lostmario Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 I was going to bump my old thread with new photos but I thought a new thread was the best option. Over the last 3 years I've been building up my collection of retro consoles, buying the ones I unfortunately had to sell as a kid to be able to afford the newest console available and also ones I never owned, at local car boots. Lets start with the TV 30" Sony Trinitron Managed to get one of these for £10 this summer after my old CRT died. Apparently its one of the best CRTs for retro gaming. Next to TV: Playstation 1 (Won it) My second PS1, my original launch console died just before I won this one in 1999. Games Picked up half of these for a £1 this summer. Controllers Top shelf from the left: Megadrive 2 (Paid £3 at a car boot) Mega CD 2 (Paid £20 off ebay) Originally had a Japanese Megadrive 1 & Mega CD 1, sold both to get a Playstation at launch. Games Mega CD games included this time Controllers I own 3 megadrives, that is the only reason I can think of why I have so many MD controllers. Sega Saturn (Paid £1.50 at a car boot ) Never owned one of these before as I chose to get the Playstation instead. Games Controllers Sega Dreamcast (Paid £99 in 2000) Bought this with MSR, I was blown away. Such an underrated console Games Controllers Sony Playstation 2 - Slim (Paid £7 at a car boot) Brother got one at launch, passed it onto me once he got a 360, sold it for £4 once I got the Slim version to replace it. Games Controllers Middle shelf from the left: Nintendo 64 (Paid £30 for it unboxed in 1997) My brother bought a US N64 at launch, I purchased this not long after Goldeneye was released as the price was too tempting and it would save me having to use the converter all the time. Games Controllers Nintendo Gamecube - Silver (Paid £5 at a car boot) I had a purple one at launch, bought a black one from a car boot then picked up a silver one last year. On the look out for the white one. Sold my boxed gameboy player for £40, picked up an unboxed replacement for £2 at a car boot. Games Controllers Wavebird isn't in the best shape colour wise. Saved it from a car boot stall for £3. Nintendo Entertainment System - Paid £40 on Ebay £40 seems a bit expensive now, price for a boxed NES has dropped over the last year or so. Couldn't have a retro console collection without it though! Games I made boxes for some of these, which ones? Controllers Mega Drive 2 & 32X (Neptune) - Paid £5 for boxed MD2 at carboot. Paid £100 for 32X with 6 games on Ebay. Decided to get another megadrive to play 32X games on due to having to plug all 3 power adaptors in when using Mega CD. Bottom shelf from the left: Xbox - Bought for £3 at a car boot Got this mainly to play the two Halo games, it is a beast of a console. Games Controllers Master System 2 - Bought for £2 at a car boot Originally had a Master System (it was my first ever console), was sold to buy some Megadrive / SNES games. Games Super Nintendo (Bought for £3 at a car boot) Originally had an US SNES, was sold to get a US N64 at launch. Games All SNES games in Universal game cases. Controllers Not pictured Megadrive 1 Gamecube - Black Gamecube - Purple Oh and one last thing... I plan to playthrough all these again one after another next year
Hero-of-Time Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Awesome collection, lostmario. Let me know when you are playing the Resident Evil games. I wouldn't mind going through them all again myself and it would be fun to do a double play through.
Esequiel Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 You have no Amiga CD32 or Jaguar 64. Your collection is invalid. Seriously though, looking good. I never had the mega CD very jealous of that, the amount of stuff I got rid of... I could cry now lol You need to increase your Saturn and Dreamcast games! Nights into dreams and the controller at the very least!!!
Happenstance Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 I wish I had the space to be able to properly display my retro collection. At the moment they are all just sitting in various boxes, calling out to me daily. Yours is looking awesome though @lostmario
nekunando Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 I'm glad to see my Resident Evil 2 on N64 finally be put to good use
Aneres11 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 I love threads like these. Great collection! Re the hand made boxes for the NES games...?! Little help! They all look like proper boxes to me! Good read! : peace:
lostmario Posted December 14, 2014 Author Posted December 14, 2014 Re the hand made boxes for the NES games...?! Little help! They all look like proper boxes to me! 5 of them are hand made boxes.
lostmario Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 You have no Amiga CD32 or Jaguar 64. Your collection is invalid. Seriously though, looking good. I never had the mega CD very jealous of that, the amount of stuff I got rid of... I could cry now lol You need to increase your Saturn and Dreamcast games! Nights into dreams and the controller at the very least!!! I had an Atari Jaguar, the only games console that I owned back in the day that I have no interest in owning again. Regarding Dreamcast games, I only posted my boxed games *cough cough*
Blade Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Re that collection. Just wow. Is that all from the car boot at S6?
Rummy Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Those prices are disgusting. Definitely feel like I should be going to car boot sales.
