Pokemon Wii U Rumour

http://www.vgleaks.com/rumor-information-for-two-new-pokemon-games-leaked-pokemon-plus-pokemon-minus/

Just need to know if this has been called out or not? Intriguing.

GameFreak were one of the first development studios inside Nintendo to receive Alpha-Prototype hardware, now have been upgraded to the Beta-Prototype hardware above.

>Have a few areas marked out, TONS of concept art traveling between Pokemon Company and Nintendo Co Ltd.

>GameFreak plans to completely overhaul the basic systems of battle, simplifying the process.

>The development team is “going to put a lot of ideas they have wanted to do for years in this game”.

>Two versions already have code names, possibly final: Pokemon Plus and Pokemon Minus.

>Theme is “Old Tradition VS New Exploration”

>New region, no name yet, is based on South East Asia with one large peninsula and many smaller islands.

>Three new starters with no names: Water evolves into Water/Steel and is a squat, teardrop shaped humanoid that has a jar filled with on its head as it evolves it grows taller and the jar bigger until it needs another set of arms to hold it on it’s head. Fire evolves into Fire/Fairy and is a tiny cute goat with fire blowing out of its horns, it’s horns and look evolves more menacing until it has curly ram like horns and a motorcycle hot-rod-like look. Grass evolves into a Grass/Electric and starts with a leap for a face with a nubby root as a body and evolves until it grows into an electric producing palm tree with each flower petal having a different face.

>The main legendary for Pokemon Plus is a Shi Foo Lion-looking Psychic/Ground-type that has multiple faces, the Pokemon Minus legendary is a Ghost/Fairy type that has two dashes for eyes and is a hurricane-like appendages with many arms and hands.

>More traditional Pokemon-like gameplay will be on the Handheld controller while an all new gameplay aspect will be on the Terminal unit.

>The “Pokken Fighers” render that was teased was running on Alpha kits, Beta kits now have advance cell shading. Going for very detailed “living anime” look.

>The new “Team” villains are described as a bunch of “Sohei Zelots”-types who have discovered the player’s best friend as a reincarnation of a special type of person who only is alive every 100 years. They believe the old system where people were given a Pokemon egg and they stick to that Pokemon until they die and who’s function in society dictate what role that person is. They are against the “modern” trend of Pokemon Trainers and capturing multiple Pokemon and are making a holy pilgrimage to evoke the old Legendaries to turn everything back to normal. They keep the player away from their friend, saying the special one (who can do amazing things like mega evolve Pokemon without the use of a mega ring) only love is that of Pokemon and not people. It is planned to be reveal later that for the special one to fulfill their role in society they must be mortally sacrificed to awaken the legendaries.

>Routes connection the island together are water bridges but clumps of island are connected together by underwater tunnels.

>There is a “Stone Slowking” statue that is a parody of the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, Thailand.

>Many Pokemon from Hoenn and Sinnoh will make a return.

>Variety of Pokemon Gyms, one is a mail system that only uses flying types and focuses on sky battles. One only uses baby Pokemon, one is implied to be a real vampire and uses Ghost and Dark Pokemon. There is also a military like leader who uses Fire and Steel Pokemon.

>The island gameplay with Gym Leaders and the Elite Four island can be played entirely on the Handheld and can be blown up on the Terminal for home play.

>New Pokemon Type similar to Shinies, no details yet on how they work but I’ve been told they “change the game significantly”.

>The “Mainland” is an MMO-like environment that is exclusive to the Terminal and is shared by both versions.

>Players all over the world online can chat, trade, intermingle and experience new-updated story lines on the mainland.

>Pokemon Band is a new mechanic introduced to get people involved who do not battle, a co-operative experience where Pokemon dance and make music together to achieve the highest group score.

>Pokemon Bank are actual locations on the Mainland and Handheld areas where people can import past Pokemon, mainly from Pokemon X and Pokemon Y into the new game.

