Also, what's up with the witch hunt for those with negative opinions? No wonder the internet has moved onto the word 'Nintendrones' lately.

That's probably not a fair term though, considering how much fun you can have with the 3DS. I'd say it's much more the other way around - the critics are generally the ones being biased in this case. The 3DS is not perfect, but the onslaught of negativity that has built up is totally out of proportion to how good or bad the machine is. It's like sharks smelling blood.

The 'nintendrone' thing has been going on for a while and I agree there is some truth in the harsh name exactly because of this witch hunt against those with negative opinions. Your analogy is kind of like saying "Enough people have said how bad ___ is, so you shouldn't state your opinion of it if it's not going to be positive".

What is actually unfair is calling out the critics as the ones being bias. I have the 3DS and thus far, I'm really not digging it. Now, consider the fact this is a forum of a website that is about Nintendo. A lot of us came here because of Nintendo. A lot of us have a preference for Nintendo. The only logical conclusion of this is that the fans are the most likely to be bias. So don't be throwing that word around without thinking carefully about who exactly you're calling out.

You're really overreacting. For one thing, I wasn't accusing anyone on here of being biased, I was just talking about the general backlash that built up against the 3DS the worse it did. It had nothing to do with whether it was a good product or had good games. People were just picking on it the weaker it seemed to become. Like I say, sharks smelling blood.

Secondly, to say there's a "witch hunt" against those with negative opinions is just ridiculous.

...So? It's not like it's a living entity or anything, it's product. Plus, the weaknesses behind the system are affecting its customers in terms of the games, what they offer and more importantly, the price drop.

I may have worded 'witch hunt' strongly, but some elements of the description is happening on this forum every now and then. It's very hard to state your opinion of the 3DS itself or its success without a 'debunker' attitude in the inevitable quote of your post.

I'm not over-exaggerating, just stating that there seems to be an overly defensive culture emerging around the Nintendo scene lately. I can see some faint parallels between this and the notoriety of the Sony fanbase in the early PS3 days (ooh, can of worms right there).

Unfortunately, people sometimes forget that we're dealing with personal opinions here.

That's when conflict arises.

One can stress how much one doesn't like one's 3DS, and the 'other' can stress how unfair that is for the he/she is enjoying it very much.

In the end it doesn't matter, and at least 90% of all conversations are pointless in the sense that they're just ego-battles: 'Tell me what you think, and my ego will either agree with you, or I'll attack your ego for I believe my ego is right.'

I'm not saying discussion is bad.

All I want to point out is if we get lost in the ego battles, then we need to notice that and see that it's our ego talking, BEFORE it gets ugly.

In spite of all that, I think that the 3DS is a damn fine piece of hardware, but it has its flaws. Just like everything has its flaws.

Yeah, pretty much this. It's like you post something and you basically get a response of 'there are LOADS of 3DS games to play' or 'sales are amazing there is no issue' or 'stop being negative'. Like you try and call something down the middle and make a statement and it's followed by a couple of posters basically saying you're wrong and overreacting...it's getting a bit tedious on this board, especially because for the most part we never get that on here (apart from when Zechs is about).

I think it works both ways.

People are positive - the people with a negative view of the 3DS feel the need to come out and say they are being wrong/unrealistic/whatever

People are negative - the people with a positive view come out in its defence, saying people are overreacting.

Both sides provide evidence, both sides have valid points. No need to get angry at each other about it.

It's a vicious circle.

This!

one misconception i've noticed with the representation of the 3DS in the media, is its sales are always compared to the DS, only the DS caught everyone by surprise and massively exceeded expectations. If you compare the 3DS sales to the GBA, DS and PSP's sales its not nearly as bad, its like comparing viewing figures of a sitcom to the peak viewing figures of another, you cannot expect them to exceed or even meet them really, you have to compare it with more than 1 item/product/entity for a fair picture

I like my 3DS its great and has some good games, its an amazing bit of kit and has lots of potential

But

It shouldn't have kept the DS name in it, people think its another model revision

It was released too soon and games weren't produced quickly enough for it

Its suffering from lack of games

if i balanced it all out on scales pro's to con's then its fairly balanced which isn't good but isn't too bad either

hopefully current drives and marketing campaigns are going to help it, and the more realistic pricing is great albeit 6 months too late.

