The characters we now know are not playable. Minus points for these losers! Waluigi @bob @RedShell @Julius Caesar Lyn @Jonnas @Ugh first aid @Julius Caesar Takamaru @Jonnas Bomberman @Glen-i @Nintendo Fan @Fused King @Dcubed @Julius Caesar @S.C.G Alolan Raichu @Vileplume2000 Yeah, no-one expected the no cuts. It's beautiful! With the returning Veterans, we're at 9 characters revealed now. Alolan Raichu was just shown as a Pokeball item Pokemon during treehouse. Sorry. Pichu is more important. Bomberman totally killed in the disappointment there. 6 people getting screwed in the points department there. I'm gonna look through the screenshots of the websites to see if I can spot any other dreams to stamp on. And here's how the points are tallied up. @markderoos: 3 points @Fused King: 2 points @Glen-i @Ugh first aid@GenericAperson@Nintendo Fan@[email protected]: 1 point @Vileplume2000@Nicktendo@EEVILMURRAY@Mandalore: 0 points @Jonnas@bob@RedShell@Julius Caesar: -1 point

Speaking of Phil, this quote from the recent interview in the Guardian is great. This is a fantastic message and one gamers on the internet, including here, need to take note of.

For sure. I was literally nodding off by that point too (after what seemed like 10 hours of pirate ship footage ) but when those SNES Lylat voices kicked in I was like "Whoa!!" This perfectly captures my reaction:

I'm gonna go ahead and give my rankings for the conferences before Smash Hype clouds my judgment. Starting from worst. EA - Lootbox out of 10. Just like my reaction to any game with those demon boxes. I gave EA a wide berth. I don't care what they show, I know I won't enjoy it. So why bother? Highlight of show: When Microsoft's show started. PC Gaming Show - It's better, now it sucks out of 10. I like myself a cringe worthy conference. It's the main reason I watch Ubisoft's conference. Unfortunately, PC Gaming Show kinda professional'd up. And the game's just couldn't carry it for me. Didn't watch the whole thing. Highlight of show - Those two Taxi Cab Visual Novels have very nice artstyles and are intriguing. Sony - I don't wanna go to Church out of 10 - It's quite amazing how much of a shambles that was. Sony announced stuff far too early last year and it certainly showed this year. It took 45 minutes to get to the third game shown. Last of Us 2 went waaaayyyy too long. It picked up a bit toward the end, but it wasn't gonna salvage that terrible start and the lack of new games. Highlight of show - That brief moment when I thought "Witness murder from a Mouse's viewpoint" game was a thing. Square Enix - Eh out of 10 Kingdom Hearts was already shown, everything else was pretty inconsequential. Highlight of show - Watching the Stream Chat become an avalanche of people wondering where FF7 Remake is at the end of the show. Bethesda - Decent out of 10 Bethesda isn't quite my kind of game company, but I have to say, they did a good job. Plus, that rock band was pointless but played quite a cool song. Which is always a plus. Highlight of show - Someone shouted "Eff Nazis!" You have to smile at that. Limited Run Games - Hilariously small budget out of 10. It was pretty cringe, but hey, there's some GIF material there. Limited Run's conference was a nice way of discovering some cool Indie games you might have missed. They do good work and I wish them continued success. Plus they actually had a Car on stage! Highlight of show - That Switch console animation broke me. Too funny! Microsoft - Surprisingly Good out of 10 Microsoft normally end up near the bottom of my list, but they did well this time. Some nice stuff to see there. Nothing that truly astonishes me. But there's stuff I'm looking forward to. Thankfully, they're coming to PC, so don't have to worry about actually getting an XBox. Shame Microsoft didn't unveil their new car on stage though. Highlight of show - I know it was shown in other places, but Kingdom Hearts 3 is looking really nice. Getting remarkably close to looking like a Pixar movie. Ubisoft - Well done out of 10. The only conference to elicit a "No way!" out of me. So Ubisoft has to be up high for that reason alone. Some cool games, some "What's the point of this?" cringe and awesome orchestral music from Grant Kirkhope. This conference was solid. Highlight of show - Of course it's the "Suddenly, Star Fox cameo" moment. Pretty well played and it's bound to rocket the Switch version of Star Link to the top. Devolver Digital - YES! out of 10 It wasn't quite as amazing as last year. But Devolver showed that last year wasn't just a fluke. Nina Struthers is totally the best host ever. There's only two games I'm interested in and yet I was thoroughly entertained. Plus it managed to end on a great cliffhanger that makes me want to see next year's conference right now. Seriously, Check a Look. Highlight of show - Let's get a Dreamcast, paint over it and use it to rip on Nintendo and their Mini consoles. Great stuff!

I downloaded the press pack for this from Nintendo, about 900mb worth! Enormous high res renders of every new character portrait, with mind-boggling detail. Even more impressive, those group artworks, one of which is 20,000 pixels across. I've just spent a good 5-10 minutes zoomed in at 100% in awe... Warning, huge files

Hey guys, long time no see. I hope you're all well! Just dropping in to say, that was disappointing. They couldn't even keep to their own "games to be released in 2018" tweet. Ridley announcement was ace though. Laughed like a mother fucker

By the way: Friendly advice (@Glen-i JUST advice) to all the newcomers: Get used to building. Enable the "Builder Pro" controls and practice. I've neglected building at first and got my ass handed to me. Having the high ground is everything in this game, so build build build Edit: Best mode to practice right now: 50v50. Two teams of 50 players (duh), you have enough time to gather materials/weapons/ammo and move to the circle to enter a huge fight. Watch others build, try to build and just have fun

Trust a third party dev to offer a more convenient voice chat option than Nintendo itself

Ports, DLC, a remake of an ancient GBC game and two actual new games, both of which we've known about for over a year? No, not really.

Gotta say, I'm very surprised this isn't launching alongside Nintendo's online service. It could do with a headline game to help the service at launch and this could have been it.

"Look at this super smash animation, this time [Character X] makes an appearance!"
  32. 2 points
That was so weird. It wasn't structured like their Directs usually are and it wasn't like their previous E3 ones. Then it just ended. I mean what was shown was nice I guess, but that wasn't a good presentation.

I can't quite recall - Wasn't there a lot we didn't know about Breath of The Wild back then? This took the piss naming every character and then going through (nearly?) all of them just to say "we've tweaked them a little"
  34. 2 points
Far too much Smash Bros. They could have had a smash Bros direct for that at another time. E3 not the place to dedicate so much time to one game.
  35. 2 points
The Direct started out really strongly and then just sort of... ended?
  36. 2 points
I agree, it should have had it's own Direct.

I think it stands a good chance of releasing by 2020 - at the latest. Despite having seen more gameplay from The Last of Us Part II, I think Kojima is having a field day with misleading our expectations, and that this game will release before TLOUII: everything that we know about the game up to this point, outside of trailers, points to it being much further along than we currently think it is. I also think that there's a very good chance that some of the amazing folks over at Guerrilla Games have been working alongside Kojima Productions on this game, and that's why it could be so far along. I remain an optimist Also...

The trailer showed during the conference got me quite conflicted. The trailer is fine but the whole 1st person sequence got me thinking the plot would be that you witness a murder from the point of view of a mouse/rat and it got me kinda intrigued because it's quite a unique concept and I was wondering how it worked. But then Leon showed up. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed that the game I imagined it might be doesn't exist.

I reckon, what, another 10-15 years before devs/publishers have the balls to show two blokes kissing like that in a AAA game?

Get used to it. 3 more of those to come. And nothing else.
