Have any of you who have preordered a PS5 gone for the all digital edition?

I know I could scroll back to see but I just wondered if anyone was going all in with digital this gen and if so, why? Sorry if it has already been discussed at length.

When I think about my recent gaming purchases, most of them have been digital. Apart from maybe new games which I tend to buy boxed because the digital edition is often more expensive.

A lot of points I have seen being raised against it are just personal preferences. No point in buying collector editions with all digital etc - if that's something you're into.

I'm trying to work out which PS5 I'd go with and I'm not sure. I don't really have anywhere to place game boxes and find they end up just sitting in a drawer in my tv unit.

Digital could be a good option for me this time.

I've got the digital edition.

Looking back at my PS4 purchases I think the only games I bought physically were Destiny 1/2 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Everything else I've picked up at some point during a PSN sale. I haven't bought a game at launch since Destiny 2 so the fact that new releases are usually around £10 cheaper physically doesn't bother me. I also hate having a load of game cases!

I know that ultimately it is cheaper to get games physically but for me it's not worth the space and time, I love being able to just buy a game digitally and download and play immediately. It also stops me from trading/selling a game for a pittance to go towards a new game, only to realise six months later that I want to replay it again - I have wasted so much money in the past rebuying games!

How are you guys watching Tokyo Game Show? On YouTube, I cannot seem to easily find any links about any coverage. It's not like the Sony events which were easy to watch.

I am trying to save up for the Xbox Series S, but due to a lack of money and all, I keep having to spend my savings. Thus far, I had a few hundred put away that I blew on other things.

PS5 Digital Edition secured!!! :bouncy::yay:

Amazon again put uo the new batch of pre-orders for standard and digital. Standard sold out in 10 minutes but I was sitting there refreshing waiting for the digital page to go live. Just randomly refreshed 5 minutes ago and saw that I could put an order in so slammed that pre-order button and checkout out in about 10 seconds as I was already logged in to Amazon from checking something I've got ordered.

Happy enough with that. Just need to organise money for closer to dispatch and now need to start stacking up top ups but I'll be joining next gen on Nov  19th, providing Amazon get it to me on this day.

Congrats :peace:

Told a mate that the PS5 is back in stock at Mediamarkt and Saturn over here in Germany. They apparently still show up as available but checking out is impossible :hmm:

Amazon.de also had new devices in stock but sold out in like 5 minutes :D

Nice one, now you can cancel your GAME preorder. Not sure if you knew, but GAME charge £10 for delivery even if you collect in store.

:p

GAME haven't put their pre-orders up yet so no need to cancel as as soon as I saw Amazon had them, I smashed the pre-order button. Surprised how smoothly I managed to get through the pre-order with how quick Argos' stick went and how quick the standard PS5s went.

Still, can actually start to get excited about next gen now that I have a console pre-ordered. After the week I've had with the Xbox pre-orders and trying to sort out what the hell Klarna were doing, I'm now all set bar the top up cards.

Eyyy DJ! Good to see you again - I still remember your Blue link at that Smash-off at Gamestation once - didn't realise it was you til we came on here later tho!

Funny enough been having the TV convo with my mate recently. I had one break recently but generally I'm still on old school standard non-smart LCD(no real 4k devices or needs atm) but I'm thinking once I have a PS5 I might start looking into new things. I really have NO idea of this whole TV market these days tho - who tend to be the trusted or respected brands these days? I used to have an affinity to Samsung but no idea if they are any good with their 4k and stuff.

Missed this so sorry for the late reply. Trusted I would say are the usual like Samsung, Sony, LG etc (but those are the standouts imo) though they tend to specialise their tv's in certain tech to differentiate themselves e.g. if you want an OLED, you gotta go LG. One thing is that I would watch and read up on this stuff because there are so many competing technologies like LED, QLED and OLED but the information between them could lead you to think they are the same (QLED and OLED) when the gulf in benefits is considerable (LED/LCD and OLED).

Personally, I go with OLED all the time. Once you have seen a proper one, you cannot go back.

