I've put about 35 hours into it and I was sceptical at first but after the first 10 hours, it really drew me in. Thing is, once you have saved the NPCs from the dungeon, they start doing stuff in the lobby and that can give you stronger weapons earlier in the dungeon, thus making it easier to progress. That's what really lured me in - and now I'm able to go to the fourth and fifth level almost every time. Never beat the boss of the fifth level, though, but been there a couple of times. It's difficult but keeping it cool and not being reckless (and not dodge rolling!) can get you very far. I am going to go back to it now with the new update, it's truly a wonderful game that gives and gives if you put the effort into it.

I think it looks great and by all accounts it's easily worth the asking price but its a roguelike so I doubt i'll be able to enjoy it. Here are the bonus points that each person got through the "Co-op Grand Prix" Random Task this week. Isn't it nice when people get along and everyone gets points for doing so? It's always nice to foster a feeling of... Wait, why has @martinist got a question mark? I maaayyyy have not divulged all of the information of this week's task. I could explain, but it'd be easier if I just show you the Private Message I sent to @martinist And if you would kindly look at the third GP, you'll see that out of the 4 people who were above @martinist in the League Table, he managed to beat @RedShell, @Nintendo Fan and @BowserBasher. Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark. At least their co-op partners (@S.C.G, @viceview51 and @Gourmet / Esperpento) also benefit. Here are the actual bonus points from this week's task. And so here's the League table now. Well, that certainly shook things up. Lots of movement throughout the board. But not much else to say about this. Next League Night: 2nd August 8pm Room 1: @BowserBasher is host @Glen-i @BowserBasher @viceview51 @martinist @RedShell @Gourmet / Esperpento I mentioned this last week, but I'll remind you all. If you're going to take part in the 2nd August theme, I need you to send me a Private Message with a Character/Vehicle Setup. That's it, easy, huh? You see, each one of your suggestions will then get randomly distributed to someone taking part for that night. It could even be you who has to use it! Do you go for a setup that's good for you, or do you go for one that's absolutely horrid with the risk of being lumbered with it? That's up to you. So get your PM's to me as soon as you can. EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention that @BowserBasher is the one who suggested this idea. Sign up Now!

I started this yesterday and am loving it so far. I've decided to just go clockwise around the map, and so have got Olberic, Primrose and Alfyn. OK, I can see some potential reasons why I won't end up thinking it's a 10/10, but then I wasn't that grabbed by the demos anyway (which is why I was 50/50 about buying it). For what it's worth, as much as I love pixel art, the great thing about those genuine 16-bit RPGs was that they used the best visuals they could muster to immersive you in a consistent world. Octopath Traveler's playable sprites are gorgeous, but I'm less keen on the small graphics, dark lighting and diorama-type settings. It's a subtle thing, but for me it's the difference between "art" and "arty". BUT, I am hooked. I'm actually enjoying it more than the demos. The battle system seems a step-up from Bravely Default, and I'd say so far it's easily the best turn-based RPG on Switch (if not, I want to know what is!) Buying new skills and passive buffs with Job Points is very addictive, and Olberic is turning into the tank I want. However much I end up liking it, for now I can't stop playing!

Yeah I went to backup and the funny thing was, I realised I don't really have a lot of important data these days not on my OS drive anyway. 18 year old me would've been having a heart attack at all the work, music, writing, designs etc that could've been lost. But now it's like "eh, all my sites are on git, all my game saves are in the cloud" etc

Couldn’t find a thread for this, so figured I’d make one. Anyway, I finally picked it up recently in the sale. This is one of those games that’s impossible to complete unless you’re a wizard or something, right? I think the furthest I’ve got is to the 3rd floor, and I’m still not sure how I even managed that. The worst thing is when you get absolutely no weapons at all on the first floor and then have to face a boss with the pea shooter. Anyone else playing?

I’ve been putting the points towards all of my Switch eShop purchases. No reason not to really when there’s nothing else to spend them on!

I absolutely cannot stand this heat. I've always loved the cold, so this sucks royally. Next year is god damn air con, I don't care how much the electric bill is.

My friend recommended this to me a while ago and said it was pretty much the best roguelike. I was tempted but unsure, so only bought it when it was discounted the other day. I sort of like it, but yes, it is difficult. As strange as it sounds, I get the feeling it's not quite as hard as it seems (I've only got to the 2nd or 3rd floor as well!), or more accurately, I could get better at it. I really want to use a Pro controller, as you have to bash L and R, and there are also moments when you have to press the left and right analogue sticks at the same time - not something I'm entirely comfortable about doing in handheld mode. The trouble with roguelikes is that, by their very nature, they don't let you prepare. You have to work everything out in your current run (there are no real save files, only quicksaves). Although this game doesn't ask much strategy of you (there is no crafting on the go, for instance), it's hard to know which items are the best to collect. The shops have also been stocking items I genuinely don't think would have been possible to afford at that point, even if I'd been saving all the money potentially available. I might go back to it every now and then, but as with most roguelikes, I'm left hoping there will be even more updates to the game.

