loads of trouble, all my cornering sucked and I generally made a pigs ear of the whole debacle. Then it clicked when I got my hands on the Mclaren f1- something in that course / car combo forced me in to a new mindset and it came together pretty well after that. It's all about getting a feel for the mass of the car, the pull of the brakes and the rhythm of the racing line. Another thing is that, unlike Burnout, it's as much about holding back from a powerslide as it is pulling a sick slide out.
  7. Hemsworth is freakin huge in Thor, it's absolutely ridiculous. Evans definitely looks the part though- Athletic as much as he is ripped, I think they've got that 'human, only more' thing just right. Hopefully when he's with Hemsworth in The Avengers he'll look suitably humble by comparison. Thor should tower over everyone else on screen.
  8. Peter Parker is a douche
  9. That'd be Fopp, which was my favourite shop of all time until it closed.
  10. It's mostly about content and patches. I play WOW and that gets a balance patch once a month or so, plus content patches every three months I think (each one being pretty huge, story driven and more like expansion packs for other games). It's not so much that you're paying for servers per se, but that the game constantly evolves and expands as you play.
  11. HMV is literally the only shop in Sheffield city centre that sells CDs now. I'll be fucking pissed if that closes- just because it'll make it impossible for me to go out and buy music. There's Meadowhall, but Meadowhall is an Pit of Obsidian Hate and must be avoided/ Purged by Fire if at all possible.
  12. ...I'd keep a spare knocking around if I was Cap
  13. Seconded, yo.
  14. I heard on the radio earlier that there's actually a 'dark sky' park in Northern Scotland now- it's basically a special destination with markedly clear night skies without light pollution and so on where you can get your astronomy on. Quite a cool idea I thought.
  15. Was there any particular significance to the countdown or was it just a thing heading for the ending?
  16. Yeah me neither. I don't find them that compelling other than as a monstrous group of antagonists, which are always fun.
  17. CAD is basically a force for pure evil in the world. I absolutely despise it. And yes, I judge you personally if you like it. It's just the absolute worst 'humour' I think I've ever come across. It has no punch, wit or timing whatsoever. And it's produced by an egotistical, vapid shithead of the highest grade who is so clearly obsessed by an overwhelming sense of inflated self importance that it beggers belief. And the 'story!' Oh my fucking lord above it's dire. Just total rancid shit all round, really.
  18. Both very cool. Nice find
  19. Hahaha yeah that was shit. In fact, it's why I refuse to go to town this year.
  20. oyh, hey, I have plans or whatever. Wahey. No effort ftw!
  21. I have...no plans. I have an absolutely terrible track record with NYE and generally have a miserable time. One might suggest I have beef with the whole thing. Ergo, pub may be visited but I'm certainly not going out and have no intention whatsoever of partying till late. Forced joviality can bite my ass.
  22. Ding 85 and yeah, that 9 million xp went in an afternoon or two of light gaming. It's not the marathon an out of content large number suggests when you get 55,000 + per quest.
  23. Yeah that's the one I think. It's interesting work- especially with regards to diets and so on where people are desperate to loose weight and end up on guilt trips, mashing down a dirty great chocolate elcairé on the sofa.
