ipaul Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 This is everything that is right about the 80's: On that subject: Raw, propulsive and funky as fuck. I love Talking Heads.
The Bard Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) Speaking of raw propulsion, mixed with some genuine psychosis; Edited November 27, 2011 by The Bard
EddieColeslaw Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Mainly because it's on the soundtrack of My Blueberry Nights. I used to think that her music was boring, but I'm really feeling the depth of her voice right now.
Goafer Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Thought I'd give this another listen for old times sake. Never really knew what the lyrics were, but turns out I rather like them.
Paj! Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Mainly because it's on the soundtrack of My Blueberry Nights. I used to think that her music was boring, but I'm really feeling the depth of her voice right now. Cat Power is amazing, but for me, The Greatest is her least interesting/powerful album. The intentionally smooth/jazzy/whatever the term is production style is NICE but blankets the power her music can have. Albums like Moon Pix, You Are Free, The Covers Record, What Would The Community Think etc all blow me sideways.

Yeah, I think that element might be what led me to think that she was "boring" at first. But then, the only other song I know apart from the two on the soundtrack is Sea of Love, so thanks very much for the share Must listen to her actual albums! When I saw "Metal Heart", I thought it was a cover of the Garbage song...
chairdriver Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Been listening to a few songs: Slow ~ Kylie Minogue. Love the video. There's a strange quality to it, which makes it feel really unique. I still find myself replaying this song all the time. Carry ~ Tori Amos **hushed voice** Breathe Me ~ Sia.
Fierce_LiNk Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 My friend posted on facebook that he was listening to Little Lion Man. I thought "woooohooo"...until I saw it was a cover by a band called Tonight Alive. Fucking horrible. It's worth listening to, just to see how covers can be done terribly wrong. I think I'm going to be sick.
Aneres11 Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 I adore her. And this song fits my mood so well at the moment.
Paj! Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 [Preface] First of all, watch this: What perfection. A guitar, a voice that seems to come from nowhere - good lord. Such a 'simple' little song too. It's all so effortless and unpretentious. [/Preface] I'm in a Joni Mitchell phase. Loved Blue for years and had her 'Hits' albums so know all her famousies, but it's taken me a long time to get into Hejira truly. I'm planning on getting one of her compilations of later/more experimental material too. This really brings the first song from Hejira to life: The 'spoken' lines are always in my head. I just say them to myself sometimes. No regrets, Coyote. And I was listening to the title track and had to like pause in the street, the lyrics are amazing. But you know I'm so glad to be on my own Still somehow the slightest touch of a stranger Can set up trembling in my bones I know - no one's going to show me everything We all come and go unknown Each so deep and superficial Between the forceps and the stone phuck I love her mouth too. So big.
Aneres11 Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Funny thing is - I HATED her voice on Xfactor. I always said coz it's such a distinct voice, she has gotta do her own stuff before I could appreciate it. And now she has - and I am certainly appreciating it! Her new album, 'Heaven' is getting rave reviews - and rightly so. It is brilliant.
MadDog Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I'm looking forward to listening to that ^^^^, really like her voice. ---------- Anything Ellie Goulding, love her album. Can't wait for her new one!
Retro_Link Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 (edited) Ellie Golding's been away too long! Guns and Horses was a personal fav of that album. Yeah I need to give Rebecca Fergusons album a listen. She's got a great voice. Personally I thought her first song was a tad weak/repetitive... but it's great she's taken the time on the album. Have to say I'm just enjoying this song atm... Such happy listening, just brings a smile to my face! Same with this song, and the video's pretty funny too. *plus random James Corden* and of course... Yeah I totally agree - her debut single wasn't amazing but it does a good job introducing the rest of it - which is all miles better. Her voice sounds phenomenal and I was never a big fan! _________________________________________________________________ In other HUGE news (for me anyway lol) Diana Vickers is back!!!! And she has treated her fans with a free download whilst we patiently wait for her second album. It's called 'Music To Make The Boys Cry' - and it's amazing. Very 80's!!
heroicjanitor Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Heard this song the other day and listened to it a lot.
chairdriver Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) I can't stop listening to live performances of Sugar by Tori Amos. Choose your pick. The first is a better performance, but worse quality. The second she looks more stunning, more like a high priestess. When it gets to the following part, it's so good. Sweet boy, when they find you out, tell me what you think they'll do? When they find out you've got a little little kid, tell me what you think they'll do? When they find you out, when they find you out When they find out YOU'RE JUST A PUSSY Yes. Edited December 12, 2011 by chairdriver

Goafer Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I want this song played at my funeral. Glorious.
Frank Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 ! ! ! This is just played by me over and over again . I could listen for eternity and. Just happen to sing the "Violently Happy!" part in my head. ALL DAY. Such a beautiful song for my favorite actress :') Becoming infatuated with Bowie recently, I find him captivating.. Sincerely the coolest song I've ever heard. It's so slick!
Ashley Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I want this song played at my funeral. Glorious. I personally prefer the Ben Lee cover because it's tonally more in line with what I'd expect a song called 'Float On' to be like. But that's just me ^_^
bob Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 (edited) I like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TDqUJdXzlQ Mainly because of the last 30 seconds or so. Edited December 14, 2011 by 130131301364
Murr Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Not a song, but lately I've been listening to the following albums a heck of a lot... Re-visiting my youth heh.
