Cube Posted Friday at 04:16 PM Posted Friday at 04:16 PM So after multiple contradictory and confusing statements from Nintendo, Marvelous Games are the ones to finally explain the Switch 2 Edition cartridges with Rune Factory. The S2E of Rune Factory will come on a red 64GB cartridge. However, it will work on both the original Switch and the Switch 2. The upgrade patch is on the cartridge and will load if plugged into a Switch 2, or it will just load the original version when plugged into a Switch. All in all, a really good way to do it, which makes the bizarre communication from Nintendo even more confusing. 1 1
Glen-i Posted Friday at 04:44 PM Posted Friday at 04:44 PM (edited) @Dcubed said this is basically the same as Game Boy Colour hybrid cartridges (Link's Awakening DX, etc), and yeah, that's pretty much spot on. Edited Friday at 04:44 PM by Glen-i 1
Dcubed Posted Friday at 04:47 PM Author Posted Friday at 04:47 PM (edited) Marvellous news! There. Was that so hard Nintendo? Honestly, I don’t understand why they had such difficulty explaining this, they’re already doing these Switch 2 Editions in the best way possible. Why bother trying to hide this info!? If you’ve got a physical Switch 1 collection, it’s time to start selling them and upgrading Edited Friday at 04:47 PM by Dcubed 1
Kav Posted Friday at 06:28 PM Posted Friday at 06:28 PM I want to get hyped for Switch 2 but I just can’t bring myself to support the higher game prices. Can’t believe I’m not getting the console as it stands. 1 1

Can’t believe I’m not getting the console as it stands. What's annoying about the higher prices is that I guarantee something like Mario Kart will have DLC or some kind of season pass somewhere down the line. So what went from a £40 + extras has now gone to a £70 + extras. Shawn Layden (ex PlayStation boss) gave an interview the other day and this issue was discussed. Ultimately, Nintendo have people by the short and curlies because if you want to play the latest Nintendo made games, then you have no choice but to pay the higher price. Nintendo know this and they can afford to do it. Had the Switch been a failure then I don't think they would be pulling this move but, like every gaming company after a successful generation, arrogance sets in. Despite the high prices, I imagine it will do stupidly well, just as the Switch has. Nintendo pretty much have the Japanese locked down at this point and most gaming outlets/sites and stupidly excited for it. Like you, the price of software has put me off the thing but also the software that the console is launching with. It's a VERY weak line up, with no big Nintendo single player game being ready at launch. I'm still baffled why the line up is so poor. Considering how long the original Switch has been going they should have had an amazing software schedule going. As it stands, it's relying heavily on upgrades and old 3rd party games. 2

In all honesty, Metroid Prime 4 is the only game that has me wanting to get the console… the mouse controls and performance really sell it to me over the Switch version.
Dcubed Posted Friday at 09:41 PM Author Posted Friday at 09:41 PM (edited) Slight spoilers for Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, but it actually tells you how physical Switch 1 BC works on Switch 2… There’s an indent on the Red Cards. This is done in order to have the Switch 1 cards press down on a button inside the Switch 2 cartridge slot to tell the console something along the lines of “This is a Switch 1 cartridge, down clock and undervolt the cartridge slot, then boot up this game in the hardware interpretation mode”. If this mechanism sounds familiar, it should; because this is how GB/C backwards compatibility worked on the GBA. They’re using the same mechanism again… Lateral Thinking With Withered Technology baby! Edited Friday at 09:45 PM by Dcubed 2 1
Cube Posted Friday at 09:46 PM Posted Friday at 09:46 PM So if you added a bit to a S2E game to push down the button, it would boot it up as the Switch 1 version (not that there would ever be a reason to do so)? Also, there are some fantastic games in the launch line up (Split Fiction is probably the best game of the PS5 generation), but many are games already out elsewhere.

Great. You’re gonna get me messing around with blutac to see if this works now. I mean, Switch 1 wasn’t exactly bursting with original titles on Day 1 either; hell it was living off of Wii U ports and Wii U Ports Disguised As Sequels for more or less the first two years of its life 1

You could even say that it activates a switch. 3 1
Glen-i Posted Saturday at 01:54 PM Posted Saturday at 01:54 PM PEGI rating for Assasin's Creed: Shadows has updated to include Switch 2. Nice to see them putting some effort in this time.

Gonna ride it out a while longer with the Switch (1) til I see how the 2's shaping up. 19 hours ago, Hero-of-Time said: What's annoying about the higher prices is that I guarantee something like Mario Kart will have DLC or some kind of season pass somewhere down the line. Unless the thing doesn't meet expectations they'll expect everyone to pay through the nose for every single thing. 19 hours ago, Hero-of-Time said: Shawn Layden (ex PlayStation boss) Not the snowboarder or the professor? 19 hours ago, Hero-of-Time said: Like you, the price of software has put me off the thing but also the software that the console is launching with. So many question marks over it but the games are what you buy it for. You'd have thought first-party stuff dwindling out on Switch pointed towards them just keeping it ticking over while they got ready to come flying out of the blocks on the next console. I've nothing against the upgrade packs but since they're leading with them and there's so little else from Nintendo, it just looks like they want to just keep selling the same games again like they already did with the Wii U ports. And I think it was @RedShell commented earlier in the thread, what's going on with pitting a new Kirby's Air Ride directly against the new Mario Kart...? 2

Happenstance Posted yesterday at 10:44 AM Posted yesterday at 10:44 AM I haven't decided what I'm going to do with my preorder yet. I got a bit swept up in all the announcement stuff initially, not even the games though, just the idea of a new console but as time has gone on I'm getting less and less interested.
MindFreak Posted yesterday at 11:46 AM Posted yesterday at 11:46 AM I'm looking forward to getting a new console and a new Mario Kart. Yeah, it sorely misses a first party single player game, and it baffles me they didn't just release DK Bananza along with the console, but I think they want to give third party games a better chance at performing well. Game prices have gone up but so has development and everything else. Hopefully they don't release many games at the highest price tag, though, but their dead certain bangers are going to be that price. Smash, Zelda and Mario main games I guess. I'll probably be playing a few of my backlog games on Switch 2 initially but that's fine, the better and bigger screen and controller is a good enough reason for getting it early.

Come to think of it... you're right. This is the first time we've ever had a new console launch without a 1st party game without some sort of significant single player mode available on Day 1. DK Bananza would be it, but that's not coming out until the month after launch day.

Cube Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I didn't actually notice that DK wasn't a launch title because it seems too absurd for it to not be a launch title.

I think I'm just used to it now so I don't even think about it but its such a pain

I would love to see the gifting option make a return from the Wii days. It was such a great feature and I'm baffled why modern consoles don't allow for it