I'd tried to follow it all even back when plasma was a thing too; but I just got lost. I've never been one to be big on the picture/graphics and tbh all the ms inout timeframes lags etcetc is just not me. I basicslly learnt...you want the black blacks to be blacker than black? If Samsung are still a decent top 5 contender as an average of their products I'll probably be basic enough to just stay brand loyal and jump in with them - I actually quite happen to like their TVs and interfaces as I've tended to see(tho again I'm still sitting here thinking I was super smart get a future-proofed 1080p over 720p tv! So maybe I should just got and sit down in my chair and leave all this to you young whippersnappers :p )

Just got an e-mail from ShopTo saying they won't be able to fulfill my pre-order day one. Kinda dissapointed.

I had something similar from Amazon saying they didn’t know when they would have stock. My order page still says it’s coming day one but I expect that’s just not going to update at all until they know more.

I’m really considering just cancelling both consoles to be honest. I’m not feeling super excited by either (for various reasons) and am really feeling like building a PC is a much better gaming option overall. Have a few months to decide at least.

Does that mean they aren't expecting another round of preorders?
Certainly sounds that way. I know in the past with some console launches there has only been one round of preorders (I'm looking at you, Wii). Presumably there'll be a point where Sony know realistically how many consoles they can provide by launch, and those console preorders will be filled.

Well that sucks, have they mentioned when they might be able to fulfill it by? Was always worried this might end up being the case; out of curiosity, did you register interest prior to then going up, or register interest/order it after?

This is all making me nervous about my order! But fingers crossed for us all anyways, I know it's not the end of the world of it doesn't turn up on launch day, but it would still be nice!

Out of curiosity, what's turning you off of the new consoles? I've seen you mention in the PC thread you were looking to potentially dive in, and especially if simulation games like the F1 games are more your thing, it does feel like that might be where the better experience ends up being for the foreseeable future.

Anecdotally, I was talking to someone from my work the other day about it all, and he mentioned he didn't stick a pre-order in so that they can iron out all the kinks before he picks one up. I kind of get it, but my logic for getting one at launch right now is:

a) the price isn't going down for a while, I've saved up the money for it and might as well pick one up now.

b) with COVID in play, I don't think it's insane to think that production and shipping issues could crop back up after launch.

c) i) my PS4 sounds like it wants to burn my apartment down every time it runs something too intense.

ii) I've noticed an increasing number of games I feel would benefit greatly from PS5's backwards compatibility, and I'm really looking forward to returning to some of my favourites of this gen with better performance.

d) the games. I know Miles Morales is on PS4 at launch too, but it'll undoubtedly be at its best on the PS5. And it's just an investment in the games and franchises I already love, and PlayStation Studios, which I trust to put out high quality games on a consistent basis.

However, I will admit that I'm super excited to get the PS5, but not purely because of next-gen at this point, if that makes sense? Demon's Souls looks to be the most "next-gen" game, but even that is "just" an amazing looking remake of a decade old game. It's Bluepoint, it looks fantastic...but this is kind of what I would expect from a Bluepoint remake of Demon's Souls, if that makes any sense.

Final Fantasy XVI looks visually like a PS4 game in many places (and not quite as good as VII Remake, even, though there's still time to smooth it out I'm sure!), and I think it's just that lack of games designed with next-gen front and foremost which is stunting my excitement for those possibilities right now. I think Ratched and Clank is the only game announced so far where I can say I'm excited by the possibilities and risks it might take.

That's not to say the tech side of it is the only thing I'm looking forward to (far from it, solid gameplay and a good story is still more than enough to put a smile on my face!), but it's only there where I have reservations so far going into next-gen.

Series X is quite simple, no games so why bother? With PS5 I’m not sure I really want any of the launch games, they do look great but not my usual thing. I do love the stuff Sony’s studios put out but generally I don’t play them so do I really need the PS5? Then there’s the weaker reason of the fact that I find the PS5 so ugly I just don’t want it in my house, stupid I know but when the console is going to be on display for at least the next 5 years you do have to somewhat like the way it looks.