as for defensive nintendo fans of late, i can't blame them really everyone has raged on nintendo/wii/ds for the past generation, i can understand them being defensive when nintendo have tried to address most of the hate about lack of power and third parties, yet it still doesn't quell the hate against them

that all said its no worse than the militantly defensive sony fans we've seen since the lack lustre psp and ps3 launches, they are jsut as bad as any "nintendrone" perhaps more so of late after the vita has lost one of the key things they bashed the 3DS on....battery life

I can remember all the "lol low battery sony are going to beat it and provide 8 hours hurr durr", then its announced its the same battery life AND sony are selling an expensive plug in portable charger and they've become even more defensive

simple fact is any fanboy is defensive and aggressive

I try not to be biased towards anyone, and just be a fan of good games regardless of any platform

Quote of the month.

This is actually what I was trying to say (albeit badly), not pick a fight. If I'm honest I don't think the Wii or DS were very good hardware, so any defence of them quite rightly rested on their software line-up. With the 3DS, though, I get the feeling people are enjoying it more, not being defensive of it for the sake of it, hence the term "Nintendrones" being far less applicable this time around.

Anyway, I don't even know why I'm typing this. I certainly don't want to get into an argument, and if you think about it, arguing about whether certain terms and insults are fair or not is incredibly sad. :heh: I'm sure we've all got better things to do.

Peace.

I was looking up Fifa 12 for 3DS, and found something very interesting. earlier EA had stated that the 3DS version of Fifa 12 will not include online play. and yet on 'Game' they say the opposite in the product details. I cant post the link because I havent made 15 posts or more. so go to game's uk website search for Fifa 12 3DS, and look under product details.

but this is what game have stated nonetheless: Head-to-Head Online - Play head-to-head online against a friend in authentic 11 versus 11 matches or 5 versus 5 street games using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

so I want to know if i've missed something recently or 'Game' has made a mistake, or they're just lying.

I wouldn't really trust LAME with anything at the minute.

I have been browsing their website loads today, trying to sort out my pre-orders for the rest of the year (of which there are many) and half of them say 'in stock'.

Sonic Generations for the 3DS is showing in stock so therefore I don't wanna click 'buy' in case they charge me for it! Unlikely, but since this new site layout - which I think is total shit - they don't seem to be able to get anything right.

If it weren't for the reward points then I would go elsewhere. But then saying that, they are meant to offer double reward points on pre-orders. But I have added games that aren't out yet to my pre-order list and it says I will earn the normal amount in points - not double.

LAME always have to do something to piss me off.

So now I have had to send an email to them to ask what's going on. It'll ake about 3 days for a response probably but I will post their response once I get it for those interested.

Damn, well I haven't used game that much at all, normally it was play, but personally they went downhill, now its pretty much Amazon, in terms of receiving your order on launch and for a better price than most other sites/stores.

Sorry I'm about 3 pages late but... I thought I was the only one who had to constantly press the power button too :P I thought maybe I wasn't pushing it in properly or I was just being impatient for it to start up.

My top screen always has an imprint of the whole botton screen and slide pad. It's so annoying, luckily though it does just wipe off and hasn't scratched yet.

And my hinge is already sounding terrible, it's really squeaky - I'm almost scared to open it too fast.

Right, I should be a 3DS owner this 12th of October, only problem I have now is which colour, my little brother has a black one so aqua blue was the obvious choice, but then this flame red one is coming out, now I'd usually go for the aqua blue in a choice between blue and red but the flame red 3DS just looks so eye catching.

There is absolutely no choice.

GET THE RED.

And watch this unboxing porn to push you over the edge:

I want the red

Game were seriously wrong, FIFA 12 3DS, has no online mode, although from what I've read it's a lot better than PES 2011. Hopefully FIFA 13 will make up for it.

football aside, I just noticed that Super Mario 3D Land, Tales of the Abyss, Sonic Generations & Mario Kart 7 are all being released in the space of 3 wks. (EU)

Super Mario 3D Land is also out on the same day as Zelda: Skyward Sword.

I think that's a bit of a naff move on Nintendos part, Zelda will likely eclipse Mario 3D :heh:

Also, damn I didn't know Tales of the Abyss was out in Nov, never mind Novement 10th, right in my middle of CoD:MW3 and Zelda... guess I'll be leaving that till the New Year... unless I can get someone to get for me as an Xmas gift :heh:... but already have the one likely person to get me a game for Xmas getting me Mario 3D Land :heh:
