Look, I'm not here for reasonable discussion. I'm here to demand my boi Waluigi get recognised as the Nintendo royalty that he is.

Played one game of this last night. 50 Vs 50. Won it. I guess you could say I'm pretty good. I actually built a huge tower, fell off it, then spent the rest of the match running from the boundary wall and healing myself. Still, a win is a win.

As this is finally out courtesy of a Saturn drop following Nintendo's E3 Direct, I thought it was worth creating a thread for what is a spectacular game. It's a metroidvania style game, leaning more on the Metroid side of things, with a fantastic visual style, great soundtrack and brilliant gameplay. And it's an absolute steal at £10.99 on the eshop, with all current DLC and the final one coming later this year. Team Cherry have done a fantastic job at bringing the game to the Switch. I've been playing it docked and it runs silky smooth so far. There are some areas when I played in the PC that suffered from some lag due to what was in those areas do it'll be interesting to see if the Switch version dodges that or not. So yeah, kudos to Team Cherry (and Shark Jump who helped) for bringing the game over to the Switch. There's a nice challenge with the game; in both playing it on the PC and now the Switch, I've never felt that it was too difficult but does offer up a decent challenge as you progress through certain areas. And I love the mechanic of being able to retrieve your ghost if you can navigate back to it and defeat it. If not, you lose all of your coins. I've managed to get back to roughly where I was on the PC version now and I'm pressing on to see what else lies within Hallownest. Really interested to hear the thoughts of those playing it. I'd certainly put it in a similar level to the likes of Guacamelee and Ori and the Blind Forest for how good the game is. Can't recommend it enough.

Haven’t seen anyone post the box art yet, so... ...very much worthy of the Ultimate name!

And yet the first game was 2019 😋 There's "focus" and then there's half the show. I think maybe they should have ended with some other stuff, as it felt like two unconnected Directs.

Ok, rewatching the trailer, reading some comments, and checking the info they released, I noticed a few things: There's a "formation" option on the action menu, meaning that troops may actually influence gameplay directly; "Magic" and "Attack" are different options, which is very curious. Usually, they're the same thing, with the exception being Fire Emblem Echoes (which had an entirely different system for items, equipment and magic). Seeing as we already saw weapon durability, it's unlikely this is a system like Echoes, so it's probably something entirely new. Maybe characters have healing/support spells, and the cleric/priest class has been discarded? Would make sense, if each character leads their army now; Other than Fódlan, we also have names like "Fergus", "Garg Mac" and "Leicester". Plus, you can see a tartan patter on a soldier for a couple of frames in one of the CGI scenes. The celtic theme is pretty much confirmed at this point; There are three important characters, one for each House... and they all have surnames. This is extremely rare for the FE series (there are 700+ characters in the series, and I think less than 10 of them had surnames up until now); One of the characters is clearly a player avatar... but they do not look like the main character at all. Rather, it's the lady called Edgelord Edelgard that seems to act like a protagonist during these scenes. Oh yeah, I'm excited for this game

R.O.B sold a damn load of NES consoles in America, which helped turn video games around after it's massive crash of the time. I wouldn't even dream of calling it a "failed accessory" @Daft Not to mention Wii Fit was bloody huge. It's a big point for the success of the Wii. Also, Wii Fit Trainer is great fun, with her random health tips telling you to not let your bottom stick out.

Of course easy to forget that Xbox exclusive Recore was advertised as from the developers of Metroid Prime, as well as Inafune, and that game was mediocrity personified! I loved the Metroid Prime trilogy, I have to say, all three were brilliant, and the DK games too, but clearly there was a moment going on at Retro which has been lost due to staff moving on or other issues.

Honestly, i've never held them in high regard. I'm not a fan of the Prime series and there's only Tropical Freeze that I consider a fantastic game from them. People tend to think of them as the new Rare but they aren't as half as good or valuable as those guys were. Rare pretty much kept a platform going on their own. You also have to remember that Rare were a fantastic developer long before Nintendo bought a chunk of them, whereas Retro Studios were a mess and Nintendo had to go in and clean up their mess. It's crazy that we've yet to see their new game yet. I'm going to assume that if it was 2018 surely it would have been shown at this years E3?

I expect we'll get an online focused Direct closer to launch that will go over some of this. And it being an online Nintendo thing I expect you'll have to rent the video from blockbuster.

ReZ makes an appearance! Megaton of E3 right there... Welcome back.

