dwarf Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Well I think it was slightly overrated. I think I wanted more of something but I don't know what. I thought the Joker was going to be cooler, and to be fair he was good, but something was definetly missing. I think other films in the genre usually have 1 outstanding stunt that shines above the rest whereas this just had a collection of very decent ones. Not sure if that is it though.
Daft Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Yeah, that sums up my feelings. I just think the length stops it from really being one of my favourite films
dwarf Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Personally I didn't think the length affected the film. In the new King Kong it did because they had loads of filler and multiple scenes weren't necessary, but in Dark Knight I thought each scene was worthy of a place in the film. But yeah, I wasn't blown away. I was ready and waiting for the awesomeness and I wanted to like it more but it slightly underachieved.
Chris the great Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 benjamin button really enjoyed it, it was long, not a greqat deal happened yet i wasnt bored. my freind and i both said it was reminicant of forest gump. also, the start of the film, talking about the clock. woah. i never cry, ever. espcialy not to movies. but the sentiment of it brought a lump to my throat. the effects were increadable, though it did just seem like a vessle for brad pitt to get his shirt off. oh, and by the way, i totaly would do brad pitt. im straight, but god hes good looking. 8/10
Jav_NE Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 The Devil's Chair Erm, what? That's all i have to say really I wasn't impressed at all. The acting took a severe drop when the bloodshed started and the "twist" was just as pathetic. No suspense, little to no intrigue and shocking acting. Probably one of the worst horror films i've seen, if you can call it that. 3/10 Burn After Reading Again, what? lol. Not quite sure what the purpose of this film was. I get the feeling they were going for an In Bruges type of film, but failed. Thats not to say it was all bad though, i liked many scenes in the film, mostly those with Brad Pitt as he was so funny and loveable in his character. Still, there was no pay off for watching the film really, and thats pretty bad. It might be better on a second watch, but for now it remains pretty average. 6/10 Tropic Thunder I expected this to be funnier. Loved the intro with the fake movie trailers. That was hilarious, probably the funniest thing in the whole film though. There were some good parts, but it wasnt up to Ben Stiller's usual high standards. Robert Downey gave the best performance, but even though he performed as a great black ma, and an aussie, he still wasnt that funny. The conecpt of the film is good, it just seems to lose its way and drag on half way through. I dunno, i think the whole film needed more work (which is weird as apparently Stiller has had this film in mind for 10 years). Funny in parts though, and worth watching just to see the Tom Cruise dance. That actually had me in tears. 7/10
Nolan Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Zack and Miri make a Porno Funny throughout the movie, with a few big laughs here and there. 8/10

It did seem to drag in the middle, thought the beginning was pretty good, landmine was funny! And though it picked up towards the end; really enjoyed the last 20mins or so! and the kid being flung off the bridge was funny! Tropic Thunder: 7/10

"I was wrrrrooonnngggg!!!" Awesome explosion too. Stiller is pretty buff, he could be in more action films if he wanted to i reckon.
Hero-of-Time Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 A Beautiful Mind I have been wanting to see this for ages now and I finally snapped it up on DVD the other day. I thought it was a fantastic film with great performances by Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly. I was quite surprised to find out that [spoiler=] Crowe had indeed lost the plot but I thought it was great that he never completely got rid of his imaginary friends but just learned to deal with them. I was also quite touched by the scene where Crowe was having tea and then everyone came over and gave him their pens. Awesome film. 10/10
nightwolf Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Valkyrie Actually this film was pretty damn good, interesting to watch and even Tom Cruise did a good job with acting. I'd recommend people to see this, I hated the ending, rooting for the home team. I also loved that it was based on a real story 9/10
Retro_Link Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Valkyrie I also loved that it was based on a real story.I'd kinda like to see this, but in a way that's the thing that's putting me off going a bit, because surely we know how the overall story ends... they don't kill him!... and I wouldn't be surprised if they all get whipped out!
DuD Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 finally pulled my finger out and watched taken. two word review...."Fuckin Epic". another gem from neeson
Chris the great Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 totaly forgot about it yesterday ghost dog: way of the samurai nice idea, east meats west. you could see at times the film was very eastern in its approach, and more western at outhertimes. i liked the way it used extracts from the way of the samurai, but all in all, the film felt shallow, undercooked. alot of potential never realised. also, if your going to show a man practicing swordsmanship, give him a sword fight. its not hard. 6/10
Slaggis Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 High School Musical 3 (Extended Dvd) As expected, I loved it all over again. Some abysmal acting, some terrible plot lines and some truly cringe-worthy moments...but somehow it works. Beyond fun to watch, I laughed damn hard so many times. The bloopers, when Ryan jumps on another guy and pretends to make out with him, and then Efron asking if Vanessa "Wanted a ride" were HILARIOUS...they seemed a tad out of place on a Disney dvd. Enjoyment rating = 9 Sydney White Odd. But is has Bynes in, who I love to bits. A modern retelling of Snow white...with some bitchy blonde types mixed in for fun. 6
Cube Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 The Forbidden Kingdom I thought I was in for something terrible when the film started - the first fight scene is one of the worst I've ever seen in the film. Luckily, the rest of the film was awesome, with loads of great fights. Pretty much no decent plot. Still, very enjoyable and it had loads of lovely locations. Although for some reason I kept thinking that the kid was Shia Lebouf. 8/10
Choze Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Saw Milk and Slumdog Millionaire. Both were good but nothing special. Milk is not very original. Slumdog was enjoyable I'd give them both 6-8's's.
chairdriver Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 The Simpsons Movie Far better than expected. I love the select bits which are 3-D. Feels funny. And I love some of the subtle humour - "An Irritating Truth" and the Raquel Welch look-a-like at the scene where they return to Springfield. 8/10
Daft Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Milk is not very original. But it's a true story. How does originality come into it?

Slumdog was enjoyable I'd give them both 6-8's's. What do you mean not original? In the way it was filmed? It's a true story, so originality doesn't really come into it. But it's a true story. How does originality come into it? Almost word-for-word snap!
Nolan Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Donnie Darko ... 10/10 What a wonderful explanation on your thoughts of the movie.
Daft Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 What a wonderful explanation on your thoughts of the movie. I'm slightly drunk so I'm not feeling too verbal. I could talk about the film for hours. I've seen it about 8 times. I hadn't seen it for ages though before tonight. Almost word-for-word snap! Great minds!