I finally bought it during the Steam summer sale but haven't had a chance to play it properly yet with this heat. Cant turn my PC on for longer than 30 minutes without turning the room into an oven.

I can imagine. Loading time is pretty much one of the most important things to get right on Switch, long or frequent load screens completely go against one of the main concepts of the console, not to mention the cartridge format.

Nintendo have always been stingy when it comes to discounting their games. Unless one of their titles absolutely bombs (Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.) then they usually don't budge on their original price.

Bolded is the only reason why you got it on PS4 Tempted to get it myself but at 20€ it's a bit steep right now for me, especially since I ordered Prey recently and because I'm in a gaming lull.

My copy arrived yesterday and I manged to put a couple of hours into last night. The game ain't great. The amount of loading times between areas and mini games is shocking. While they aren't stupidly long ( about 5-7 secs ) the sheer amount of them is very annoying. The camera controls are very limited but haven't been updated for the Switch. I was trying to rotate the camera around with the right stick but apparently you can't even do that. I was hoping that when playing in portable mode or with a pro controller that there would be no motion controls but this isn't the case. I was trying to play a bungie jump mini game where you have to flick the joycons up at just the right time. Trying to do this in portable mode is ridiculous because it takes a stupid amount of movement to actually pull off. The last thing you want to do is start waving your Switch around the place. I even tried it in TV mode and even then the motion controls were sketchy at best. They haven't really put a lot of effort into porting this over which is a shame because the base idea is a pretty good one but the execution of it is awful. While not a fully priced game, it is still £30 and even though i've only put 2 hours into it, I can safely say that there are far better games on the eShop that cost a fraction of this price. Methinks this will be getting traded in very soon.

While I agree the preparation time overall should me vastly reduced (especially the waiting time before rounds, that should be 10 seconds max), people need some time to select characters, especially when you want a balanced team. Anyway I'm enjoying it, so I'll keep playing it.

I'm done as well. Thanks for the games @RedShell @Glen-i @Ugh first aid.

You're on to me! Nah, I was still level 3. I guess the hero shooter genre just isn't for me. I much prefer something simple like CoD, at least when the do actually keep it simple.

Aaaaand Paladins has been deleted from my Switch. The insane loading and countdown timers are a dealbreaker. If they ever manage to speed things up I might return to it. But yeah, really not sure why there has to be an entire minute just to choose a character, followed by a few more seconds to “customise it” (which for most people means do nothing ) and then yet another timer before battle, purely for faffing about/wasting even more time. The whole thing is in need of some serious streamlining! It makes the unskipable intro and lobby system of Splatoon 2 look lightning fast.

My rediscovery of 3DS continues (as I wait for WarioWare to arrive) yesterday saw me playing some Mario Golf & Tennis. Man, it’s just embarrassing how barebones Aces is compared to the 3DS titles! Both of those games (especially golf) have so much cool gear to unlock and great mini-games too. How the hell did they not bring back Super Mario Tennis for the Switch game?! That alone would’ve made a big difference to the very lacking single player experience in Aces. I think it was also a bad idea to drop Miis and the customisation features. I mean all that stuff is already part of the 3DS games, they literally just had to tidy it up a bit (if that) and bring it over to Switch. I suppose there’s at least some hope that a potential Mario Golf on Switch could see the return of some of that stuff, golf is definitely the better of the two 3DS titles, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see a similar situation happen on Switch. Even so, I really think they should look at patching in some stuff to Aces before doing anything else, outside of multiplayer that game is a serious letdown.

Hori's recently released their blue Joy-Con over in Japan (the one that has the proper d-pad on it) and it looks like it's heading to the West but with some different designs. IGN have just shown both these off. Like the original blue model, these only work in handheld mode. They are set to release in September.

I can't stop smiling! This game is indeed pure gold. Sure I've seen a lot of it before, but there are also many surprises, even for a WarioWare nut like me. In fact it's really fun just seeing how the old microgames have been spruced up or altered for this version. And the presentation is just so good. Loving the new style of cutscenes with voice acting, lots of laugh out loud moments from those already. And they even snuck baby face SFX into the menu music.

I also approve of this heat. It is a bit much, but I definitely prefer it to the grey, dreary weather we normally get. Everything just looks better when it's sunny. Plus, have you seen my legs in shorts? Dem gams doe. Our front lawn is completely dead, which is a bit of a bummer. Not so much that I'll actually bother watering it though.

Hotter is better! I grew up in hot countries, so it reminds me of my carefree childhood, running around in the sun.

I think it looks great and by all accounts it's easily worth the asking price but its a roguelike so I doubt i'll be able to enjoy it. The same goes for Dead Cells which is out soon. It looks amazing but the genre just doesn't sit well with me.

Sadly I’ve finally spent them all, so I’m never getting that title back... Damn you Nintendo for finally giving me something to spend my damn coins on!
