dwarf Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) Wipeout: Warehouse Dodgems ? No wonder Studio Liverpool got panned. Edit - That's actually just made me really sad that there won't be a PS4 Wipeout. That would've been a real tempter at launch, HD still looks gorgeous. Edited September 8, 2013 by dwarf

Well...Sony still own the the franchise, so here's hoping they throw it to some other studio. Still, I can't imagine a launch window for a Sony console without Wipeout.
dwarf Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Yeah but Liverpool did such a good job with Wipeout. Perhaps there could've been more tracks but I can't imagine the next developer possessing quite the same attention to detail.
Ashley Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Hmm trying to watch the feed at work and its borked. Or work won't let me. Either way, nada. Am I/did I miss(ing) anything interesting?
Happenstance Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Its still on Vita stuff at the moment so they announced a redesign for that, new colours and then just some games so far
Hero-of-Time Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Japan date revealed. Sony has announced that PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan on 22nd February 2014, several months after Europe and North America. It's the first PlayStation console not to launch first in Japan. To make up for the wait, the Japanese version will include a digital download of launch platformer Knack and a year's extended warranty. Sony named the Japanese launch details at a press conference in Tokyo this morning.
Sheikah Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Oh, how terrible for them. :p Who says competition isn't a good thing?
Dcubed Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Man, bad news for Sony fans in Japan (I bet that Nintendo are breathing a sigh of relief right now!) The PS4's launch lineup in Japan is looking pretty damn weak too... {2014-02-22} [PS4] Totemo E Mahjong Plus (ASW)***{2014-02-22} [PS4] Battlefield 4 (Electronic Arts) {2014-02-22} [PS4] FIFA 14 (Electronic Arts) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Natural Doctrine (Kadokawa Shoten) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Strider (Capcom)* {2014-02-22} [PS4] Dynasty Warriors 8 with Extreme Legends (Koei Tecmo) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Call of Duty: Ghosts (Square Enix) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn - Beta (Square Enix)* {2014-02-22} [PS4] Yakuza Ishin (Sega) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Killzone Shadow Fall (SCE) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Doki-Doki Universe (SCE)** {2014-02-22} [PS4] DRIVECLUB (SCE) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Knack (SCE) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Hohokum (SCE)*** {2014-02-22} [PS4] Resogun (SCE)*** {2014-02-22} [PS4] Dream Club: Hosts Girls on Stage (D3 Publisher)*** {2014-02-22} [PS4] Nikoli no Puzzle 4: Sudoku (Hamster)*** {2014-02-22} [PS4] Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Ubisoft) {2014-02-22} [PS4] Watch Dogs (Ubisoft) *=Undecided **=Free to play ***=Digital only Not counting their first party titles (of which all of them other than Knack are western focused and developed by western studios - and that latter game is not only included with the first run of consoles, but it's also not exactly looking like a great title anyway, with about as much hype as a wet fish), they don't have a single exclusive retail title. Considering that it's gonna retail for about 40,000 yen, who in Japan would buy the console for THAT lineup when all of those 3rd party titles are also gonna be on PS3?
Daft Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) Sony don't need to rush in Japan. There's absolutely no pressure on them. It's the US they're gunning for, and need, and that line up reflects it. Edit: Got to say, this cell-shading is...phenomenal. Edited September 9, 2013 by Daft
The Bard Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Oh my god that looks amazing. Was a huge fan of Guilty Gear XX on PS2, looks like I'm going to have to dish for another two arcade sticks.
Dcubed Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Yup. GG Xrd looks incredible! Hard to believe that it's all 3D (and not just any 3D, but UE3 3D! )

It's the US they're gunning for, and need, and that line up reflects it. Yup. Xbox may as well not exist in Japan so there's really no competition for them. And the Wii U is doing shit. I wouldn't say that it's a bad lineup for Japan, in terms of what they want. They bloody love Dynasty Warriors and FF Online (in the form of XI, love which will no doubt transfer to XIV).
Dcubed Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I wouldn't say that it's a bad lineup for Japan, in terms of what they want. They bloody love Dynasty Warriors and FF Online (in the form of XI, love which will no doubt transfer to XIV). Problem is though that they already have FF14 on their current PS3 and they'll be getting DW8 on their current PS3 well before it comes out on PS4. It's not really a great lineup if they already own the games that will be available, minor graphical upgrade or otherwise. Doesn't matter if Microsoft or Nintendo flounder, it's still a very poor launch lineup because of the lack of exclusives. It's gonna have a very slow start with the lineup looking like that (and the western focused games aren't even worth mentioning, they wont sell for toffee). Hopefully the Vita TV will kickstart that console's sales though. I reckon it has a decent chance at least
Sheikah Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 It is because they know they're going to upgrade to a PS4 anyway (since Nintendo offers a completely different experience and Xbox is non existent) and the thought of being able to play games they regularly play is enough to push people. Games like FFXIV on PS4 I can easily imagine having the graphical quality of the PC version while being noticeably clippy compared to the version on PS3. That's a game people play day after day so I have no problem believing that people would want a 'superior' version of it on a console they're going to buy at some point anyway. Also remember that to Japan, a lot of these are actually like exclusives! (Except if you count PC). Nintendo aren't offering all of these, and they don't bother with the Xbox.

Edited September 9, 2013 by Daft
Shorty Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 The 64GB card is the same price as the Vita TV :/
Sheikah Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Thanks for the summary. Nice conference. Namco are missing. Where is Ridge Racer? Excuse me but I think you mean Riiiiiiiidge Raaaacerrrr
Cube Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 About that Tekken part, it also looks like they've added in support for two (perhaps more) controllers for PS1 games.
Daft Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Can't you use two controllers when playing PS1 games on the PS3?
V. Amoleo Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Can't you use two controllers when playing PS1 games on the PS3? Yeah, but not on the Vita and that video is showing Tekken being played on the Vita TV.
Deathjam Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 [/center] Looks like Antonio Banderas is 'rejoicing' at the turning on of the PS4...
