Blade Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 Ive got the urge to play through this again now
nekunando Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I wanted to play Super Mario World a couple of weeks ago but when I slipped it into the SNES, all 3 save files were sitting fully complete and I didn't have the heart to delete one of them, nor did I want to run through the levels in their 'altered' state With that in mind, I think I might download it on the Wii VC, along with Super Metroid, and enjoy this gem all over again
Blade Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 With that in mind, I think I might download it on the Wii VC, along with Super Metroid, and enjoy this gem all over again Ive actually never played Super Metroid. I think it will have to be downloaded after payday.
Hero-of-Time Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I can't count the amount of times I've ploughed through this game and still find myself smiling like a moron every time I successfully fly underneath Cheese Bridge Haha. I'm exactly the same. There is a strange sense of achievement every time you do it.
Fierce_LiNk Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Ive actually never played Super Metroid. I think it will have to be downloaded after payday. Get it. You won't regret it. They just don't make videogames like that one anymore. From what I remember, you get told nothing in the game. you don't get told to go here, you don't get told to collect this from there. You don't get told what this weapon does. But, nevertheless, you find out yourself. It's the complete opposite of spoon-feeding. You learn how to crawl, walk, sprint and then fly yourself, completely unaided. I wish we could get another game like it. I'd pay double the price for one on the 3DS right now, without a second's thought.
nekunando Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I downloaded this today since I had a huge urge to play it again and no matter how much I may enjoy New Super Mario Bros U, this is just on a completely different planet. AMAZING game

I know it's not Metroid, but Paper Mario Sticker Star is very similar to Super Metroid in that it is completely bereft of handholding and hints...
flameboy Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I know it's not Metroid, but Paper Mario Sticker Star is very similar to Super Metroid in that it is completely bereft of handholding and hints... REALLY? I would not have expected that I am very surprised to say the least. Metroid and Super Metroid both very much of this ilk.
Dcubed Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 REALLY? I would not have expected that I am very surprised to say the least. Metroid and Super Metroid both very much of this ilk. Yup! It follows the traditional Paper Mario 64 style of gameplay (with turn based battles and diorama style environments), but the world is level based, the RPG elements have been removed entirely and the non battle gameplay is focused very much on adventure game style puzzles. There are pretty much no hints given at all and the puzzles can get pretty obtuse! There are even quite a few Metroid esc elements of backtracking involved too (where you have to return to past places with stickers that you never had before) Give it a look. I reckon you'd like it
Rummy Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Yeah, it's actually one of the criticisms being made of the game . People want more challenge, then don't like it, pah! Quite enjoying SS though, and to date not found myself massively stuck(plus worse comes to worse just quick peek a guide ). As for this, it truly is quite a game. I've done the one sitting/afternoon complete a couple times, but I still love it. As mentioned, the music, and the general vibrancy of the game, are just lovely! The humour in the castle scenes(never really see that mentioned actually), I did used to look forward as a kid to the next one, see what happened next! Also the fact that it did so in whatever state you were currently in, something about small mario jumping at a castle made me smile. (would you believe I first played a lot of this on a small black and white tv?? The day we found out about the different colour yoshis, oh!)
nekunando Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I just wanted to say that I recently joined the 'I played Super Mario World again and it's still brilliant' club.. Tubular managed to give me more problems than I remember experiencing last time, though..
Ville Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 When I got this with my SNES in the 90's, it was just friggin' magical. All the colours, weird worlds, secrets here and there...man, what an awesome launch game.

Tubular managed to give me more problems than I remember experiencing last time, though.. Haha, I always remember that one. I actually started playing this after Retro's recent post about how awesome it is, though I haven't finished it off yet. I forget just how bright and colourful(not just visually) it is until I play!
Ike Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Spent most of today finishing off the remaining exits and the result: First time I've 100% completed it even though I owned it on various formats. My previous record was reaching Bowser but never finishing it on the GBA version. Heard Tubular was pretty tough but I don't know what the fuss was about. Never worked out what the different coloured Yoshi do, didn't even know they were in the game. Bit confused why my save select screen is different to everyone else's (mine has a star and the text is yellow, everyone else's has no star and is blue). I played mine on the Wii U if it's a region difference.

Blade Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 Im playing through it in bits at the minute on the Wii U. It is a joy to play and has stood the test of time.
Jimbob Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 It's on my Wii still, shall be one of the first titles i shall play after the transfer to Wii-U tomorrow. A great game to say the least, it is easily one of the best, if not THE best Mario game.
Aneres11 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Is this on Wii U VC? Is it a good port? Control well with the game pad?! Really got me in the mood to play!
Serebii Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Is this on Wii U VC? Is it a good port? Control well with the game pad?! Really got me in the mood to play! Yep, yep and yep
Rummy Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 If you had this on Wii, what's the Wii U upgrade price? Got like 500 or 1000 wii points that transferred to my wii u - can i buy this on the wii section, then upgrade/pay reduced on the wii u one?

I think it's only if it was existing on the Wii beforehand, i don't think it will work this way around.
drahkon Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Ah, Super Mario World. The game that got me into gaming. First played it when I was 5 or 6 years old. My parents got us a SNES and my Dad and me did some serious gaming sessions. Good times. I bought it on the Wii VC as soon as it was released, but i recently got a SNES from ebay and I had to buy the game, too. I finish it at least once or twice a year. It is a masterpiece. And I still cannot understand why on earth Nintendo doesn't make another game like it.
nekunando Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 And I still cannot understand why on earth Nintendo doesn't make another game like it. I predict a 'New Super Mario World' to appear on Nintendo's next home console in 2015 ..and it won't be anywhere near as good as this classic!

I thought we'd be fine to buy things using our remaining points in Wii Mode and then 'upgrade' to a Wii U version for a reduced price.

You need to buy the upgrade on the WiiU menu's, the Wii menu you can continue to use the Wii points. I checked last night after the upgrade. As far as i know, if the content was on the Wii before the transfer, then it's applicable for the upgrade.
