Dante Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 "Family Guy's" henpecked husband Cleveland Brown might be getting his own show. The Fox network and the show's producer, 20th Century Fox TV, are developing a spin-off from their hit animated series centered on Peter Griffin's bathtub-accident-prone neighbor, sources said. The project, tentatively titled "Cleveland," is being written by "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, Mike Henry -- a writer/producer who voices Cleveland -- and Rich Appel, an executive producer on MacFarlane's other Fox cartoon, "American Dad." Cleveland, who plays off black stereotypes, is the most levelheaded among Griffin's trio of friends. He's also pushed around by his wife. Once canceled by Fox, "Family Guy" triumphantly returned on the network in 2005. It is Fox's top-rated comedy and has grown into a $1 billion franchise with red-hot DVD and merchandise sales. Fox executives have made it a priority to find another hit animated comedy to complement their Sunday comedy lineup. They have several cartoons in the works, including an animated version of the 2003 short-lived live-action comedy "The Pitts." In addition to "Cleveland," Fox is also developing a spin-off of the drama series "Prison Break," set at a female prison. ca.reuters.com

Aimless Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I don't find American Dad very funny and Family Guy itself seems to be getting a bit tired. In other words, I do not have high hopes for this.
Happenstance Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Yeah read about this earlier. I havent been the biggest fan of Family Guy since its return from cancellation but I cant really understand this. Why base a spin off on one of the shows most boring characters?
kyletherobot Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I've only seen up to the end of season 5 and unless Cleveland got funny in the time since, this will be rubbish. I got bored of Family Guy.
Supergrunch Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Why not Quagmire? Yeah, Quagmire would be a LOT better -_- Whooo else but QUAGMIRE! *cough* But yeah, this seems a step too far, though I do love Family Guy.
Konfucius Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Quagmire was my first thought as well. Cleveland is so annoying and I wonder how they will do this. I mean that show needs a runtime of two hours if Cleveland is supposed to speak more than two sentences per episode. Fox give us Futurama instead!
CoolFunkMan Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Hmm, not sure about this one. I don't think Cleveland is a strong enough character to get his own spinoff. Plus, how will they do this? Will he possibly leave Quahog? Tbh, that's the only way I can see it going... Quagmire would deffinitely be a much better spinoff. But, again, I can only see this being pulled off if he leaves Quahog, and he's too awesome to leave Family Guy.
Coolness Bears Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Oh now your Just being crazy! This is very odd news. I quite like Cleveland but he definately not a character that warrents a spin of series! I don't think there should be any spin off series! I don't think it would work!
Roostophe Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I'm with everyone else. I just cannot see this working aand it ought to be Quagmire! Giggety etc.
MoogleViper Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 He's also pushed around by his wife. Cleveland has no wife. Anyway I'll keep an open mind for this. Never know it might be good.
Blackfox Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I rally enjoy American Dad - more so than family guy. Maybe this will be good I'm thinking.
Mundi Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Same here, I think the quality of the recent Family Guy episodes have been dropping while American Dad keeps getting better. Or maybe I´m just getting tired that the show relies too much on random scenes
somme Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 American Dad keeps getting better.Or maybe I´m just getting tired that the show relies too much on random scenes Yeah. South Park made me realise this in the episode, "Cartoon Wars" lol.
Emasher Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Wow, a crappy sounding spin off of a show thats been going downhill since it began. Some one needs to tell these people that the writers strike is over.
ReZourceman Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Female Prison Break? Are you fucking kidding me?