I saw this rumour the other day and didn't know what to make of it, it sounds good...but i'm skeptical its actually genuine (i actually mentioned it in the pokemon thread)

it would be nice to do the console version this way, and you know a WiiU pokemon game would shift gangbuster consoles

I can promise you that this is fake

?

That's like me promising that you will never grow a beard, surely? :D

You'd need to be in a pretty high level managerial position to make those kinda promises ;)

however... I agree with what I assume is your deduction, that from one or two silly statements above, it would appear at least a portion is a fabrication of a febrile imagination, and as such the whole thing seems rather unreliable report.

It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo are absolutely begging Game Freak to release some Pokemon RPG's on the Wii U that connect with the 3DS games in some way. I really liked the Colosseum series, though it just felt like a giant tease of what could be possible as a spin off game.

It would surprise me, greatly. Nintendo know full well that Pokémon is handheld for a reason.

Yeah, I guess the huge amounts of info is pushing it...

I don't get it. Nintendo are in perhaps the worst situation ever where the Wii U is concerned... Surely its time to change that whole 'Pokemon is handheld' mentality when supposed leaks like this just turns a hater into fanboy.

I have FULL confidence that a half decent adventure or battling game (and a Majoras Mask remake), in a lovely console bundle, maybe throw in a cute limited edition gamepad will turn the Wii Us misfortune upside down.

I don't care how right supposed insiders like Serebii are, ideas, thinking and culture has to change at Nintendo/Gamefreak.

As addictive as X and Y were (mainly the battles and new mon and moves), the story left nothing to the imagination and the online play gets bland very quickly - Stadium/ Coliseum type games expand on what the handhelds are capable of delivering.

Pokémon is not controlled by Nintendo. They have little say in it.

Pokémon isn't just only released on a handheld only, but it's designed for it. A large part of why it's so popular is the social aspect, taking the game with you to battle and trade. People our age tend to not see it as much, but the younger portion of the audience, as well as the Japanese side. It's still huge.

Releasing a console version would destroy this. Yes, the game could have online, but so does the 3DS and it's not a substitute. Essentially, they would be shrinking their audience (even if the Wii U was successful) while severely increasing the development costs. It is not worth it, especially as a home console game would only bring shinier graphics will losing this main component of the game. In the past, they could have argued giving online via home console before it was handheld, but now? Nope. Nothing.

I do agree that we should get a Stadium-esque game though :)

I disagree - and im not going to explain myself in counter to your argument that never wants to change :p

They have made adventure on home consoles before, all they really needed to do was put some work in and improve the story, create inspiring music and visuals - those 2 games got mediocre reviews. ..still didnt stop a lot of people from wanting to play it - its Pokemon!

Pretty soon these companies are going to go the way of the dinosaur - Even with this gens handheld game, the story standard has slipped and there are fewer new Pokemon. Playing in 3D was the novelty, but what else is there? I find it hard to want to go back into the game again.

If a game is designed around being on a handheld, what logical reason is there to shift it to a non handheld device and kill one of the major points of it, though?

It's not them going the way of the dinosaur, it's them doing what's best for the franchise. Plus, considering they sold 11.6 million units in just two months on a console with an install base of 42 million, what they're doing is fine and is indicative of the inverse of going the way of the dinosaur. Very, very, few other games reach those heights, and typically they only do when the install base is higher.

There's also not fewer new Pokémon. In X & Y, there were:

71 new Pokémon

30 Mega Evolutions (new concept, essentially new Pokémon; new designs, stats, types abilities etc.)

101 new Pokémon with 30 being un-numbered. That's the second lowest amount.

Nothing stops them going a similar route to MH3U? Take your Pokémon on your 3DS and when you're home, transfer the save and play it on the big screen.

I just see no reason to waste resources on that. The development costs would drastically increase for very little returns. It makes no business or logical sense.

Plus, surely people would then complain about it being the same game, not built for a console etc.

The thing with MH3U is that the home console one provided online, which the 3DS one lacked. With Pokémon, it has that on the 3DS, so why bother with a home console version? It would bring NOTHING to the table except potentially placating internet hysteria demanding Pokémon deviate from its entirce concept