I've been think it since the Direct ended, we've got a gap between the release of Monster Hunter and Smash, so from the end of August till the start of December. Bar a smattering of games (FIFA 19, Just Dance 2019, Team Sonic Racing and Starlink), what else is there coming to the Switch? I feel like I'm missing something but surely if Nintendo had more first party games for that period, they should have been announced here (that might still happen over the course of E3) and if there are any more third party titles, then where are they. It's all a bit baffling go be honest. If I was looking at picking up the console right now, sure there are games to play right now but the line up of games (notwithstanding indie titles which will have a more focused direct either later this week or in the months to come) wouldn't exactly give me confidence going forward. Not trying to be negative but I just thought it odd give the slew of games coming in the autumn/winter for the other consoles and don't see why there's so little known about the schedule for the Switch for that period. As I say, I'm probably missing some games but it's definitely lacking towards the end of the year.

Bomberman totally killed in the disappointment there. 6 people getting screwed in the points department there. I'm gonna look through the screenshots of the websites to see if I can spot any other dreams to stamp on. Wasn't this the only way to get Jirachi back in the day? Also, couldn't the Manaphy egg only be obtained by buying and playing one of the Pokemon Ranger games? Let's not pretend this is something new. They've been getting players to buy other stuff to unlock special Pokemon for a long time now.

Not entirely sure where you heard that term, but I'm gonna assume it's the page on the Smash site showing off all 68 fighters so far.

Tripping was something that was in Brawl. Basically, your character would just fall over for no reason. Yay. Still torn on this game after reading and watching comments from people that played it yesterdays. It's very much a Smash 4.5 in terms of gameplay and the fighting engine but I think that's reasonable when you consider that starting from zero again would make it pretty damn difficult to include all the characters. Apparently they are keen for feedback so hopefully that gets listened to. Either way, this game will certainly kill the Smash 4 community and probably sit alongside Melee, but I was hoping it would take some inspiration from Melee too as opposed to playing like a modded Smash 4. That said, the Grand Finals of the Smash invitiation was quite exciting to watch! One thing that definitely feels like it needs work though is knockback momentum - characters seem to FLY off the stage at like 200mph after being hit by a move, but then they quite easily just float back. Not only do they love momentum but the gravity just feels...off.

Except for the absolutely heinous decision to not have Waluigi as a playable character, this looks great. I am super exited for it. And I actually pre-ordered it last week. I haven't played either of the last two Smash games, so this has a whole lot of new stuff for me. Can someone explain what everyone is talking about when they talk about 'tripping'? Also, what are Fighter Profiles?

Extremely whelmed by Nintendo's showing. Possibly slightly underwhelmed. Smash didn't look all that, and for me there are too many characters in it now. Melee had the right amount. No interest in Fire Emblem or Mario Party. Whole thing was a bit bleh.

I find that stepping away from the saturation of news and leaks is so much better an experience. I used to live on forums, back to the N64 days, but just keeping up with headlines and not spoiling things make you enjoy it and appreciate it more. Even reading theories or fake news items can still give you an expectation. Not saying anyone here is doing that, just my experience of the last 5-6 years.

Despite the game being penned as a 2018 release, in true S-E fashion it has been delayed until next year. Still, gives me extra time to work my way through the series again.

Update: Been offered a trial at da solicitors. Apparently the Partners were a bit concerned about my less-than-wealth of experience - but my boombastic typing skillz (actual legal term) convinced them to gimme a shot. So week on Monday I have until the end of the month to impress them to let me carry on until the end of the year, which hopefully will lead to something more permanent. Yay! I've had to cancel another agency meeting I was due to have at 3.30 and another which was TBC for next week. The latter have congratulated me and then asked me where I had been offered the opportunity - Although this may be curiosity on the part of the person I've been speaking to - I can't help but think of it as a potential form of sabotage. So haven't told them. The Download work is like reliving my Tesco/Sainsburys days all over again, although all the customers are calm because they're either off their tits on some sort of drugs, sober and wanting booze, or drunk and pretending to be low-key sober so they can buy booze. But some of the other agency people that work on nights with me - 12 in total - about half of them do fuck all, and the work they do is either stretched out way longer than it should be or they literally just stand there and watch you work. In the time it took 5-6 of them to work on one 3/4 full cage of stuff, I had taken 1 and 1/2 wooden pallets out of action and it looked fucking amazing. Then checking the stuff in the cage they didn't put out - I was able to get over half of that out. Some of the Co-op staff (when we got there on the first day they were pissed off their faces on Smirnoff Ice and San Miguel, and when they're sober might as well have neon signs that have "AGENCY STAFF: WE DO NOT TRUST YOU. PREPARE TO BE PATRONISED THE FUCK OUT OF) have come to call that half of the Agency people "The Nimrods"