I do love getting a launch day console, but more and more I feel like I’d be buying a PS5 just because it’s new and exciting, not because I actually want to use it.

I registered interest then pre-ordered. I few weeks later they sent me an e-mail asking me to confirm my pre-order which I did.

Then yesterday I get an e-mail saying:

We have received the allocation details from Sony and, unfortunately, we regret to inform you that we will not be able to fulfil your pre-order on day one/release date.

But we value your custom and we would like to ask you to keep your pre-order with us.

What could happen next:

  • Sony may notify us of additional stock with extra allocation for day one and you have already reserved your place in the queue;
  • Some customers may cancel their pre-orders and that may allow yours to be next in line.

Also we would like to know if you would be happy to swap your pre-order for a digital console, if they become available and as you are in the queue, you will have the priority (please let us know on our website Live chat/messenger contact channel).

We apologise for this unfortunate news.

I guess they're selling to the first guys that pre-ordered or confirmed their pre-order. I'm hoping I get it around  early January in the second shipment maybe.

My family told me that I should keep my PS5 pre-order given that my birthday is less than two weeks after the console's release.
Sooooo....looks like I'll be joining the next gen sooner than expected :D

Digital pre-orders for launch titles are going up, not directly on the PS Store but hosted on the PlayStation site (note: these are UK links):

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Demon's Souls

Destruction AllStars

Sackboy A Big Adventure

Godfall

Not sure exactly who here is going digital, but I know for sure that @Ganepark32 is, so I'll tag him :p note that as on PS4, these require immediate payment! Oh and for anyone in the US, just change the 'en-gb' part of the URL to 'en-us'  and @drahkon no idea if you're going digital with some of these, but just in case, I think you would just need to change 'en-gb' to 'de-de'.

Thanks for that, the page for Sackboy answers the question I had which is that there is a free upgrade though I guess the price will be the same for both the PS4 and PS5 versions digitally do it doesn't make much if a difference in the end for saving a couple of quid.

I'd seen Miles Morales is up to pre-order on the PS Store already for the PS4 so with that being £49.99 and giving a free upgrade to the PS5 version, I'll probably grab that as it'll end up cheaper going down the route.

Apart from that, I'm not overly fussed for the rest. I may try Demon Souls at some point but I'm not the biggest fan of the Souls games so its not top of my list.

Out of the gate, I've decided I'll be going with Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077 (I know its a backwards compat title but it launching on the same day as the PS5 and me wanting to play it on hardward that isn't going to melt makes it an unofficial launch title for me) and Miles Morales. That's probably it for bigger games at launch, just waiting to see what the launch lineup is like for indies and to see whether The Pathless will make it for launch (again, its cross gen but its a game I've been looking forward to since it was announced). Curious if there will be any surprises indie wise for launch, suppose we'll have to wait a couple more weeks before we know for sure what'll make it there for launch indie wise but I'd love for something huge, like hypothetically Hollow Knight Silksong (I've brought this up before but you can guarantee that Sony and Shuhei Yoshida will have talked to Team Cherry about bringing that game to PS5 as soon as possible and if it is to see a release this year, that would be a huge get. The game won't make this year but that'd be an awesome heavy hitter out the game indie wise).

Down the line, looking to pick up Immortals Fenyx Rising, depending on reviews, and then Hitman 3 in January but all that and being able to replay God of War thanks to the PS Plus Collection should keep me going through the new year.

Sorry to hear this. Eurogamer have an article about the ShopTo preorder situation. The ShopTo spokesperson told Eurogamer that this issue was down to the customer not clicking to convert their interest into a preorder in time. Seems as though ShopTo are not being honest and suggesting it was down to the customer being slow rather than the issue being caused by them releasing too many preorder slots (and later finding out they didn't have a big enough allocation).

Either they had too many pre-order slots or their "interest-to-pre-order" system is broken and doesn't check stock at any point during the process of ordering.

Both of these are entirely ShopTo's fault.
