Mr-Paul Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Only the Sun, Mirror, Star, Guardian and i to go!! Too bad they don't phone-hack (allegedly). Kurtle, you confuse me a lot. The Sun, despite being full of a lot of crap at times, is very effective at what it does/is a good tabloid/caters for the masses. Mirror is on the decline and mainly old people who read it in its heyday read it now, but its nothing offensive. The Daily Star is a comic and should be ignored. The Guardian and i/Independent I see no reason why you want to see them gone. I think you'll find lots of these revelations about the NOTW are thanks to investigations by The Guardian.
Coolness Bears Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 newspapers are lame. It's all about injecting news straight through the penis these days.
Jimbob Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Good, it was a crap paper to begin with anyway. Just need the Daily Mail to shut down now.
McPhee Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 The idea that The Guardian might be implicated in phone hacking is quite laughable. They would have to be incredibly stupid to have had any involvement in such activities given they have been running stories on such activities for 9 years now. The Daily Mail and The Sun on the other hand... I think it's just a matter of time before some wrongdoing is uncovered. The Daily Mail put more business the way of these very same private investigators than any other news outlet (and by quite some way). With The Sun, assuming such practices are indeed endemic to News International as a whole (i.e. the decisions were made above Editorial level) then it's only a matter of time before something is uncovered on them as well.
Ashley Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 In an ideal world it would be nice for all those made unemployed by this to be able to work at the Sun on Sundays. However what is more likely is they'll use this as an opportunity to not re-employ those they didn't like and some people will be so (rightfully) indignant about what happened that they wouldn't go back anyway.

Kurtle Squad Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Its largely a personal thing but as soon as someone dismisses "PC" as being "bullshit" (or similar such things) I disregard that view. It's just a go-to statement that it implies (to me) a lack of thought. Its a knee jerk reaction, often to mis/false reporting. "Oh a school won't allow their lunch staff to be called 'lunchladies'? POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD!" And your idea isn't a knee-jerk reaction with a lack of thought? Political Correctness doesn't need to "go mad", it is, and always has been an insulting term, and almost always uses inane reasoning (unless for selfish/twisted reasons). To use "PC gone mad" certainly is used with a lack of thought, especially since it implies you'd be using PC as an insult without suggesting it mad. It's probably not a good idea stereotypes/straw-men to fight against a point I've not even made. It's good to see you not (yet) fall into the typical pit of throwing words like bully and racism* like so many others seem to do *coughguardiancough* however. Actual non-stupid people use the term political correctness to save writing an entire essay every time someone whines about something. Just because some retards misuse words, it doesn't mean everyone who uses it does. Political Correctness covers a lot more than just word use of course. Is there a non-PC reason someone shouldn't be called a lunchlady? I can't honestly think of one. Please enlighten me.

It's my personal experience that the phrase "political correctness" is mostly used when it has gotten out of hand. Up until then I'd classify it as "common sense". But that's just my personal opinion.
Iun Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 I dislike political correctness. It's a dangerous line between calling a spade a spade and calling it a wood/metal-hybrid manual digging device. I was brought up in a world without too much political correctness, but a respect for different races and cultures. I used the "N" word once and my mother damn near beat me to death. Yep, she really hated nephrologists.

Fresh Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 God bless The Guardian. <3. However they sure are milking that they discovered this first. Interesting how Murdock has just killed off NotW in his own attempt to draw a line under the situation. It's about time that awful paper went. Next Target : Daily Mail. Also, Here is a nice little video of them ling their arses off. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/video/2011/jul/07/news-of-the-world-denials-video

You're not by any stretch of the imagination however there is a lot in the papers that never makes it to their web versions and vice versa. The best journalism tends to be in the papers though and is only moved to the subscription based services in iPad app's for example.
Wesley Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Why is everyone saying getting rid of News of the World was a mad decision? It's a slowly dying medium. If I was about to drop 7 billion for the future of British TV I wouldn't give a shit about a paper that is now only selling 2 and a half million every Sunday.
ipaul Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 The NOTW guy in that video is such a cunt. I honestly don't think he sees himself as having done anything wrong at all...

The worst thing is, he's nothing to do with us, hasn't worked here for 11 years, apparently was a walking joke when he did. LEAKED: Rebekah Brooks Secretly Recorded By News Of The World Staffers BBC News: Labour is calling for an immediate start to the judicial phone-hacking inquiry so evidence will not be lost when the News of the World closes. News International has said a Guardian report that millions of e-mails may have been deleted was "rubbish". Number 10 said that it was acting "as rapidly as possible and legally permissible" and that steps were being taken to appoint a judge to lead it. The Guardian Police are investigating evidence that a News International executive may have deleted millions of emails from an internal archive in an apparent attempt to obstruct Scotland Yard's inquiry into the phone-hacking scandal. The archive is believed to have reached back to January 2005, revealing daily contact between News of the World editors, reporters and outsiders, including private investigators. The messages are potentially highly valuable both for the police and for the numerous public figures who are suing News International (NI). EEVILMURRAY Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 It's weird that they don't mention Clarkson writes for The Sun also. Anyways, I'll be buying a copy tomorrow. Like with all that royal commoration day crap papers make, the last "ever" issue may be worth something someday.
Mr_Odwin Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 It's not worth filling your house with rubbish in the hope that it may be worth something someday. It very likely won't.
Dog-amoto Posted July 10, 2011 Author Posted July 10, 2011 I agree. There'll be 5 million printed and quite a lot of people will have the same idea. It's why my original Atari 2600 with wooden casing isn't worth anything.
McPhee Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 So... The Sun illegally obtained medical records on Gordon Brown's son. The Sunday Times illegally obtained his financial and property records. And NotW illegally obtained the Royal 'Green Book', as well as (rumoured) hacking the voicemails of 9/11 victims. If this week carries on like this then the walls are going to start falling. The possibility that the rot is present in not just The Sun, but also The Times is going to irreversibly damage News International. If they've been at the voicemail inboxes of 9/11 victims then expect the public uproar to spread stateside. It's a weird feeling thinking that by the time 2012 comes around we might have an unrecognisable media, one that is considerably less powerful that before.
EEVILMURRAY Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 http://uk.news.yahoo.com/plan-emerges-to-re-launch-news-of-the-world.html I'm shocked... Well... not really. It was obvious it was going to come back in a new form with the same staff.
