I'm looking for a new PC to play shizzle like Hitman Absolution.
Jimbob Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 So far, so good. It's my first one in 7 years as well, Very quick, smooth. No faults, best PC i've bought (and only bought 2). It's good spec, near enough the highest spec in-store.
Sheikah Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 EEVIL if you're after a great performance PC at a much cheaper cost I'd recommend building it yourself, that way the parts you put in your PC are the best (not generic crap).
Jimbob Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Where'd ye get it from/pricings? Around the £350/£400 pricetag from PC World.

True, but I'm too lazy and scared to put such responsibility* in my hands. I might just remix a base unit on http://www.overclockers.co.uk/index.php, it's where I got my current PC from many years ago. *On account that I don't know what may be more powerful/what is compatible with this etc.

For a few hours of searching for parts you're likely to save maybe £200 and have much better components. The only compatibility thing is that the motherboard type has to match the processor and the RAM has to be compatible. There's so many existing builds/overclock bundles which have taken the effort out of compatibility though. All you then need to do is find those parts/similar parts at ebuyer/amazon etc and put them together. With pre-built PCs they are more likely than not to have the stock cooler attached to the processor (ie. shit) as well as a crap case with poor ventilation. Fans also tend to be cheaper and noisier (better fans often have multiple speed settings to reduce noise). Then there's the fact that the RAM is typically not the best rated RAM there is out there, sometimes even generic RAM. It's also quite unlikely the power supply will be 80 plus certified (basically means it will be inefficient), probably a cheap non-modular model that will likely not deliver much power should you want to upgrade anything. Basically they will put the minimum amount of money in to create an impression that the machine is extremely worthwhile/powerful by rattling off reasonable sounding specs. But dig a little deeper and you'll realise you'd be much better off building it yourself. :p
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 (edited) A shiny new camera, which I've been wanting for a while and will make good use of at the Meet. It records full HD videos in 1080p with crisp audio and takes razor sharp images at up to 4000x3000 pixels. Edited June 6, 2012 by Dannyboy-the-Dane
