  1. Yup, absolutely. They'd make way more money that way.
  2. The forums get hotly defensive when Nintendo isn't doing well. That's pretty much the problem.
  3. People get that spark to buy a console if there's a game they want, while also knowing in the future there'll be games they want to play. The days aren't over, just there hasn't been such a game recently. Either way, the existing install base weren't grabbing it at release en masse, which is more or less what developers would want to see since they want their titles to chart well.
  4. That's a big problem with having one company produce nearly all the (worthwhile) games on the system, I think. Too many staff and they have issues, too few staff and quality games aren't released frequently enough to satisfy most consumers.
  5. Well obviously they shouldn't have made the gamepad. And without the technical overhaul they weren't appealing to the core. In fact they didn't really appeal that well to either with this. Again third parties leaving Nintendo is entirely Nintendo's fault. Nintendo did not reach out to devs to make their console suit them, nor did they power it enough to allow easy cross platform porting.
  6. I just don't see why they can't challenge themselves to make a console both core and casual would like, rather than it usually being one or the other. Microsoft with the 360 and Kinect is a good example of having a relevant HD console while also satisfying the casuals. Regarding the originality, I would say these days Nintendo are actually being over-appreciated. Many of their games closely ascribe to formulas carved out generations ago, but simply because other developers don't offer exactly the same type of games they are still considered original. I guess I'm questioning how many conserved sequels are needed until a game series is no longer considered imaginative. Perhaps stale is a better term to use than unoriginal.
  7. Yup, the Wii Homebrew channel let you load many functional emulators all of which ran the games flawlessly. SNES9X for instance was superb. With a good emulator then there's really nothing to fine tune. But again, SM3DW wasn't something people were rushing out to buy the Wii U for, nor were many existing Wii U owners eager to get it. It wasn't a good message.
  8. I know, I pointed that out to Serebii before that SNES/NES emulation at least has been totally perfected. They aren't releasing any more SNES or NES games - perfect emulation has long since been achieved. I'm pretty sure he knows that Nintendo elves aren't tinkering away at each title hence the staggered release, but he'll keep telling us if anyway. :p If they really wanted they could have all their SNES and NES games up in less than a month.
  9. Well nothing bad happened to me at least (and I didn't detect anything happening to me other than what I touched on before).
  10. It's a nice sentiment but in practice it does not reflect well. Any company wants their games to chart highly upon release, and on top of that, if the best game on the system shifts somewhat mediocre numbers upon release then it sends a pretty bad message. If people are buying the system for mostly Nintendo games and people aren't exactly pushing and shoving to get the best one then third parties aren't going to be filled with confidence about how their games would fare. A few other things to bear in mind - Knack is very poor and SMW is excellent, and that SMW got a rather weighty discount shortly after its release over here (£30 or so, although not sure if it was temporary). Most PS4 games remain around £50.
  11. Nah, the next step would be SSDs used to store and run digital games (and they are getting cheaper all the time). In the future anyway. Surely when they made the Wii about as graphically powerful as the gamecube they were opting for the 'simple and cheap' approach? We can't pretend Nintendo like a challenge in that department when they seem content to stay how they are in terms of online and graphical horsepower, really. No doubt they liked a challenge in creating the Wii remote and Gamepad, but they certainly weren't challenging themselves when creating the core consoles (and more recently: in game originality).
  12. The thing is though, Nintendo have little else other than Nintendo games on their console and you'd expect this to be the one game that lots of Wii U owners wanted to get hold of when it came out - a must have system seller, somewhat akin the 'GTA' of the console. Except it wasn't, and here at least initially bested in sales by Knack. Yes, it went on to sell reasonably, but it sure doesn't help the dev perception that neither the console nor its games are faring well.
  13. If Nintendo really wanted third party support they'd have made a console that third parties wanted to develop for, and they'd have asked third parties what they wanted in a console. Even if they're not saying totally outrageous things about third parties anymore, their actions are still not those of a company that really want third party support.
  14. Actually not really, I'm sure those two consoles will still be supported for at least a couple of years (unlike the Wii U which has lost almost all of its support already). The PS3 and 360 still shift loads of copies of games - they will NOT lose their new titles any time soon. Plus those consoles are last generation and have a vast library of great games to make up for them being in the last few years of life (as well as the systems and their games being dirt cheap). Wii U is the current generation so there's no real excuse for it.
  15. Because it's a better game? Did you also tell him that any future sequels to those games he loves have a cat in hell's chance of coming to the Wii U, and that had he been gaming years ago he could have played most of these games way before they even hit the Wii U? It sounds to me that you live too much in the moment. "The Wii U has all these games that the last gen consoles have! It's better!" - Yeah, ok, but what about the near future? Your test is also incredibly skewed given you only have the Wii U. If you had, say, a Wii U and a PS3, as well as the top 10 rated games on each console, I very much doubt the Wii U would come out on top as having more exclusive games. Also poor kid. Can't play with his friends now. :p
  16. Some points on that: - A lot of the small pool of existing Wii U owners aren't even buying the games (e.g. NSM3DW). And that was a Nintendo game. So really, if you're a third party dev, it's hardly encouraging news. - Many Wii / Wii U owners interested in third party games end up getting a competitor console also, so multiformat games reaching Nintendo consoles isn't such a big deal to them. - A console that people aren't buying because they don't want is not a lucrative 'money on the table' business opportunity. Ca'maan. No way. And it's out-spec'd by the other consoles - future titles will require extra work to produce a separate nerfed Wii U version, as well as potentially extra effort screwing around with gamepad support. Which means even less chance of multiformat games reaching the Wii U.
  17. I think there is a generous portion of denial about these forums, and the defensiveness throughout this post pretty much highlights it. If Nintendo changed their attitude towards third parties since the N64 era it was from really bad to bad, and then bad to utterly attrocious. Which isn't really a change, truth be told. I think the main thing to take from this article is that whatever was said 10 years ago almost still seems to be believed/in effect this present day, or maybe even the present day situation could be blamed on these choices made/beliefs held back then.
  18. To the Moon is on the Humble Bundle. No excuse guys... buy the bundle if you haven't already.
  19. Having just purchased a Bravia (not yet come) it did sound pretty exciting that games could stream right to it. No idea whether it would support existing models though, or be a feature of future models. In other news, I just got another 21 quid off the price of the TV after having bought it through price match. Cha ching.
  20. What was the manner in which you were blocked?
  21. Yeah which is why I called it out.
  22. No I'm not claiming anything of the sort. I am saying that you are short sighted for calling people suckers for buying a PS4 now when it will obviously receive a lot of third party support in years to come, as opposed to the Wii U which will receive next to nothing.
  23. Pretty easy. You take the motherboard out of the box, then slot on the RAM, graphics card, processor, then splotch a bit of thermal paste on the top of the processor and place the processor cooler on top (followed by some screwing it in place on the board). Screw the motherboard into the designated holes on the case. Then you screw the PSU into place against the case. The Antec case has screwless installation so hard drives, DVD drives and SSDs don't need screwing in, just slotting. Then it's a case of hooking up cables supplied with your PSU from the PSU to individual drives and components (they're pretty clearly labeled).
  24. Ah come on, it's all in good humour. No one is attacking him at all.
  25. Brilliant. :p Didn't he say he was a games journalist?
