MadDog Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 I've only got I am Legend on Bluray. I bought my mum 50 First Dates and Wedding Singer on Bluray for her birthday.
ipaul Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 I'm pretty sure that unless a TV is more than around 24 (I think) inches, the human eye can't actually distinguish between 720p and 1080p. I'm sure I was able to with my monitor and PS3 combination Obviously the difference was fairly small but it was certainly there.
Sheikah Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 I've got quite a few Blu Rays, my best being Dark Knight, Inglourious Basterds, Casino Royale and Planet Earth. Planet Earth looks absolutely awesome; for £18, you should probably all get this 550-minute, 5-disc extravaganza.
Cube Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Well, I was going to enjoy Saving Private Ryan on Blu-Ray, but it seems that my laptop's Blu-Ray player now can't play any Blu-Rays.
david.dakota Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I've got enough with my HD tv and upscaling DVD player... Maybe if it gets cheaper/mainstream I would consider it. Most of my media is watched through my laptop anyway.. lol mokong 60 inch?? how much did that cost you!? Price is no excuse Samsung BD-C5300 Blu-ray Player + 6 Blu-ray Titles! Get This Product For £99.99 When You Use Voucher Code BLURAY99 At Checkout More importantly, when are the proper versions of the films coming out on Blu-Ray? 2011 I believe. Planet Earth looks absolutely awesome; for £18, you should probably all get this 550-minute, 5-disc extravaganza. And people want to drop the license fee?! There is no way on earth we'd see programmes like this without it, if the Beeb was dropped into the commercial sector. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of The Pacific on Blu Ray. Never caught it on $ky, so I too am looking forward to it.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nah, I'm with Paj here, I can't be bothered to switch to Blu-ray with the current prices. I can wait.
Guy Posted August 22, 2010 Author Posted August 22, 2010 The Pacific is definitely gonna be one to get. Amazing series I stopped watching midway through because I wanted to see it on Blu-ray. I'm trying to think of stuff I'm looking forward to upcoming and drawing a blank. I'm used to having a list of titles I'm anticipating... but a heck of a lot of the old movies I've wanted have been released now. Back to the Future and Aliens are due soon, I guess. Plenty of anime coming out I want on BD, however!
Jon Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nah, I'm with Paj here, I can't be bothered to switch to Blu-ray with the current prices. I can wait. Current prices? Blu Rays aren't expensive anymore, yes they still cost a few quid more than the dvd version but for the far superior quality do you really have to count the pennies.
Paj! Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 If you're buying really current films maybe not, as DVD's of brand new stuff are like £12, so a few more isn't going to hurt. But most films on DVD these days (that aren't brand new) are a fiver in HMV/Fopp/online, if not cheaper.

Fierce_LiNk Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I don't own a Blu Ray player or any films, mainly because of price and convenience. As Paj mentioned, it's nice going into town/buying a dvd online for a few quid. However, when it becomes the standard, the first film I'm probably going to buy will be Sunshine, as I imagine that'll look swish. It looks great on DVD as it is.
Nolan Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Blu-Ray here are $20-$30 (according to google £12-£19) Old or New with a very rare few being cheaper.
Guy Posted August 22, 2010 Author Posted August 22, 2010 As expensive as they still are, there's no denying the price has dropped considerably in recent months. I still remember paying like, £27.00 for the Simpsons movie. I was a fool.
Paj! Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Looking around sites as well, it's the shit ones no one wants (Final Destination, Gamer etc) that are cheap. Also the fact that most films aren't actually on Blu-Ray yet. AFAIK

Ashley Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Bitchy comments are not exactly out of character for me are they? (also I'm house hunting so...)
gothic_hobbit Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre blu ray is going for cheap on a certain popular retail site
Jimbob Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I got quite a number of blu-ray disks, and here they are (in the order they are on my shelf) The Wrestler Enemy of the State Quantum of Solace Casino Royale Independance Day I-Robot Ghostbusters Predator Hancock The Forbidden Kingdom Indiana Jones - Temple of Crystal Skull Taken Dumb and Dumber Seven Pounds Commando Shinjuku Incident Yes Man Hitch Hellboy Hellboy II Top Gun Total Recall I Love You Phillip Morris Reservior Dogs Terminator Salvation Rambo (box-set) Still got a few more coming, including the new Prince of Persia (when-ever that comes out). Out of them all, my personal favorite is I-Robot. It just looks so great, the clarity is amazing the sheer detail is immense and all that. I really ought to get a Blu-ray surround sound set-up to really do High Definition justice.
gothic_hobbit Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Terminator 2 looks sweet on bluray. It blows the standard def version out of the water
Shorty Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 I've bought that because it was in a great deal, but it's still in the packaging
mcj metroid Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 animation fucking rocks in HD. Akira looks as amazing as ever in bluray

Not sure of the exact measurements, but obviously if you are close to it or it is big you can see the difference better.
