navarre
This has been the topic of heated discussion on another forum I frequent. Should Scotland gain independence? Why should it/not? What benefits would it bring? Personally, I am against Scotland breaking up from the UK. England and Scotland have always enjoyed friendly banter (and not so friendly wars), but the losses economically, politically and generally would be huge for both sides. Debate away. Sanchez
Didn't we have this thread recently? No, that wouldn't be beneficial for either side.
Jav_NE
I cant honestly say i know of any benefits/hinderances it would bring to either side. How much money do we actually gain from the relationship? What do they help with politically? Despite being totally un-educated on this issue, i say let them go if they want, it would be better than fighting.

Well Gordon Brown the Prime Minister being Scottish is one thing they bring to the table politically.
Paj!
Good god, no. What reason is there to seperate? Scotland's parliament is annoyingly crap at doing anything, so for the love of mercy, keep us together.
chairdriver
We sponge alot from England, so the unionship is good for us.

gaggle64
I'm actually quite supportive of Scottish Independence. I mean, it's really their decision anyway, and at least I'll have somewhere to claim asylum when England votes Torie. I also don't buy into this vague idea that the whole island will rapidly descend into a cross between the cold war and the Jacobite revolution if Scotland decides to go it's own way. conzer16
Could Scotland survive economically on it's own? I wouldn't think so to be honest.
MoogleViper
So long as there is still oil in the North Sea Scotland won't be going anywhere. Correct, most of the oil would be in Scottish waters.
Gizmo
Could Scotland survive economically on it's own? I wouldn't think so to be honest. Probably yes, but not as healthily as in the UK. Although a healthy economy isn't exactly on the "pro" list for the UK right now.

Charlie
Correct, most of the oil would be in Scottish waters. It's debateable who would own the oil if Scotland got independence. Right now, the oil is owned by the country which it resides in which happens to be The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Why should Scotland get it if we get indepedence? It's the UK's oil, not Scotland's. The fairest way to do it would to distribute it out by population proportions. If they did that Scotland would not be able to support themselves, if Scotland got all the oil, we would be very rich as the rest of the UK would need us. I'm absolutely 100% against Scottish independence, we need the rest of the UK. The way we have at the moment is working well for us, the Scottish Government is doing pretty well at the moment and apart from the independence, I like what Alex Salmond is doing. Only problem with what we have at the moment is the West Lothian Question. This is off topic but it's related to Scotland. Has anybody here had a deep fried Mars bar? What are they like? Heart attack in a bar.

The fish
Deep Fried Twix is better. Deep fried pizza is by far the best. It's something like 2000 calories, but when it's a cold, rainy, wind-swept day in Malaig, you need it. I reckon that if independence does come about, it'll be because England and Wales wants Scotland out, as Scotland is an economic drain, especially in terms of the NHS, to the rest of the UK. I'm against independence overall, though - the union works pretty damn well...
KKOB
I say get rid of scotland is they want to be independant and see how long they last with their so called 'economy' which is entirely based on americans visit castles and lock ness. I get really fucked off when scottish people claim that independence would be a good thing. The SNP are a bunch of dickheads.
