Hero-of-Time Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) Details from that online playtest thingy have been leaked. Seems like some social online game/experiment. Certainly not up my alley of interest. Edited October 21 by Hero-of-Time 1
Ashley Posted October 21 Author Posted October 21 Well I guess that hopefully means that the Switchatwo will have improved online services. Maybe even, heaven forbid, voice chat!
MindFreak Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) Seems like a new Miiverse / Miitopia with simulation elements. But yeah, not my kind of thing. Edited October 21 by MindFreak
Dcubed Posted October 21 Posted October 21 (edited) Well... I can't get in right now. Says that the number of current online players exceeds the maximum supported by the game. Not quite sure how they managed to have more players than expected, considering that they artificially capped the number of participants at 10,000, but there ya go! BTW, something worth noting. I took a cheeky look at the Intellectual Property Notices tab on the Home Menu and I reckon that this is an internally developed first party EPD game. It has all the same tech notices as what the games made on EPD's own in-house engine tend to have (Immersion, Havok, FSR 1.0 etc), so it seems to be running on the same engine as the likes of BOTW, TOTK and Splatoon 3... So whatever this is, it seems to be a proper EPD game! Edited October 21 by Dcubed 2 1

It's a Nintendo online thing. Are you really that surprised. 2
RedShell Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Looks/sounds really cool. I see most people aren't too fussed about missing out on the test now that it's been revealed, but I'm actually slightly more annoyed that I didn't get in now. 1
killthenet Posted October 21 Posted October 21 The test period doesn't start until Thursday at 2am so that's why we can't get on at the moment Definitely not what I was expecting, and probably not my kind of thing, but I'm looking forward to trying it out. It looks quite bare bones visually, I wonder if it will be a new IP or if the final version will be tied to one of their established franchises when it is formally revealed Either way I think it will be core to the Switch 2's online and social features, like a central social hub
Dcubed Posted October 21 Posted October 21 Oh wait, I’m dumb. I didn’t even notice that it doesn’t start until the 24th… 1
Dcubed Posted October 22 Posted October 22 (edited) The final Sakurai on Creating Games video is now up! Edit: Sakurai confirmed that he started working on a new game in April 2022! That's insane that he was working on both the channel and his new game at the same time for two whole years! Edited October 22 by Dcubed 1
Hero-of-Time Posted October 23 Posted October 23 Just realised my copy of Mario Party Jamboree came with a code for 7 days trial for NSO. If anyone wants it let me know.
killthenet Posted November 4 Posted November 4 If Nintendo are going to even mention the Switch successor before 2025 it will have to come tomorrow morning in their financial briefing. If there is any kind of statement it will obviously be light on the details but we could feasibly get a release window out of them like we did when they first mentioned the NX. Otherwise I'm interested to see the figures for Echoes of Wisdom and what the current total of Switch's sold is - will it be high enough for a good Holiday season to push it beyond the DS? 1

BowserBasher Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Hey Mario Kart, don’t you think you’ve sold enough, time to give others a chance. It’s insane that it’s still selling those numbers. 1
bob Posted November 5 Posted November 5 34 minutes ago, Ike said: Compare the fact it "only" sold 8.46 million on the Wii U. Considering they only sold like 30 Wii Us, I think that pretty impressive.
Dcubed Posted November 5 Posted November 5 (edited) If they reach their revised forecast (which seems pretty reasonable), they'll be at approx 153m units by the end of March... Beating that bloody woman's record the PS2's record is all but assured at this point. Edited November 5 by Dcubed
Ashley Posted November 5 Author Posted November 5 If I'm doing the maths right that's 44% of Switch consoles sold also have Mario Kart 8. That's a hell of an attachment rate. 1

Julius Posted December 11 Posted December 11 Monolith Soft are now 100% owned by Nintendo. From VGC: Quote As spotted by Automaton, the company page on the Xenoblade studio’s website says it has a total of 2,400 shares, and that 100% of these are owned by Nintendo. While there’s no indication of exactly when this took place, it appears to have been some time in the past couple of months, because until recently Nintendo had 96% of the shares. Archived versions of the page from the Wayback Machine show that as recently as October 1, the company’s records still showed Nintendo owning 2,320 shares of the total 2,400. The remaining 80 shares had been owned by Monolith Soft‘s co-founders Hirohide Sugiura, Tetsuya Takahashi and Yasuyuki Honne. By the time the Wayback Machine next archived the page on November 21, the records had been changed to show Nintendo owning all 100% of the shares. Not hard to imagine that the founders got a pretty penny for selling their shares at this point – Monolith Soft have become nothing less than essential to Nintendo on the Switch. Looking forward to seeing what they can cook up on its successor! 2 1
Dcubed Posted December 11 Posted December 11 Makes me wonder if the three co-founders are looking to retire...
