  1. I think Rosberg is overhyped and gets half his fame from his dad. Half of the F1 drivers out there are better than him, no way McLaren would sign him. Alonso might not like his position in the championship at the moment, but at Renault he does have a team that will do anything for him. He's now in roughly the same situation as he was in 2004 with Renault, scoring points nearly every race, with the occasional podium. We all know what happened the year after that - and Alonso knows too. I think he might give Renault another shot next year.
  2. I'm basing this on some Dhrystone and Whetstone benchmarks I saw just when the 360 came out. The source is probably expired, but the point was that a single Xenon core was matched by a Pentium IV-class Celeron clocked at 1.7 GHz at the time. Without going to go into too much detail Dhrystone/Whetstone are cross-CPU benchmarks that test pure computationial power. Because the GameCube already outperformed the 733 MHz Pentium 3-class Celeron in the Xbox, and the performance is supposedly doubled in the Wii, the Wii CPU should be able to get close to that 360 performance. It's really not surprising the 360 did bad, as the 360 CPU was designed to use all its three cores for multithreaded programming, which is a different league entirely. You've got to trust me here, no reason why I would be making it up. Of course, it's going to be a Wii game after all. I still think we're going to see respectable amounts of zombies, as otherwise this game would be a bit pointless to announce. Yeah well, that's like saying a Pentium IV and a Phenom can be compared on clockspeed. The difference between the Wii CPU and the 360 CPU could hardly get bigger. I just read Pedro pointed out that Dead Rising did use all three cores, making it somewhat pointless, as the Wii is going to struggle with those numbers Point is, don't stare blind at the numbers. That 3.2 GHz is achieved with tricks and sacrifices. In a sense, the Wii CPU is more 'complete' than the 360 CPU- it's just beaten by brute force.
  3. A single core of the 360 is roughly equivalent to a Pentium 4 @ 1.7 GHz (its single core performance is apparently dead awful). The GameCube CPU was roughly equivalent to a Pentium 3 @ 800 MHz, and the Wii version is estimated to nearly nouble that. Suppose the Wii CPU is equivalent to a Pentium 3 @ 1.4 GHz, which is not really an optimistic estimation, it'll have the power to draw a huge number of zombies for sure. Early 360 games looked great as they did because the GPU is a beast. That's where the Wii will definitely be outclassed, especially considering the amount of effort that's going to be done.
  4. I'm not quite sure if it's true for the GeForce 4, but I read that the latest nVidia drivers caused major bugs and artifacting in older GeForce chips. You might want to downgrade. The other major problem could be that the GeForce 4 is DirectX 8 and the game needs 9. How much money do you want to spend on a new card? The best you can get is an AGP Radeon 3850 by Sapphire for roughly 70 pounds. Then there is the Radeon 2600XT for about 40, and the Radeon 2400Pro for about 25. Each should be able to play that game. Seems like ATI is the only of the two to release recent chipset graphics cards for AGP boards.
  5. Those power bars are nonsense. 2 GB wouldn't hurt though.
  6. Was I the only one thinking "not another masturbation thread"? Anyways, I want to get a good fun makes-me-happy job. I'll probably turn into an alcoholic in a few years, live in the big city, and make a good happy life for myself.
  7. I think this is a real sleeper hit. I really love its presentation.
  8. Why does every 'Zelda' fan putting so much effort in hoaxes actually want a LOTR game? This is far from a Zelda game. And why can't they ever spell
  9. Screens are nice. I'm happy as long as it doesn't turn into a casual game with added artificial retardity.
  10. You have an HDMI port on your TV? You can get a 360 HDMI cable, which makes room for your Wii.
  11. It's about time! Uptil now we could use the "Wii young console" argument, but it's lost it's strength for some months now. Here's good hope we see a lot more effort at E3 from developers.
  12. Seems pretty awesome! Hope they pull of a good job on the Wii as well.
  13. Even though it's really turning out to be a generic sci-fi shooter, it looks ****ing ace
  14. Ecclestone's really way too powerful, and he's being a real bitch with the sport to be honest. But I doubt Silverstone's issue is the money really. Don't know how Hungary could come up with the money, or even the Belgian GP's organisation.
  15. It's such a shame really, Silverstone is a great circuit. It's not even that high speed, but it's the only high speed track besides Monza we've got left! I really doubt Ecclestone's trying to get rid of the British Grand Prix. What would be next? The Monaco Grand Prix?

    Change

I was 15 or so when I joined N-E. I pretty much did all my growing up since then, big change there. Also, yeah, I hate when the people behind the till do that. It just isn't practical!
  17. Seems right to me. The wireless at my parents gives me 1 MB tops. There's some distance and walls between the two. Maybe that setup is too slow as well?
  18. Be careful, I doubt that you'd really need a 8800GT or 4850. Your CPU is pretty old, I doubt it'd make much of a difference if you went beyond a 3850 or 9600GT. Dunno what the prices are, but I doubt your computer could utilise the 4850 fully so you might as well go a bit cheaper. As for the RAM, any 2x 1 GB DDR400 set would make a pretty big boost
  19. Installed AVG 8 just now and it seems to work fine. I recommend googling to find how you install it without the LinkScanner feature, as apparently that makes a performance hit.
  20. To be honest it's tempting but a bit shortsighted. I mean you can be careful, but for all you know you're part of some botnet that takes part in DDOS attacks or send massive amounts of spam. It may not affect you, but irresponsible people running Windows without protection software are affecting other users daily. Keyloggers and the likes aren't really going to be noticable on your system either. Your last virus warning being years ago doesn't mean there's no infection on your system... Especially considering you don't have anything that would warn you turned on.
  21. What's up with all the Federer support? I'd like to see a change for once and have Nadal winning. One guy reigning supreme in a sport is far from great, Fed's worse than Schumi at the moment.
  22. I sort of hope it happens, but then again I guess it'll be dissappointing. These guys are old and money hungry now, and you can't make a sitcom in a movie. Sex and the City was much less a traditional sitcom compared to Friends.
  23. The 4850 is a wee slower than the 9800GTX (but cheaper). In AnandTech's benchmark, the 4870 won all but two of quite some benchmarks of a regular GTX 260. I'm tempted to buy one of those, but I'm afraid I don't really have the money. But yeah Vicar, you can get one of those just fine. It's just a different chip, no worries about compability.
  24. Totally lame rainy day day. Got to see the ending of How I Met Your Mother though! Damn, why are these season endings so damn exciting... And why do they only start again in October? Off to partay in Utrecht tonight, should be awesome!
