Shorty Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Only if you opened with that presumptuous flamebait of a first sentence would you get any trouble with that in the Switch thread.
dazzybee Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Only if you opened with that presumptuous flamebait of a first sentence would you get any trouble with that in the Switch thread. Exactly. This is a perfectly reasonable review to be honest, and even people who are executed by the switch would find it difficult to disagree with. Be reasonable in that thread and I don't think people would kick up a fuss.
somme Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 people who are executed by the switch would find it difficult to disagree with. Only because they'd be dead.
Hero-of-Time Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 I'm surprised by IGNs review. I thought they would have been praising it to high heaven but they were quite realistic with their thoughts. A lot of places are saying the same thing, it's a nice bit of kit but the expense and lack of software at launch is what could hold it back. The cost was never my issue but the software certainly was and its nice to see that I wasn't alone with this feeling.
Rummy Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) I'd have gone for PSVR over Switch if it wasn't for my commute to and from work each day. The hybrid nature of the device was its biggest seller for me. Given the semi-tangential debates about why people are buying, I have to say that your situation certainly makes a ton of sense to me - were I in a similar situation I'd have the Switch in a heartbeat; but without that commute time I need to consider what it's offering over my other living room experiences ATM. I don't dare post this in the "actual" Switch thread because I would get slaughtered. Reviews for the console are coming in and they mostly say what I've been worried about. To me CNET summerized it perfectly: Seems like a great kit with a lot of potential (which coincidentally describes Nintendo as a whole ) but there's not enough to warrant a purchase (especially at that price) for non-hardcore Nintendo gamers, which - sadly - I've become part of. The sensible choice for me is wait for either a great second hand offer somewhere down the line or the inevitable redesign. Really happy to hear that the general perception is that the Switch is a nice console/portable. It has some issues which should've been ironed out but well, you can't always get what you want. I still think that the launch feels rushed. Ofc I don't mod here but I do echo Shorty's sentiments on the post' beginnings. I know this thread came up for a number of reasons but we don't need to keep perpetuating them! Just airing my thoughts here, mind. I share your sentiments on the reviews I think. What's reassuring however is that the 'good' is pretty hardware based which ideally shouldn't change much, and the bad is essentially lack of software for said hardware that will hopefully be able to be resolved with time. My main worries/concerns after Wii U is that they won't do enough with this to build and keep momentum even in the face of poor sales if they occur - but seeing their marketing, attempts at indie engagement and 'curation', plus potential upcoming titles and possibilities I'm hoping they really have learnt their lesson and act upon it this time round. I can easily wait a year or so for Switch for this reassurance whilst I've got my ps4 and other distractions. Edited March 1, 2017 by Rummy

It's not just the commute either. If I didn't have a WiiU and 3DS to trade in I'd not have bought it. Seeing how, after trading, I'll be getting the Switch, Zelda and Pro Controller for £27, there was no point in me passing it up.
Happenstance Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Unless of course you had sold your Wii U & 3DS, used the money to buy lottery tickets and then become a millionaire
DriftKaiser Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Happy Switchmas since some of you got your Switch/gears arrived at your doorstep today.
Happenstance Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 *Sigh* Can't believe fucking friend codes are back...
Hero-of-Time Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 *Sigh* Can't believe fucking friend codes are back... I've been in a meeting at work and have just now seen this. Absolutely crazy. I wanna say that I can't believe it but its Nintendo + Online so, yeah.....
bob Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I don't know why we don't just all change our names to 12 digit numbers. Then we'll have no issues.

Rummy Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I was wondering who the fuck that was - seeing them as last post in the Investments thread in GCC I thought it was going to be some new spambot! Saw liger mentioned about Friend codes in the other thread - really peculiar that they're back imo, silly and bizarre decisions from Nintendo but I have to admit I've not read the details and only know from what posts I've seen here so far.

drahkon Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 The Nintendo Switch's day one system update has launched, and there are reports online that installing the patch with the Joy-Cons attached updates the firmware on the controllers, resolving the de-sync issues. Is this really the case? Unfortunately not. We've updated our console with controllers attached and re-run the battery of tests detailed below. In all cases, the range and consistency of the connection of each Joy-Con remains the same, and the left controller still has demonstrably weaker range than the right. Eurogamer has contacted Nintendo several times now concerning this issue, and we still await a reply. Eurogamer.net Uh-oh... In more positive news: I just hooked up my mate's WiiU and I still despise the console But I can play Breath of the Wild much earlier than expected so that's nice.
Agent Gibbs Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Friend codes are the most bullshit idea and to keep reviving them is as moronic as anything ive ever heard
Rummy Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 How dare you. It's ok, you can still keep your title of being our oldest spambot instead <3 Shame about the Joycon issue still being a thing - is there any progress on what's the actual cause? Either from Nintendo officially(alawl) or from fans who've tried to figure it out beyond just speculating?
Jimbob Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 It's the only reason i keep my WiiU plugged in is because of Zelda. Had an argument with some friends in a gaming group i'm part of over my reasons to not get a Switch. Unfortunately, it has resulted in them not wanting to talk to be as i'll be playing Breath of the Wild on (what they call) an inferior dead machine. Honestly, some people can be quite pathetic. Have heard of the Joy-con issues, hopefully they get resolved pretty quickly. As for friend codes, urgghh. Will Nintendo ever learn.
Fierce_LiNk Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I've only just caught up on this thread (and that other one) as I've had a long day at work. I'm a little bemused to see friend codes being talked about. I thought Nintendo had moved away from them. It was a stupid system at the time and it's bizarre that they've stuck with it up til now. The term "friend code" now has a negative meaning and even using the term just gives the impression of an outdated Nintendo.
dan-likes-trees Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Don't know about you guys but I'm having a serious battle with myself to stop myself splurging on a switch having read up on Zelda. Tried playing Horizon Zero Dawn the other day and I spent the whole time wishing it was BotW. Jealous of those of you who bought a WiiU and don't have to drop the hefty £330 pricetag! On the other hand, had a little browse of the metacritic's top WiiU games, which reaffirmed my thought that it would be purely a Zelda and Mario Kart box for me to buy. Must... resist...
drahkon Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 Shame about all the hardware issues on the Switch. Screens getting scratched to bad wireless. Enjoy the alpha test hardware with extra premium pricing. Didn't know about that. Is it really that bad?
dwarf Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 Yeah, Breath of the Wild is the only game I'm really desperate to play right now.
