Looking at all those different images though I can't help but wonder why he's drunk?

When you have woefully low base stats of 440, no evolution and get shafted by not getting a Mega Evolution in the remake of the generation that you debuted in, drink is the only answer.

Setting up shop in the middle of dangerous dungeons takes a toll

Also add to the list that you have yet to debut in Pokémon Go when gen 6 Pokémon are being released before you.

Ah well, silver linings and all that.

Kecleon is definitely up there in the "Most forgotten by Game Freak" category. I honestly think that the only one more forgotten is the Shinx family. 3 generations on the trot that they've been absent from a mainline game. (Sword/Shield finally fixed this in it's DLC)

That sharing photos thing made me wonder how much agency you'll have in this game. The original, fun as it may be, had a limited number of shots you could take. If that's the same here it makes that whole rating thing moot.

The graphics are nice but the gameplay looks like it would put me to sleep. I don't think it's for me now that the wonder of seeing Pokémon in their own environments in 3D isn't a dream come true like it was in my childhood '64 days.

I can't help but think that this game just looks boring, like @Josh64 above. I didn't play the original so that makes me impervious to nostalgia, and to me, personally, I don't care about high scores anymore so replaying the same level over and over again to get a better score / picture doesn't really appeal to me.

Pokemon Snap is secretly a Star Fox spinoff in disguise...

It's a surprisingly fun arcade score attack game!

I'm looking forward to it because it's chilled out and not a huge game. I barely play games anymore but I feel like this will be a good game for bite sized (and maybe 'bisexual' as my phone originally suggested) gameplay with low stress. Plus I won't have to remember what I was doing when I last played it.

Yeah, see, I have no interest in this at all, exactly because it does not look chilled out to me. With starfox, things pop up, and I shoot it. With this? Things pop up, but you have to wait for the right moment to shoot it! Oh wait, what item do I use? Wait, what's in the other direction?? I really can't be arsed with this. I'm really hankering for a good photography game or game with a good photography mode, and this won't be it. I just want to explore, relax, and discover new photo opportunities at my own pace, without some artificial time limit.

Here's hoping Legends Arceus has an elaborate photomode.

There's one key difference between Star Fox and Pokémon Snap though.

Star Fox encourages you to shoot as many things as possible in one run. The more, the better.

Pokémon Snap's scoring system is categorised by Pokémon. You try snapping everything in one go and you'll probably end up with a bunch of mediocre pictures. It's far better to have one Pikachu pic be worth 5,000 points than 20 different Pokémon worth 1,000.

The idea is to experiment with multiple runs and see how different Pokémon can be manipulated to get the shot you're aiming for. (Fits the frame, nice and big, in the center, facing you, doing something interesting)

All this talk of shooting in Star Fox compared with Snap keeps reminding me of this wonderful dad joke from Veronica Mars where her father catches a mark in the act by taking photos of him and threatens him with the following line:

Quote

The next time I shoot you, it won’t be digitally. Unless I hit you in the finger, then we’ll have a big laugh about it.

Anyway, that's out of my system now. Proceed.

Most mind-blowing thing for me is that you aren't throwing apples?! Don't know how I missed that detail before.

Wait what!?

Game ruined! Might as well move on!

Snap without some form of Charmander Pinball is just not worth bothering with!

I think snowman was referring to the fact that the fruits aren't actually called "apples".

Makes sense: Crash Bandicoot was dead to me when I learned he wasn't actually collecting bunches of my second-favourite fruit.

A bunch of previews have popped up for New Pokémon Snap, which seem to be based on a showcase instead of a hands-on. Only had the time to read the Dutch one, but they seem fairly positive but are hesitant because the showcase obviously only highlights the good bits.

Here's some more videos coming out now...

Of note:
- Gyro controls are confirmed! You can also control the game with the analog stick.
- Full voice acting for cutscenes, a first for any Pokémon game.
- Along with throwing Lumina Orbs/Puff Fruit and playing music, you can scan your surroundings and get details on Pokémon by hitting the X button. This may make some Pokémon react to you.
- Different Pokémon will appear in both the day and night versions of levels, and Pokémon may be doing different things (an Exeggutor shown playing in the day is shown later asleep at night)
-The beach level shown had a branching path, which means there may be a lot of them throughout the game.
- You can only customize your character's gender, hair, and skin color at the beginning of the game. There will be no further customization options.

Well this all looks really nice! Looks like they're doing everything right with this sequel! Really glad to see that environmental interactivity & branching paths are still a big focus :D

Like the idea of different Pokemon appearing during day/night and with the Pokemon encounters changing/developing as the game goes on too :)

I'm looking forward to this coming out and just spending that weekend chilling out taking photos. I just wish it was coming out at the start of my leave rather than end but hey ho.

Looks stunning and I can’t wait to get taking photos. I do hope there’s the option to share via Twitter and not just in game sharing of photos.

Also I do not know why this is not yet up for preorder on the official Nintendo store yet.

Probably not for me (ironically given I'm a photographer), but it does look really great!

Well I'm an IT specialist but I wouldn't play a game where I would have to advice people about their IT hardware infrastructure so fair enough. ;)

I'm assuming you can screenshot and share that way if nothing else.

Hoping so, I've given up the online account!