Agent Gibbs Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Man I need to start going to carboot sales again! That collection is just amazing
Ike Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 5 of them are hand made boxes. Do you know if they would fit Super Famicom games? Could do with a case for my copy of Super Metroid. Where'd you buy them from?
Goafer Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Can't wait until I get more space to have my collection on display. It's been stored away for far too long. This was why I had to put it into storage. What a fucking mess...:
lostmario Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 Do you know if they would fit Super Famicom games? Could do with a case for my copy of Super Metroid. Where'd you buy them from? I made the NES boxes, for SNES games, you should look at buying some Universal game cases. Re that collection. Just wow. Is that all from the car boot at S6? From S6 car boots, 3 x Megadrives, 1 x Saturn, 1 x PS2, 2 x Gamecubes, 1 x Gameboy Player, 1 x xbox, 1 x wavebird, 1 x master system Can't wait until I get more space to have my collection on display. It's been stored away for far too long. This was why I had to put it into storage. What a fucking mess...: I need that White Gamecube & Master System 1.
Goafer Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I need that White Gamecube & Master System 1. Yeah, good luck with that! IIRC, the white GC was Happenstance's before I bought it from him.
lostmario Posted December 17, 2014 Author Posted December 17, 2014 Yeah, good luck with that! IIRC, the white GC was Happenstance's before I bought it from him. Just spotted the gameboy, is that the one I sold you? Didn't I sell it to you boxed?
Goafer Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Just spotted the gameboy, is that the one I sold you? Didn't I sell it to you boxed? I'll be honest, I don't remember where I got most of the collection, but I do have a boxed GB so chances are I bought it from you. The photo could have been taken before I bought yours (I have 2 IIRC) or the box could be stored away/not visible. I never throw out boxes for handhelds, but I dont have any console boxes. I wouldn't throw any retro console boxes out, I just buy unboxed ones. I do throw out boxes if I buy current gen consoles though. Edit: just realised the photo I posted is pretty ancient. I have quite a bit more than that now. I just forget what exactly. Edited December 17, 2014 by Goafer
lostmario Posted September 4, 2016 Author Posted September 4, 2016 Added a new unit to my retro gaming setup. Impressed with how well it fits in and it now allows me to spread out the consoles a bit more and get the 3DO out of the cupboard. Before I could move the unit into place I had to move my 6 in 1 scart block to the other side of the TV. That took me a good 20 minutes sorting out all the scart cables and yes, they all have labels attached to them. New setup below (camera on phone is shocking) I'll take a better photo when I find my digital camera.
Hero-of-Time Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Very clean looking setup. You not bought that Atari Jaguar yet? You really need to start investing in some games for these machines. It's baffling that you collect the consoles but not the games.

It's baffling that you collect the consoles but not the games. Nah, still waiting for him to find it out. I think he's seen how much they are going for and decided to sell it on eBay. My games collection is increasing slowly. Built up my PS2 and xbox game collection quite a bit over the last couple of years at car boots. In total I have 169 (yes, I just counted them) original boxed games for all those consoles. Then I have the everdrive which has all the games for the Mega Drive, Master System & 32X on it. I also have 69 not so quite original Playstation One & Dreamcast games.
lostmario Posted January 7, 2018 Author Posted January 7, 2018 Bought a new entertainment unit for my retro consoles from IKEA Bought a new bookcase for all the games from IKEA as well Also invested in some new storage boxes for my controllers, £12 for 4. Not bad at all That Wavebird has some serious discolouring. Any ideas how to restore it? 5
S.C.G Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 @lostmario that's a fantastic setup you have there. It's the kind of setup I would aspire to have, if I had more space or if I was starting again. As it stands though, I'm going to really try to make the most of the limited amount of space I have left in my room, I'm still some ways off yet but I'll get there. Got a load of RGB scart leads, a scart box, hdmi splitter box, cables and things to make it easy to swap certain consoles out while still having the majority of them setup in a makeshift manner. Really nice work there though, it makes me want to get my setup closer to being sorted soon, as it stands I do have my main 32" Samsung 1080p LED TV set up in the middle which I've had for a few years, with a secondary NEC MultiSync EA234WMi 23-Inch Widescreen LED Monitor purchased only a few months ago which I use vertically for shmups or as a secondary screen for reference while playing games on the main TV and I have got my old 14" portable Minato CRT TV down from the loft which I'm possibly hoping to reinstate mostly for light gun games at some point. It will all get sorted this year... at some point, hopefully soon. 1
killthenet Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 I think I'm most jealous of how neat your boxes of controllers and accessories are! Really great collection man, I hope to do something similar when I get a place of my own. 1
Fierce_LiNk Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Awesome work, dude. I always feel nostalgic whenever I see a MegaDrive/MegaCD combo. 1
lostmario Posted December 20, 2018 Author Posted December 20, 2018 Clean clear photo of my retro gaming setup which is now outdated as I've added a american SNES and tidied the cables up. 3
