Don't necessarily like the way it looks on the side, but I do like how it looks standing upright. Weird, it looks nicer horizontal to me. Plus less chance of the disk getting damaged.

Might need to shuffle things around a bit and start using my lower shelf... Just don't do this... !!! 2

Happenstance Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 I've never had any consoles vertical either. I prefer the look of the PS5 horizontally but I think it'll fit nicer next to my TV vertically this time.
Will Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 It’s just so godamn ugly and squished in that cabinet makes it look even worse. When the first images of the dev kit came out I was really hoping they would go with a very different design for the final model but now I wish they’d just used that, or indeed ANYTHING else. 1
Ike Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 8 minutes ago, drahkon said: Explain? The 360 and PS3 at least were prone to scratching the disk if you had them vertical for some reason. I seem to recall Sony stopped selling the stand at one point, but it did happen to me once with my 360 scratching a game for no reason. Hopefully it's not a problem anymore. 1

Well...I'll still take the risk and have the PS5 in vertical-mode™
drahkon Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Might not mean a lot to many, but I kinda like it. I'm not the trophy-hunter I used to be but you can be sure that I will share clips of me getting a difficult Platinum

From what I recall it's because vertically its less stable so if it gets knocked/wobbles there's a greater chance of disturbing the disk drive or something leading to damaged disks. 1
Ganepark32 Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Just watched the full Astro's Playroom gameplay vid that IGN put up and man, it looks like a lot of fun. The perfect pack in for launching a system as its instantly accessible while people wait for installs and downloads and looks like it'll be a perfect showcase for the Dualsense. Loved all the little nods to various games throughout, like Until Dawn, God of War and Puppeteer to name a few (I really hope they give Puppeteer another try on the PS5 as it was a great little title at the end if the PS3's life that went largely unnoticed. The way they could use the haptic feedback for cutting through different materials would be a simple but nice use of that tech). Looking forward to playing it at launch while things download. Never had a chance to play the PSVR title but loved the look of it. Hopefully a sign there'll be more Astrobot to come. We knew the conse was going to be big for some time as the dimensions have been out there to get a gist of the size. Already know it won't be fitting in my TV unit vertically but I'm likely replacing the unit I have so I'll have that option with whatever I choose to replace it with. Sure its big bug as long as its quiet, I'll happily take that trade off.
S.C.G Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 eBay voucher code... POPUPOCT20 20% off, £15 minimum spend, max £75 discount, ends on Oct 29th, selected sellers only. Can be used on PS5 games, which I noticed when selecting the videogame category, I thought this would be worth posting here, in case anyone is buying games/accesories.
Dcubed Posted October 27, 2020 Author Posted October 27, 2020 That central bit is getting scratched to fuck within hours of buying it. Guaranteed.
Mr-Paul Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Whoah. That console is a beast! Did not expect it to be that much bigger than a PS4. Seeing unboxings makes the digital edition look that bit more appealing from an aesthetics/size point of view... but I'm still going for the disk version.

Just goes to show how effectively they kept us all on the hook in the lead up to last month's event (is it just me, or does that feel like it was ages ago?), and ready to jump on pre-orders as soon as they went up. Could they have communicated more effectively until now, in terms of what we were in for? Yeah, for sure. I think they bottled some of the messaging relating to last month's event (release dates for games, pre-order date and time for the console), and though I think a few of us here thought their backwards compatibility strategy was clear enough, it really shouldn't have been a question. If you're being competitive, as Xbox and PlayStation clearly are, why would you give so much as an inch to your competitor, even if it's only in the minds of a few? PlayStation have done a great job, no doubt, so crazy stats like these aren't too out there, though I am curious to see what the deal is going to be with stock, and especially in how many they're able to produce and sell by their end of the financial year. The demand is there, but will the supply be? We still haven't heard about that second wave of pre-orders yet, and we're just under a two and a half weeks from launch in the US.

I think as well we have to acknowledge what incredible work has been done this gen to lead up to this point. Namely all those exclusives that people are invested in and want to carry on playing through the next generation. What we are seeing with these preorder numbers and YouTube metrics is a crazy amount of demand for this console.I think COVID has had a positive impact on this too. People are at home way more so gaming has become a much more valued hobby in that regard. I think people are also happier to pay more money for tech these days thanks to phones. 1

Yeah, absolutely agree. They've absolutely killed it this gen. And not even just the first or third party exclusives this time around, too, but the timed exclusive deals, for example Final Fantasy VII Remake and Dragon Quest XI with Square Enix, I feel were a strong statement, and those games and the hours I sunk in are just as tied to my enjoyment of games on the PS4 this gen. COVID for sure has had a positive impact, definitely a case of a rising tide raising all ships. Whether on my PS4, Switch, or any other console really, I look back at this year and genuinely wonder how much worse off I might have been this year if not for gaming. Excessive gaming for long stretches is something I'm increasingly wary of, and I imagine I'll start to cut down my gaming once some sort of normalcy comes back to the world, but for 2020, with how it's played out, it's been a great way to escape, and also a great way to connect to others. Whether in a party, vicariously through a bean in Fall Guys, or just discussing games here on N-Europe, it's definitely been a light at the end of the tunnel for me almost every day since March. Compounded only by consistent news all summer (though I'll admit, I did miss E3 in the end!), the buildup to a new generation, and the excitement of it all. Whether it's a PS5, Series X, Series S, RTX graphics card, new VR headset, or even if people are just getting around to picking up a Switch or PS4/XBO (sorry Vita! ), it's been a rough year in some way or another for everyone. That we have something to look forward to as we look to the end of the year as great as new hardware and software is awesome, and I definitely hope it continues to offer what we probably all need as the chaos unfurls around us (and, you know, eventually goes away...please!) 1

Happenstance Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 Got a preorder for Watch Dogs Legion as well now. I was planning on holding off a bit on it but a lot of the coverage over the past day has swayed me.
Will Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 Can’t wait! Still haven’t had a confirmation one way or the other whether my pre-order will be good for launch day but the tracking is still showing the 19th as expected delivery. Really hope it comes.
drahkon Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 So many times I've said to myself: "You really need to give No Man's Sky another go." I guess I might just wait for next-gen 1

I enjoyed my time with it and that was on its first iteration, so I've missed all of these updates. Looking forward to re-starting!
