Indigo Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 This is a Roman Catholic tradition following the practice of Christ and the Jews in setting aside days where the church fasts and prays as one in a constant attitude of renewal and worship. Abstaining from meat is a form of fasting, and Good Friday is typically a day where this is practised because of it being a day to which special significance is attached in remembering Jesus' death. I don't practice this tradition - but I respect the idea. There's little value in doing it just for the sake of it though.
Hellfire Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I ate meat at lunch and I intend to eat meat at dinner. mmm Meat. Hope dinastygal's reading this.

Something just occurred to me..... why do they call it "Good Friday" or was the name thought up by a non-christian as a joke that the christians of the time didn't get:heh:
Platty Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Don't really stick to anything but we tend to have fish on good friday.
Konfucius Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I didn't eat meat today, as a matter of fact I only ate once excluding an apple for dinner.

Re: evolution - I see no problem with God orchestrating it, though the nudgy thing really grates as I'm sure you'd be able to tell. Surely God could big bang the universe and be awesome enough to see the consequences of this right down to present day? Okay, there're random factors involved but this is a perfect being we're talking about. On topic: I'd vaguely heard of this meat thingy, and never followed it, at least not on purpose.
Raining_again Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 My family isn't at all religious. I had beef stew for dinner. It was lovely. I don't know why people suffer for faith..
jayseven Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Im about to eat duck from the chinese so.. That's practically fish, you're fine. I had tuna pasta for breakfast, so I guess I'm a-ok? Got a tin of corned beef that's been giving me the eye for a while now, that I might just guzzle down with a tin of beans and a stack of bread and a moat of pot-noodle. I came thinking about it.
Roostophe Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I just had a huge bastard of a hot dog. (Well, it wasn't actually a hot dog. It was a bunch of sausages in a baguette.) I eat meat every day. I could actually tell you what meat I eat on a particular day. Hope dinastygal's reading this. Exactly what I was thinking.
MoogleViper Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 In honour of Jesus I didn't beat my meat today.
ShadowV7 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 You don't eat meet on Good Fridays? Well I had a Chinese buffet for dinner so I failed then.
Dog-amoto Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I just had eggs on toast today. Only because i was throwing up most of the day yesterday and that's all I feel up to eating.
RoadKill Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I'm not religious in any sense but I'm a vegan so I guess I didn't eat meat on good friday
Roostophe Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I'm not religious in any sense but I'm a vegan so I guess I didn't eat meat on good friday *Eats a chicken in front of RoadKill to see what sort of reaction he would get.*
Aimless Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 As a general rule I don't eat much meat. It isn't really a matter of principle, I just... don't. Having said that I had pork fajitas for tea, and very nice they were too.
fex Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 (edited) Just a normal vegetarian day for me.... ________ Boat Edited April 28, 2011 by fex

Mikey Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 What I like to do is to go to the outside of a Church with some ham, some bread, and make some ham sandwiches. Then when people pass by to go in to the Church, I eat them It's grand.
RoadKill Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 *Eats a chicken in front of RoadKill to see what sort of reaction he would get.* If you think I'd even slightly care, you have no idea how wrong you are, I've been vegan for ~7 years or something stupid, and I've heard it all, and to be honest I rarely tell anyone I am because I hate the way people might change how they view you
Marshmellow Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Mmm I don't follow religion, but I don't eat meat anyway soo.. no, I did/will not eat meat today.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 ...You guys are animals, I mean 'eating meat' doesn't that sound a tad bit barbaric? I never touch the stuff. :p

Some of us are still trying to get over it... Not me, though. Some of the other forum members.
